Sorry you didn't dig it Apt.

And yeah, if you didn't care for MAP OF BONES, you likely won't dig the others either.

Though the third book DOES concern Nazi's, WWII supernatural stuff, and a fabled device called Die Glocke

But nevermind eh?

:p

Also, more Kat.

Damn it, my only weakness! I love supernatural/superscience nazi stores!

Okay three questions.

One, is the third book yet another book where they are cut off from command and so they can't rely on support from the US?

Two, does the series return to the mystery of the m-state gold/wise men from book 2 later on?

Three, is there yet another fling between an operative and some headstrong but capable woman, where they are disgustingly attracted to each other to such an extent that they can't stop monologuing about how soft the other parts lips look and how nice it felt to hold his/her hand?

As far as I know, because of the covert nature of their Ops and Section of the Govt they belong to...they are NEVER assisted by any military...but I can't recall if anyone but Painter is cut off totally. But Sigma HQ is online and available for information and other support I THINK in all the books in some way. So they have help, but not military or navy seal help.

I don't actually know the answer to that. I don't think so though.

EDIT: Involvement of The Guild is series-wide, so I expect stuff from older books like this to pop up down the road when things get more blown open about the enemy.

The answer to this is two-fold:

1. Painter and a character eventually get together, no fuss, no muss. And Kat and Monk are never beat-around-the-bush about their relationship. Gray is the one I assume you are talking about... DOES have a relationship with someone down the line, and it's more focused than Rachel Verona and makes more sense...but...

2. Gray and said character beat around the bush about their poorly disguised attraction for books and books. It's annoying only in the fact that you know they will end up together and they need to just fucking get to it like Painter and _____, and Monk and Kat do.

So yeah, it's still annoying but it's more focused annoying, and no one else in the stories suffer from such nonsense.

Also, you've not met Kowalski yet. :p

Eh, the nazi story basically forces my hand so I'll have to read it eventually, but the Sigma series has moved way down on my list of books to read for the foreseeable future.

Fundamentally all i wanted was more Kat stabbing people in the face. The series took a slide for me when this stopped happening.

Still in the TRPFHAB, but it slid down a bit after i binged and wasn't impressed with FATHOM or JUDAS.

SANDSTORM has some cool moments. Mostly at the beginning and at the end....but it's not as good (I think) as MAP OF BONES which was solid all the way through.

That said, there are a few things that happen in SANDSTORM that would help you flesh out people going fwd (Painter and such)...BUT I should point out that I read MAP OF BONES first and had no trouble setting things straight...and didn't read SANDSTORM till I was about 5 or 6 books deep into the series. And in hindsight I feel it's unneeded.

Wish I'd read this a couple of days ago, not that it's likely to deter me. I've been searching for edge-of-seat action/adventure/thriller books and had posed the question on another forum I visit and had loads of suggestions thrown at me, though quite familiar ones: Baldacci, Deaver, Brown, Barclay, Bagley, MacLean, Deighton etc. I tried Vince Flynn and wasn't convinced, and also I Am Pilgrim, but it wasn't doing it for me. I was looking for something akin to Patrick Lee's stuff, and I vaguely remembered you mentioning Rollins in the past, so I downloaded a sample of Sandstorm, read it and immediately bought the book so I could continue reading. I'm only about 20% in so far but I'm thoroughly enjoying it although, from what you're saying I'm guessing it doesn't maintain the momentum all the way through. Having said that, if it's one of the lesser entries then I'm looking forward to more.

I should always know to check on here first, cos I've had so many good recommendations from you guys over the past few years. Cheers :p

If you are 20% in and enjoying SANDSTORM, then you'll like enjoy it all the way through...but the main Sigma team characters from the rest of the books don't really feature. Only Painter does as far as I remember. That said, the tone is set in that one for the rest. You've got lots of Sigma book ahead of you to fill the Adventure-Science-thriller category with Rollins, whom I've met and was a very cool guy!

I finished it yesterday. I enjoyed it overall but I thought it was a bit too long and the last few action scenes weren't really as exciting as I was hoping. Plus it was missing a bit of humour, which I felt it needed to bring the characters alive. I didn't really care about them, which was a shame cos I thought I was going to like a few of them in the early stages.

All that said, I did enjoy it - just not quite as much as I thought I was going to at the start. I'll definitely be reading Map of Bones, at least.

So, the news is still fresh, but Lionsgate is making a movie for MAP OF BONES!

I'm going to go and get ahead of myself by casting the mains below.

Painter Crowe (Adam Beach)

Kat Bryant (Emily Blunt)

Monk Kokkalis (Vin Diesel) (sidebar: Monk would be the hardest to cast I think, he's got a very specific and exacting description)

Gray Pierce (Chris Evans)

Rachel Verona (Alessandra Mastronardi) (sidebar: If it was 20 years ago, I'd be saying Monica Bellucci...but since Gray and Rachel are of an age and are around 30ish, she's too old for that particular role now)

Vigor Verona (Roberto Begnini) (sidebar: I know it's a weird choice, but Begnini can bring the verve and wryness of Vigor to life)

Seichan (Jaymee Ong) (sidebar: it bugs me that whenever a Eurasian character is cast people always just say Maggie Q or Dichen Lachman...there are plenty of Eurasian actresses to choose from people! Maggie Q and Dichen Lachman aren't the only ones.)

Kowalski (The Rock...I'm sorry, I just can't picture anyone but the Rock in this role)

The others aren't in MAP, like Lisa or Tucker and Kane ect.

Fail because no Kat. :p And no, I dont care that she isnt in the book....

Dichen Lachman mostly does tv but she would suit the Seichen part.

Begnini... does he even still act?

Chris Evans is too young and pretty for Gray. Sullivan Stapleton would utterly nail that part.

What? I put a Kat actress choice in, and she IS in the book, and she's super stabby in that one too.

Whoops, sorry, didn't see that.... bad phone reading bad.

Emily Blunt... could work. She can do badass and it can't be obvious because when she goes from scientist to facestabby it's so abrupt its glorious. Every time.
