The final 5 were presumably integrated into terran society, but there's no indication they knew what they were -- or whether or not they bred with humans at all.

As for the episodes in (I think) S2 where kara goes back to Caprica and is captured and forced to participate in the birthing machine thingy...I don't remember if the women were actually pregnant or not. They had a lot of messy tubes going into them, but pregnant? I don't remember.

Hmm...new thought, and I'm having trouble formulating it so help me out:

Do the cylons, especially the Final Five have some kind of advanced memory that they can't normally access? A couple of times now we've seen cylons go through some kind of memory-zone-flashback-thingy when they die (most recent cases being Anders and Ellen Tigh) that seems to contain memories acquired in past resurrections. The cylons that have been reprogrammed like Boomer and all the Final Five (until recently) had no access to their extended memory. It took Ellen dying and being resurrected on a base-star in New Caprican orbit, it took Aunders getting shot in the head and brain damaged. Saul, Chief and whasserface all know they're cylons of course, but they don't know anything beyond their personal experiences...like they have to experience resurrection to be tapped into the memories or something. Boomer had to die and be resurrected before she knew fully what she was.

I'm thinking the same goes for Kara where she's (at least) half-cylon. She has these prophetic visions all the time, but could those visions really be just be portions of the extended memory passed down to her via her father? Like her painting the multicolored circular thingy as a map to the nebula that contained the temple of Jupiter (or whatever it was). Being a skinjob himself, he'd know what the temple was and how to get there. Same for Hera recently drawing the notes to the cylon song...She has a cylon for a mother and is linked into their song now.

I still don't know what the frak the song is all about, but maybe its just supposed to be an artistic way of expressing that the cylons are all linked together through shared memory. The song itself is meaningless but it has far-reaching implications.

[crazy theory]

Maybe Gaeta's song is linked to the cylons too...even though he isn't a direct descendent, maybe he's got some cylon blood in there from way back and its manifesting as the song

[/crazy theory]

I'd guess the Galactica is going to go out in a blaze of glory, taking out Cavil's evil lair.

Then the remaining human and Cylons can merge into one species, eventually forget about that, create new metal Cylons who revolt and have it begin all again.

That would be a dark kick in the pants.

not so much as a kick in the pants as a pretty predictable outcome :D

Galactica jumps into the lair, guns on autofire, sneak in and rescue hera, boomer some how redeems herself involving a heroic death.

or

starbuck, like a tit, leaves sam plugged in, plays the music or inputs the sequence as some kind of code, he jump galactica, they find something wonderful, galactica can't jump back, send a raptor, bring the fleet, evacuate galactica explodes in a firey ball of fire, taking out gavels conveniently timed attack

OK, I need help!

I have seen all the episodes up to the end of series 3. I ignored the thread because I didn't want to be spoilered. While I have been in the US, I have now seen episodes 11 - 16 of series 4. So I have half a season missing and need the gaps filling in!!

I just watched the one where Boomer kidnapped Hera. Am I up to date? So, at the end of series 3, the Chief, Anders and Tai etc discovered they are the final 5 and Starbuck came back to lead the fleet to Earth. Halfway through 4, how did the Cylon ship and a load of the Cylons join the fleet and I get the impression Starbuck is no longer leading them to Earth. Why? And where are they heading instead? How come Apollo isn't in the military anymore? Oh god, so many questions! When did Tai get with the blonde? I missed all of Tai getting to grips with being a Cylon too. Balls!

I fracking love this show but Ellen Tai and the President REALLY get on my tits.

EDIT - WOAH! Just reading back. Starbucks dad is a Seven?!?!?!? ARGH, I missed too much, this has been my favourite show in ages. Why did I skip half the final season?!?!?! I'm such a douchebag!

EDIT 2 - Wait! That's just a crazy theory. So we don't know Starbuck's dad is a Seven?! Not only have I skipped half a season but I am reading this thread backwards. This is quite the mind fuck :)

What in the world is Ronald Reagan's "Challenger" (slip the surly bonds of earth...) speech doing coming out of Anders mouth?

@Mezla: On the double time, Cylon Civil War, Resurrection ships all destroyed by Human & Cylon alliance.

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

You've missed quite a bit! Let's see...

Kara did indeed lead them to earth, but it turns out it was nuked 2000 years ago, and it no longer livable due to the radiation. We come to find out who else was living on it... but the final five! I'm a little hazy on the story, but apparently they developed the other skin-job cylons there, #'s 1-8, and then were attacked by other cylons, I think? They were downloaded into other cylon bodies of theirs, but for some reason lost their memory, I'm not sure why, and then were integrated into human society somehow.

So, cylon #1 decided to lobotomize the cylon fighters, and 6 didn't like that idea, so she, along with the Sharons and Leobans, rebelled with the help of the older model cylons. They took a base star, and there was a fight where they were almost destoyed but managed to get away. They proposed an alliance with the BSG fleet, which was reluctantly accepted, leading to all kinds of cylon-human drama.

Did you miss the trial of Gaius? If you did, he was put on trial for crimes against humanity, and Lee was put on security detail for the lawyer appointed to defend him. Turned out that lawyer learned from Lee's grandfather, and so Lee decided to help him in the case, in addition to believing that Gaius was innocent of what he was being charged with. His speech in Gaius' defense was one of the great moments of this season, so you definitely have to go back and watch it.

Colonel Tigh found himself interrogating the 6 in custody pretty mich every day, I think he was looking for some sort of reassurance while struggling with the knowledge that he is a cylon. Not only did he get that from her, but he kept seeing Ellen in her place, so eventually he got her pregnant.

I'm sure I'm leaving out many other details, so anyone feel free to fill in and/or correct me. Any other specific questions?

The series finale next week will be so fraking awesome.

This week's episode was a little weak imo, but it is more of setting the stage for next week. Best part was Adama's speech though.

I did a big post on the backstory to the series, which I hope helps. I'm planning a big story so far thing for later this week.

Interesting episode. I think it is worth bearing in mind that the whole finale was originally a single two-hour special, and this was the first part of it. By expanding to three hours, this first section simply got lopped off and stuck out by itself without even a cliffhanger. So it doesn't work well by itself (take the first 20 minutes of the uncut version of 'Pegasus' and see how well it stands by itself). But as the first movement of a bigger story, it is exceptional.

The opening, with the shot of the whole Galaxy and then Caprica, was stunning. I've heard people asking what the CGI team will be doing on CAPRICA since they don't have that many space shots. Well, I guess they answered that with this episode. The shots of Caprica City were absolutely stunning. Looks like that when RDM told the effects team to hold back all the big stuff for the finale, he wasn't kidding.

Mary McDonnell was on top form in this episode. Tough but emotionally scarred as well. Seeing Lee and Zak together was cool, along with Lee and Starbuck's first meeting. Baltar and his dad were amusing, and Six's actions for his father were interesting, although how much of it was motivated by compassion and how much by her need to ingratiate herself in Baltar's life is debatable (Tricia Helfer does a stunning job slipping back into the ways of the 'old' Six from the mini-series).

The present-day stuff was a bit more predictable in terms of events, but even mundane scenes like Adama packing up his belongings and Fed-Exing them to the baseship were well-done. I hope they didn't get around to stripping out the accelerators from the Viper launch tubes, though. I'm guessing Galactica is going to need them next week.

Anders saying something interesting: "Slip the bonds of Earth...find a perfect world for the end of Kara Thrace." He's going to find a new world for Starbuck and, by extension, the rest of humanity?

One thing that is lame: are they really going with the explanation given in the mini-series novelization that Baltar was so embarrassed at forgetting Six's cover name he never asked her about it again in the following two years?

Adama's speech was well-done, and the people choosing sides (by crossing the red line) and notably Baltar not doing the same. There was also a nice bit of business in how they showed Adama's plan, with Tory and Ellen discussing it during a casual stroll down the corridor and Lee authorising the release of the prisoners. Skulls and Racetrack having another recon mission was also funny (and vital: it seems that no important planet or facility can ever be found in the series unless Racetrack is leading the recon).

So next week they let slip the dogs of war. Interesting to see how RDM's promised final revelations about Starbuck, Hera, the Head-People and the Opera House come out in the story because it looks like a fairly straightforward action story taking us straight to the resolution. But I'm sure he has a few tricks up his sleeve.

Baltar's going to volunteer. The last episode DEMANDS it, as well as the "Opera House" scenes.

Is it one of those sites that you have to download stuff to watch it? Because my laptop is from work and it's security is at a stupidly high level. I will get it all on dvd at some point when I get home, so it's no biggy (I like spoiling things for myself!).

Thanks guys! That's enough info I guess. So did Apollo just not fancy going back to the military after Baltar's trial? Is he going to be the next president or something? The President is still dying right? I've been itching for her to cark it. Her mannerisms and way of speaking drive me fracking insane, it is a real thorn in my side for the show - along with Ellen Tigh's bo-toxed upper lip, gah.

I guess I forogt to mention, Lee actually decided he could do better for the fleet in politics than in a Viper, so he became the representative from Caprica. He actually became the President temporarily at one point, but sorry I can't remember the cirucmstances. Anyone else want to chime in on that one? I didn't like that change at first, but he has done some very important things over there and it was turned out well.

I agree, Roslin has gotten on my nerves more than once, she's just as hypocritical as the "bad" guys on the show. I must say I've become more sympathetic to Ellen, however, since she resurrected.

Yeah, this episode was a little slow, but I enjoyed the backstory. When I saw that next week's is two hours, I understood why they did it this way. Next week will be two hours of action and intense drama! Looking forward to it...

The only other cool ending I could envision for Galactica is if in the last episode they somehow find data in the cylon computers of a habitable world within jumping distance. Right before the end, Galactica jumps away to the new location, sending somebody else to rally the fleet and lead them to the habitable world too.

Galactica however doesn't survive the jump and they have to "put er down" on the planet...leading to an unlikely but pretty impressive-looking orbital reentry crash landing of Galactica where the majority of the crew (minus roslin and adama of course) survives to begin a new colony that nucleates from the shattered remains of Galactica. Gaius becomes jesus.

Wait, wasn't Daybreak pt1 supposed to be like 1h long? My torrent was only 45 min regular ep long. Anyway, the last few episodes were great, I mean reeeeaaaly great. I can't WAIT the finale, but at the same time I feel sad. I've been living with this show for the last, what, 3 years? It'll be so sad when it ends.

But still, my wish had come true: Lee is in the uniform again, baby!! Wuhaaa

Roll on Daybreak 2 :p
And one by one the gardens died

So i'm almost up to date, just watched everything from 'we found Earth and it sucks' thru 'Gata and Zarack's Excellent Revolution' this past weekend... holy fuck, it reminded me of how when this show is on, it's ON. I really liked seeing Lee and Starbuck stop with the ongoing romantic/sexual tension and start shooting things. Adama and Ti were awesome, and Roslyn's I AM COMING FOR YOU ZARAK, I AM COMING FOR YOU WITH MY TEETH! speech... hey, I believed her.

And i teared up a little when Adama's office started cracking. Looking fwd to a suitably pyrotechnic/gritty ending. Adama MUST go down with the ship. Theirs is the great romance of the series. What? You know it's true.

I tend to agree with the theory that Starbuck is tied to the Daniels.
