set of actions is Guard-find-recruit-heal--kill-posess.

general set up:
Scum:

Eldar
2 Harlequins – Jesters, paired, can’t vote self, have off-thread communication and 1 Day/Night kill each
Share 1 NK BP, if both are targeted same night whom ever was targeted later in the night, dies.
If recruited, die, counts as lynch
If possessed, die after third post in a new alt, counts as lynch.
Once both are lynched, pick one living player to become Avatar—gains a night kill power that bypasses BP, plus 2 Night kill BP and 1 lynch BP
Avatar can’t be recruited

Tyranid:
Gene stealer: can recruit or kill. Has 3 kills (these can be either used himself or assigned to his recruits) and unlimited number of recruits.
1-time ability: recruit two a night (must indicate when he uses it)
Has one lynch BP, bypasses the guard on night 1. (This will not be revealed on thread)
If he has 3+ people on his faction, gains an extra kill.

The recruiting power is passed down after death—chooses who becomes new recruiter.
New recruiter gets ALL the powers of the original gene stealer, since he becomes his clone. Old recruits are NOT told who the new leader is. New recruits will be notified who recruited them.
Second recruiter does NOT get the 2 recruits a night, and he has 2 kills to assign.
Third recruiter does NOT bypass the guard, and has 1 kill to use or assign.

Chaos:
2 paired FMs, can communicate off-thread at all times.
Have 1 recruit BP between them and 1 shared NK BP.

Cannot both shift same night.

If one of the FMs shifts 3 times, become Daemon prince (can’t shift, 1 lynch BP, 2 kills per night, can’t be recruited

Necron:
1 Predator-type role.
2 lynch BPs, 2 NK BPs,
Cannot be possessed or recruited, ever
Can kill at night.
If he withholds a kill one night, night 2 kill bypasses BP
If he withholds a kill for two nights, night 3 kill bypasses guard.
When spending an NK BP, is notified of who targeted him.

After 5 kills, becomes Incarnation of C’tan—can kill at night and during the day.

Innos:
Librarian: provides faction-specific CF, as long as he is alive.
replaced extra vote to lynch with a lynch BP
Has 1 NK BP

Psycker: Finder. Finds xenos or human, if Librarian lives, gets faction CF too.

Repressed psycker: same as regular, but loses power once he reveals finder on thread.

Comissar: Daykill, 1 time, headshot, no BP saves.

Ogryn: dumb guard- can vote, but must indicate if he wants his vote to count. If alt name is misspelled, vote “doesn’t count”, and Ogryn can guard at night.
Only applies if Ogryn is on the train that results in a lynch.
Ogryn has an NK BP.

Medic: has 1 heal per night.

Secret guard: same as repressed psycker, but guarding.

Defective Terminator: BP-vig

Unstable Devastator: ninja. Before exploding, has 1 NK per night, once he reveals that he can kill, has to use ninja power same day, or loses all powers. If reveals at night, loses all abilities.
Explosion kills him, and one person of his choice.
Explosion is warp-aspected—BPs do not save from it.
1 lynch/NK BP

Tac squad: 2 lynch/NK BPs between 3 marines, do not know each other, are NOT notified when BPs are spent.

All humans know one of the Librarian, Comissar, or Psycker.

Objectives:

Humans: wipe out all xenos

Tyranids: achieve majority.

Eldar: make it to the last 5 with a living harlequin OR be the last one standing

Chaos: perform 5 posessions OR be the last ones standing.

Necrons: kill everyone.

Rules to prevent reveal fests:

Some roles lose power after revealing.
If squad leader is revealed by his squad, he is modkilled.

Balance:
Eldar: are jesters with a BP. Avatar is a predator that can kill anyone.
Jesters can vote each other, but not self-vote.
Have many opportunities for an avatar triggering-death, except for the NK.

Tyranids: can recruit anyone, except for the Necron, and the FMs—for an 18-player game, 14/17 players.

Recruit is the first action after guard, recruiter inherits all powers, including the BP and a kill.

Chaos—FMs have off-thread comms, can co-ordinate.

Only the Necron, and the Avatar are possession proof. In a 18-player game—15/17 possible targets.

Jump is last action—prevents death kills.

Necron—he’s the predator, and his upgrade gives him 2 kills/cycle.

Town:
Has 2 finders, 2 guards, a healer, 5 BPs (to counter 1-shot kills), and a town killer.
Squad-based grouping allows for coordination, but will become less effective once deaths start.

When all 3 squad leaders die, all remaining humans get a 1-time vig. These vigs are special, as each one removes a BP from one of the predator players.

Special measures to prevent reveal fests: many roles (including the town predator) lose powers upon revealing.

Night 1—possible 4 NK attempts (5 if the Tyranid decides not to recruit), countered by 5 town BPs, Eldar BP, Chaos BP and Necron BP—makes NKs not very effective.

Town CF and town main finder both have a group that’ll keep them alive longer.

6 scum, 1librarian, 1 comissar, 3 tac marines, 2 guards, 1 healer, 2 finders, 1 predator, 1 bp vig=12-person town. Ratio is 2:1, which is steep, but a lot of conflicting scum factions to balance out. If more townies (21), makes ratio 2.5:1.

so, re: our last conversation about Eldar. Are we keeping the victory condition the same, or do you think some more fine-tuning is in order?

I've also removed all voting mechanics, except for the ogryn.

this one's gonna be a monster, really looking forward to the chaos it might cause to their little brains....

I wouldn't go for last minute changes, just keep everything as it is now. Trying to tweak things will create a huge chaos for both them and us, not worth it, the game looks good :)

wow, that took longer than expected... all righty
Sukul Ankhadu
Eldar Harlequin
You are one of the harlequins sent by the Eldest to secure the acess to the Webway. to do so, you must last long enough to awaken the vengeful spirit of Khaine to wipe out all interlopers.
you and your partner Karatallid are Jesters. You can talk off-thread at any time, make sure to cc your convo to Path-shaper for spoilerific goodness.
your job is to either
a) make sure one of you is in the last 5 people alive
or
b )to get both of yourselves lynched.

should you sucessfully pull that off, you will then be able to choose 5 player names, and one of them will become the avatar of Khaine, to rain death upon all your enemies.
to help you in this, you are able to perform one kill, either during the day, or night.
between the two of you, you also have 1 Bullet Proof against a night kill.

between the two of you, you also have 1 Bullet Proof against a night kill.

Chaos Sorcerer (Ampelas)
You are one of the few Thousand Sons Chaos Space Marines that have made it to the surface of Olympia 7.
Your task is to perform 5 demonic posession rituals, to open a rift in the Warp, so that Chaos can engulf this world, and your master Tzeench wold get access to the fabled Eldar Webway.
you know that Tellan is your comrade, and you can talk to him at any time off-thread. make sure to cc your conversation to Path-shaper for spoilers.
You are both Faceless Men (FMs).
in order to posess somebody, you must first prepare for a posession by sending the mod a name of a player. the following night you will be able to attempt a posession. if sucessful, you will be given the password for that player's alt and you will thenpost from that alt. your own alt will be declared dead and CF with the allegiance of your target.
Both of you can prepare targets on the same night, but only one of you can attempt a posession every night.
you will win after 5 successful posessions.
You also have one shared recruitment protection, and one shared BulletProof against Night Kill

Tyranid Genestealer Galayn Lord
You are the last survivor of the Genestealer cult that devastated Orion 4. originally you were a marine in the Raen Guard Chapter, but you got posessed and allowed the parssite to sneak onto the refugee barge.
Now you are eager to restore the Tyranid strength, to attract the Hive Fleet and rejoin the Great Many.
You are a cult leader. your goal is to recruit as many people as you can.
You will win when Tyranids make up a majority of 50%+1 of the living players
You have 1 BulletProof protection against lynches
you also have the ability to attempt to recruit 2 people on night 1, whilst bypassing any guard actions that may target you that night. this is a one-shot, so if you decide to use a kill on night 1 instead, it will be lost, permanently.
To attempt to recruit someone, send their name to the mods. you will be notified if your attempt was sucessful or not.
you also have the ability to attempt 3 kills, to be used at night. you may assign any number of these kills to your disciples, if you want.

Necron Lord Korvalain
You are the Necron who was awakened by these stupjd living miners.
you want to kill everyone. you will win when you are the last one standing.
You are a goddamned Predator of this game.
you have 2 BulletProof protections against Lynches and 2 Bulletproofs against Night Kills
you can kill once a night.
if you choose to withhold a kill for a night, the next kill you use will bypass any BP your target may have.
if you decide to withhold a kill for 2 nights, your subsequent action will bypass any guard action that may have been targetting you.
you are immune to all attempts of posession or recruitment.
if somebody targets you for a kill, but does not kill you, you will be notified who it was.
Have Fun!

i'll do town in a separate post once I do the squad draws.

here is the draw
I used the signup order for player names, random pick of alts and roles, then did human squads squads were random, except for squad leaders--had to make sure they weren't in same squad, :D

PB barghast Defective Terminator 3
Silencer Kalse Librarian 1
Gavin Galayn Lord Tyranid
Bubba Tellan Chaos
Stalker Sukul Ankhadu Eldar
Kurt Alkend Medic 1
Roldom Korvalain Necron
Gothos Meanas Tac 1
Alt Ampelas Chaos
DiBs D'riss Ogryn 3
HQMB Eloth Unstable Devastator 2
Vengeance Liosan Hoarder 2
Bent Olar Ethil Comissar 2
dkt Tulas Shorn Psycker 3
Gwynn Rashan Tac 1
The Dude Osseric Repressed Psycker 3
Shin Silanah Tac 2
Giles Karatallid Eldar

Initial thoughts:
Gavin is cult leader (again). Just like the asylum game. hopefully he won't hate me for this, this should be (slightly) better balanced for him.
Ironically enough, Silencer landed one of the few roles that can't kill. moreover he'll have to stay alive. on the bright side, he has a medic in his squad.
The juiciest role went to the newbie, Roldom. it should hopefully allow him to relax and have some fun.
Dibs gets to be Ogryn, this may be priceless.

our Eldar team is Stalker and Giles.
the Chaos are alt and Bubba. both of these should be strong.
Gothos, our other newb got as close to RI as I could make in this game.
PB is BP vig... he'll have to make some active plays to get the killers' attention.

overall this should be pretty good, I think., :)

grr, why won't you let me have spaces in my post? silly forum...

anyhow, role PMs continued....

Librarian (town) (Kalse)
You are the Chapter Librarian of the Raven Guard Space Marines. you and your ragtag squad of marines and guardsmen were some of the few that managed to get to the escape pods and land on Olympia 7.
As the most learned Human around, you are the Coroner.
As long as you are alive, the CF will indicate not only whether the dead was a human or Xeno, but also what kind of xeno he was.
You also have 1 lynch BP and 1 NK BP
You are also a squad leader, but you can't recognise which one of these marines was originally in your squad.
you may NOT reveal that you are squad leader at any time.

Defective Terminator (town) Barghast
You are the last survivor of the Raven Guard's 5th company Terminators squad. the crash has damaged your systems, and your power armour is currently in overdrive, giving you a 1 shot BP against Night Kills.
Should it short-circuit, for whatever reason, you have 1 more round in that heavy meltagun of yours..
in plainspeak, you are a BP-vig, you'll get to kill after your armour goes poof
Your squad leader is Tulas Shorn
you may NOT, under any circumstances reveal the identity of your squad leader

Medic (town) Alkend
You are the Apocathery of the 4th company of the Raven Guard Space Marines.
every night, you may choose one player to heal. to do so, PM his name to the mods.
your squad leader is Kalse
you may NOT, under any circumstances reveal the identity of your squad leader

Tactical squad Marine (town) Meanas
You are a simple Space marine from the 4th tactical squad, 3rd company, Raven Guard Chapter.
last you checked, right before you got shoved into the pod, 2 of your squadmates also made it out. unfortunately, this place is really messing with your communications interface.
between you and your 2 surviving squadmates (note: they may be in a different survivor group), you share 2 Bullet Proofs against Night Kills. since the interface is REALLY fried, you will not be told when they are used up.
your current squad leader (the one who led you to the city) is Kalse
you may NOT, under any circumstances reveal the identity of your squad leader

Tactical squad Marine (town) Rashan

Tactical squad Marine (town)Silanah
You are a simple Space marine from the 4th tactical squad, 3rd company, Raven Guard Chapter.
last you checked, right before you got shoved into the pod, 2 of your squadmates also made it out. unfortunately, this place is really messing with your communications interface.
between you and your 2 surviving squadmates (note: they may be in a different survivor group), you share 2 Bullet Proofs against Night Kills. since the interface is REALLY fried, you will not be told when they are used up.
your current squad leader (the one who led you to the city) is Olar Ethil
you may NOT, under any circumstances reveal the identity of your squad leader

Ogryn (town)D'riss
you are an ogryn, a genetically modified subspecies of the human race, designed to give Imperial guard some extra stamina.
You are incredibly strong, and each night you can choose a player to restrain, i.e, you are a guard
However, since your designers sacrificed a lot of your brain for brawn, there is a caveat: you may only use your guard power if you did not participate in a lynch the previous day (you can't multi-task well)
due to your simplicity, you are also THE only person who is allowed to violate the rule about reveals. i.e., you can BS about anything you want.
only exception to this being, you may NOT, under any circumstances reveal the identity of your squad leader. who is Tulas Shorn, btw.
enjoy!

Unstable Devastator (town)Eloth
you are the last survivor of the Devastator squad, 4th company of the Raven Guard Chapter Space Marines.
You saw your entire squad get torn to pieces by a Tyranid Lictor on Orion IV, and, frankly, it left you somewhat... unstable.
seeing as your power armour is still intact, you get a 1-shot BP. it can be used either for lynch or NK.
you also get to pick one person a night to kill with your NK
should you reveal your ability to kill on thread, you will have untill the end of that day to activate a strange Chaos artifact you've picked up, before you become sedated an lose all your powers (both passive and active)
this device gives you the ability to be a ninja--i.e, at any point during the day you may type in:

I GO TO JOIN MY COMRADES, AND YOU, xxxxxxxxxxx ARE COMING WITH ME! FOR THE EMPEROR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

replacing xxxxxxxxx with a name of a player of your choice. you and said player will then be immidiately killed in a warp-aspected explosion that bypasses any BPs your target may have had.
note: we will count the number of exclamation marks.
your squad leader is Olar Ethil
You may NOT reveal the identity of your squad leader at any time.

Have fun!

Hoarder (town) Liosan
you used to be just a simple Assault Marine in the 3rd company Raven Guard Chapter of Space Marines. you still are, in fact.
but, prior to abandoning the refugee ships in orbit of Olympia 7, you have raided the storage chambers, grabbing whatever you thought might be valuable. the only thing you've manged to grab that might actually be useful was a packet of sedatives. you may use this once a night to knock out a player of your choice (i.e, you are a guard)
SHould you reveal this information to others, there will be questions of where the sedatives came from, and they will surely be confiscated. i.e, if you reveal, your power is gone.
your squad leader is Olar Ethil
You may NOT reveal the identity of your squad leader at any time.

Comissar(town)Olar Ethil
You are the ill-fated Commissar Flemming, mentioned in the opening scene
your force was nearly anhihilated by whater those idiot woke up over at Thermopiles Gorge, but luckily you've manged to stumble onto a group of Spoace Marines and Imperial Guardsmen survivors of Orion IV, who were supposed to be coming over as reinforcements. Since no commmanding officer was present, you've taken it among yourself to bring them back to the city.
you are one of the squad leaders. unfortunately, you can no longer tell which ones of these men were part of your squad.
you are fairly pwerless among whatever's been gathered here, but you still have your commanding presence, and you faith in the Emperor s strong.
once, during the day, you may execute one person whose faith you find lacking. your aim is still true, so the shot will bypass whatever BPs the target may have, going straight for the medulla Oblongata, or somehting equally vital that these Xenos have in their heads.
naturally, you may not reveal your name, but feel free to reveal any combination of the standard mafia powers.

Psycker (town) Tulas Shorn
You were a lowly psycker 14y085u2-17 back on Orion IV.
now, however, you find yourself the ranking officer for the bunch of Space Marines and Guardsmen, who have followed you from the refugee ship. Sadly, the Warp presence here is too strong--you cannot remeber who were among those who followed you here.
Once a night, you may use the Emperor's gift to discover the innermost thoughts of one other playe,r this will reveal to you the identity of the player.
you are a squad leader, but you may NOT reveal this fact on thread at any time.

Repressed Psycker (town) Osseric
TO all outward appearances, ypou have always been just another Guardsman, conscripted on Orion IV, seeing your comrades die by the score in the jaws of the Tyranids.
what no one knows is that you have great potential to be a psycker, and you have managed to conceal this talent from the Inquisition for a long, long, time.
it is here, at your disposal right now, however. every night, you may use your frobidden power to find the allegiance of one other player.
take heed, however, for should you reveal your potential, renegade psyckers are never popular, and you are sure to be watched. in other words, if you reveal, you wil lose your power, so choose wisely.
your squad leader is Tulas Shorn
You may NOT reveal the identity of your squad leader at any time.

Sweet, thanks Ment. I can only assume the night actions will be flowing thick and fast if I have dual bulletproofs. Human...tricky win condition - and claiming town isn't going to be much of a help with the amount of enemy factions around. Total elimination makes me suspect that we are role-heavy, and outnumber the shit out of the xenos/heretics. :) (At least to start, ofc) Coroner...interesting role. No revealing that until I'm L-1, for sure...and on my second lynch. XD Alright...squad leader. I can only assume that will have some relevance later in the game (unless that is what is granting me the BP's). I love W40k, if only for the fact that it is one of those settings in which Librarians, Priests and Engineers can be the most badass of baddasses! By the power of the Golden Throne, the Heretics shall be put down! Victory or Death!:D

glad you like it.

Hehe. Hoping people will know me on my team. Could come back to haunt me later in the game when folks are in the cult, though...

picking up both the good and the bad about his role.

PB is kinda on the ball:

Cool, I like this role. I always find myself getting picked on for being too clever for my own good.

Interesting that I (we?) get to know Tulas Shorn is the squad leader. Probably not a good idea to signal him...

What is the "Webway?" I don't really know WH40K.

Eldar look interesting, 3 people, maybe 4? And they have the luxury of getting lynched to win. In a way, they are the best NKs for the beginning of the game.

Chaos appear to be a cult.

Tyranids are a mystery... the hive beacon business sounds Cultish, but I doubt it is... probably flavor text. Generic scum?

Necrons look like a tiny faction, 2 players likely. Typical killing faction.

Sweet, seems fairly straightforward. Never been a FM, not sure how well I'm going to do, there seem to be a bunch of people that can pick me out fairly quickly.

alt brings up a good point:

That helps, I assume you will be enforcing alts in spoilers? If you are not changing passwords please make sure you confirm myself and Tellan are in our new alts before you give our old alts spoiler access, I auto-login and would hate to accidentallyspoiler myself.

Am I correct that the first time we can switch alts is night 2?

yes, if night preparation is sucessfull, one of you will be able to jump night 2.

we'll have to make sure to do that.
