splash of colour and more oomf. also a little drizzle. for some reason
I keep thinkin there was rain during Rylls day out. Something to do with
my imagination and storm clouds when they unchained him.

Awesome as usual Dolmen. Can't wait to see it when you add the finished colours, shadows and texture. The layout is excellent. Makes you believe Ryllandaras was a massive killing machine.

Hey guys. Looks like this is the right fit, really happy about the feedback. The advice helps, especially abyss and D'rek. you guys are to this thread what bacon is to a club sandwich!

started rendering out details today. Is there anything distinctive about the armour or swords or even rell for that matter? Right now it could aswell be tom cruise up there, for all we know.

rell is always described as greasy and sullen, and i'm not sure about armour, but i think it would look great just really beat up, like, you can tell this guy has been in the thick of it with a man-jackal.

This is my one nit-pick with this picture, Ryll looks awesome almost exactly how I imagined him, but the guy in front doesn't stand out to me as Rell. I like what you've done with the mask Rell has on mirroring ryll almost, but I don't think it quite fits what Rell is described as wearing (though it isn't described well at all), though I absoloutely love the samurai/japanese feel of the whole picture.

Rell is described as heavily scarred, with long greasy hair, but throughout the battle in li heng he is wearing a helmet with a gilded visor. His armour is described as repaired shortly before the last confrontation, so it's probably going to be pretty beat up. The swords he wields have milky spheres as pommels, and were the ancient blades used by li hengs protectress. Thats about it in terms of description that I noticed, but someone else might be able to dig up a little more.

So after a bit more deliberation I have tried to make some adjustments to the characters and some refinements of the colour scheme and rendering.

IH: I'm trying to give Rell a bit more characterization while keeping with the original silhouette. I'm not sure if I'm succeeding. I HAVE introduced white pommels, and a gilded visor with a hint of embelishment. the horns are out and just realized I need a bigger second scabbard for the image to make sense.

That aside we have dead guy 1 in the background...might throw in a few more. I'm wondering if I should though. Don't want to distract from the overall action. the entire thing needs much more love. Its pretty disjointed because of all the various layers. I'm still running away from the paw pounding into the ground. I don't care what anyone says impact fissures are hard!

Feedback Please!

Fuck you and all your fucking mad art fu talent for this piece of awesome. Is that feedback enuf?

Ok fine...

I really like the detail added on Rell, i agree you need the second scabbard, you don't need the impact effect, just make Ry's hand hover just over the wall and maybe a hint of scratches where the nail tips touch, and the dead body is pointless - add heaps of them or take it out entirely as a needless detail.

I really like how Ryll's face turned out, not just characterwise but the style as well, very neat.
And I agree with Abyss, more bodies or no bodies would probably be better. My vote is on more bodies, and maybe some splatter on Ryll to show it's his work
I like the paw impact though, gives a sense of his size/weight and berserkly ways.

Btw, instead of a second scabbard, you could go with none at all.

put a knife hilt in the short scabbard and move on to other details, he could have been carrying that naked sword his whole life for all we know

love the artwork
HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.

this and this

during the siege of li heng, i don't think rell is ever described as having sheathed his swords. i might be making that up but it feels right. what's he need sheathes for?

I dont remember mention of sheathes either, the swords held ryllandaras. I'm sure silk just handed them over bare so yes i actually see where the no sheathe logic fits.

I'm glad for the feedback everyone. I added bodies last night. It looked forced so they're out (till i find a dead guy tutorial probably). Isolde and abyss, you both make good arguments about the claw/paw impact. Will play around with i hybrid of both approaches. Had a long talk in chat with some geniuses. Shiny Marble tiles in light drizzle wouldn'd give out much dust or rather the drizzle would quickly drive it down. Anyway im gonna have a bit of fun trying to figure it out.

Just a side question, should we be seeing rylls tail?

Probably not. I would assume that the tail would be upgoing, and that angle is blocked by its body and the top margin of the picture.

I had the same thoughts initially then i saw this:

I noticed the tail was down through the entire pouncing motion but this is a cat, could not find one for jackals. frankly speaking I think a tail would look
awkward between Rylls hindlegs.
