The creator stated that the map is basically just the railroad going in a straight line. The map is about 55mb big. It takes about 30 minutes to travel the whole distance at normal speed.

By the way GP I had a look at your tempel a couple of pages back I like the look of it. If I had to make some suggestions, it would be to go bigger and more detailed in every regard. Deeper into the earth, even bigger rooms, use more variation in the blocks. Make patterns in the floor, in the walls, etc.

Oh thanks! Yeah, i agree with that - after I posted those pics I dug a concentric circle two blocks from the edge of the room, filled it with lava and re-floored the channel with glass so you can see into it.

At the moment I'm building a wall around my tower and lake (though I think I might re start that because I have square towers, when I think I should have round towers instead), then I'll go back to my temple. Also regarding the wall, what do you reckon is the best way to build battlements? Two blocks high with every other block on the top row missing (even if you can't really see over them like that)?

Maybe put a half block between each block in the rows along the wall. and put another row of half blocks behind the full blocks making it easier to to look out over the wall?

OK guys - am testing a server - try 217.137.144.226.

I'll be on for the next few hours so if someone could log on so I know it's working that would be cool ;)

Investigating...

I've added 'green pig' as an op - try again please?

Actually I'll jump into chat for this - lol

Jim

update: opping 'green pig' won't work unless that's your Minecraft username I think - I'll leave it for the time being though.

Fixed my port forwarding so my router points at my PC. Firewall rules checked and hopefully sorted.

We have a problem - I am on Windows XP SP3 which apparently means I have to run a VS.

I will let you know when it's back up.

Ok - while Ubuntu is installing we could make some plans!

What ideas do we have for the server?

Bear in mind that mine will be in test stage for a while so we always reset/restart later ;)

Jim

edit: Also - thanks for the rep! :D :D :)

I would say run this as a test just with Apt and GP for the time being. Once you're all happy that it is working okay, then consider adding / allowing others (hint - User name Cocoreturns ;) )

Edit - by the way Slippery - Harry Harrison fan?

Aye, and we can argue over whether or not to have unlimited resources enabled!

EDIT: I am voting for unlimited resources because then we can build with out boundaries, until our collective heart is content! Besides, how else would we be able to make a jade giant out of diamond blocks?!

I don't want unlimited resources personally. I don't really see the fun in just building without having to work for the resources. It would get dull rather fast I think and remove a big chunk of the feeling of accomplishment one gets from building something. Unlimited resources means no reason to mine, to explore caves or whatever else one does.

The Penny-Arcade server does not have unlimited resources and they've built a full scale version of both Rapture and Colombia, to mention some.

I believe we're to have a vote on unlimited resources:

ALL OF YOU WHO WILL BE JOINING THE SERVER, VOTE YES OR NO FOR UNLIMITED RESOURCES. THE LINES ARE NOW OPEN!

no, clearly. I can't see it being a lot of fun otherwise.
