Ok, just logged in to the server and updated it.

I *think* I turned on PvP too, but cannot log on to check while I'm at work. Would somebody please go on and at least make sure I didn't send the game into a spiraling abyss or something?

If possible, try and hack somebody to death too. I wonder if simply setting PVP=true in the settings file was all I have to do. I was reading about it and I think that's the correct course of action.

Firstly, if there isn't already, could we have a selection of freebie weapons and stuff at the spawn point?

Secondly, is the spawn point well lit and safe from nasties? If it isn't, I'm thinking that maybe it should be -- like a safe spot. I only ask because now that pvp is on, I think i'll scrap my MP project and just come on to find some action and reserve sensible things for single player. I'd be hoping to log in and /home to collect me some weapons and get stuck in...

No doubt it did. I am usually impressed by huge projects, but that one did it for me in terms of detail and such. Inspired, and with a little more time on my hands, I'm thinking doing a project of about that size. If only I had more time!

What can we expect during the migration? Will the Server be inaccessible?

Well, I bought a VPS from HazeNET and haven't heard anything about being assigned a domain or IP yet. I'm not exactly sure how that all happens but hopefully it will sort itself out very soon.

I'm backing up the server tonight and stopping it. You won't be able to log in until I finish the migration. Should be no more than 1-2 days provided there are no major snafoos or problems.

I think my server is a little more jacked than Jim's too...so probably a bit less lag, but I can't say for sure until I try it.

Any help at this stage would be greatly appreciated. I set up my account and bought a vps, but haven't heard anything from them about IPs or whether I got the domain I asked for, etc... Does this usually take a day?

HazeNET gets thrashed pretty hard online. They're cheap but apparently total shit.

We'll try for a bit, if it sucks I'll just cancel and put it on a better service.

We have a pretty low-use server for the most part (as in # of simultaneous people online) so I'm not terribly worried.

After reading some horror stories over lunch about Hazenet and its scamming ways, I'm glad I paid through paypal for only 1 month and that they never got my credit card info. Canceled that shit pronto - it was pretty much unanimous on the MC forums that HazeNET is BS and that you're a retard to host on their servers.

purchased a new server on myhosting.com - which gets much much more favourable reviews. Still on track for migration later tonight if my account is all set up in time.

If not maybe 1-2 days down - and advance apologies for the disruption. That said, I don't forsee a problem getting everything working again tonight, and if not, almost certainly within a day.

well, another fucking snowstorm last night so I was unable to get everything done between shoveling efforts.

I did

• Buy a new VPS
• Stopped server software on Jim's server and backed up the world file
• Logged in and created appropriate accounts.
• Installed MC server software.
• Created a randomly generated map to test out connection (new lighting engine looks beautiful by the way)

Still to do

• Upload the malaz world file backup
• Make changes to the properties file
• reactivate the server.

ALL IS GOING WELL. SERVER SHOULD BE BACK UP SOMETIME TODAY. CHECK HERE FOR MORE DETAILS.
