Notch has been busy, not just developing but updating on twitter today:
Release is on for tomorrow, features included are:
Hell/Slip/Whatever he calls it.
New monsters (dunno if that's just the ghast and pigman though...)
Brighter light needed to prevent spawns as you get deeper
Fishing! ('Officially Awesome' according to Notch)
Biomes
Watches that you can craft
Probably not ready for this release:
The torch/lantern change
Working on right now:
Multiplayer issues! He didn't think that health would work in time for the release though.
In other news, my Castle Gardens burned down

Can't wait for Hell/Imperial Warren, although I probably don't even need to go there yet. After all, I don't even have a house yet, still gathering resources and working on my fence.
uhm, that should be 'stuff.' My stiff is never nihilistic.

The update is released and of course the servers have crashed
Why am I not surprised.
EDIT: Never mind, a couple more tries and it went through. Instead I am unable to log on to the server.

WHOOOO BIOMES! There's a snow zone just next to my Single player home.
And the Fishing rod is awesome.
So much to do.
If I am not mistaken, he has updated the colors and stuff. I've never seen the sunsets look this beautiful.

No, I reinstalled Frendens pack and the sky still looks awesome.
In other news I just built the portal to Hell in Single Player and the thing nearly scared the crap out of me.
I decided to make the "portal" room simple. A big open room with some chests, workbenches and furnaces. Then in the middle of the wall I dug a twenty block deep corridor three high, two wide. Too small for the Ghast to come through and hopefully they don't spawn more than 20 blocks from the portal. At the end of it I carved out a rung for the Obsidian and lighted it up. Nice purple colors appeared. I was finishing the corridor up, making grooves for torches and placing some TNT in the ceiling... and then the portal made the most horrible rumbling sound I have ever heard. I thought a Ghast was coming through already and I ran like fuck for safety. Took me a good long while staring at the portal with my bow levelled before I went near again. Turns out the sound is just triggered by your proximity.
Almost too scared to go in, but I am going into Hell now. Wish me luck, if you don't hear from me again I died of a heart attack.

"The gate stands ready. Now my young brother, the time has come to assume your true form. Arise Diablo, Lord of Terror. You are the harbinger of our return, Diablo. Send forth your terror into hell!"

Oh my god I don't know if hell is extremely glitchy/broken or Notch is just fucking with me.
The air appears to be solid. It's like transparent blocks or something. And my portal is just floating in space. I've fallen down some hole I dug in the air and I am having trouble making my way up. I can see other pig men floating in the air as well. And the Ghasts are everywhere and they are fucking creepy. They make baby noises. One of them just flew into a lava stream and started screaming... fuck me.

Cock! I need that bridge block mod before I can finish my portal room but I can't download it yet!
EDIT: /ragequit
I'll try in the morning...I can't really do much without the blocks because I actually have no floor, due to all the redstone that needs to be tested before I can cover it all up again. I could go ahead and open the portal but I'm too scared in case something comes through when I'm not ready for it.

The love I bear thee can afford no better term than this: thou art a villain.

Okay figured out my problems with hell. The texture packs don't work in hell and that is what makes it all buggy. Works perfectly in vanilla.
Hell is fucking scary though. I picked a fight with a pig man. Bad idea. Do not start a sword fight if there is more than 3 of them near you. They gang up on you and when you respawn and return they are still pissed off and will kill you again

We should all join hands and sing a hymn to attract Jim back to us.

Hmm. No MP, and my SP has reverted to... vanilla i 'spose. Also, I tried reinstalling Painterly Pack, but it's not working...
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

The portals are not going to be working in Multiplayer, so no hell for us unless Jim teleports us in there.
On the other hand it sounds like redstone is working almost properly now, so doors and stuff should work. But still no minecarts though.
I'm taking a break from Hell. With the "inventory is deleted when you die" bug, I have no inclination to go in there again. Hell is not fair.

Well, SMP is already buggy as hell, there probably is a problem with getting two worlds to communicate with several people at once.
I'm just happy that the biomes came through. First thing I am doing next time in SMP is going exploring in the new biomes.
