Maybe Crank if you feel like exposing her to something that's both utterly reprehensible and batshit insane.

Hahaha good call, not sure she would really appreciate that one, no matter how stupidly hilarious it is... :D

Second Gattaca, and nominate Dark City. Mind-bending suspense sci-fi thriller, with the best ending of any cult movie with the possible exception of Invasion of the Bodysnatchers (which I also nominate, if you've both not seen it already).
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

So, it looks like you have six slots after Serenity, Star Trek, District 9, and the Original.

Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind
Alien
Moon
Sunshine
Terminator
Primer

Or substitute The Matrix for any of them.

This is a great list.

I had the same situation with my fiancee; I had to show her a number of classic movies and sci-fi gems (including The Matrix, Alien, Sunshine, etc.)

I don't think i have much to add to the list except to say Primer is my favorite movie ever, please watch it. However, I guess I'll just reiterate the ones I would choose.

The Matrix
Alien
Sunshine
Primer
Dark City
Equilibrium
Brazil
Star Wars
Gattaca
2001: A Space Odyssey
The Princess Bride
We sail in and out of Time, then back again. There is only one ship, the captain says. All the ships we hail between the galaxies or suns are this ship.
