thanx alot for all the replys ! The picture of Sagat is a bit like ive imagned but im more into the fighter from the old kickboxer movie with van damme. Tong po =) he also have the long braid and a mean face hehe

If you mean Bloodsport and Chong Li, I dunno. Bolo Yeung, the actor who played the Kumite champion was 50 years old then. Bolo was also about 5'8". Sagat in the video games is well over 7 feet, so it's a better scale for a Karsa image.

I don't think he means Bloodsport. "Kickboxer" was an actual move with Van Damme. There were a few sequels, equally terrible but Van-Damme-less.

Hmm. Isn't he still a growing boy? Like from HoC to post-Raraku times he could very well have grown plenty.

Well I figure he's probably around 18 years old (relative to humans) at the start of HoC and just beginning his mid-twenties by the end of TBH. So yeah, he may have grown, but probably not by too much.

Actually that wouldn't make sense would it? A decade must be like one year for Karsa and that much time does not pass between HoC and TBH. I dunno, I'm still gonna picture him around 11 feet solely because I picture Icarium as about 9 and SE specifically says Karsa is the taller of the two.

In a Q&A interview - Pat's Fantasy, Interview #1 - Erikson said, that Karsa was a little over 8 feet tall

Well if Erikson said it then I'm obviously wrong. My perception of the height difference between races must be a lot bigger than said difference really is. Well the beauty of books is that I can still picture it the way I want, and I prefer to keep Karsa at 10 feet tall.

Then again, I may be mistaken but I thought Karsa was described as being double the height of a human, which would bring it up to about 10 feet. I swear in HoC its described how a humans eye level pretty much met Karsas waist.

Also, humans swords were described as looking like "toothpicks" (or something like that) to Karsa's eyes. He definitely seems bigger than 8ft in the intro to HOC but later on I think his height gets toned down some.

Yes Karsa was stated as using a shortsword as a dagger. My height perception stems from the Tiste. Let's say hypothetically that an average Malazan man is anywhere from 5'8" to 7'. The Tiste are describes to be on average about a head taller than humans, making them around 6'7" or something on average. In HoC when Karsa met the Edur he thought about the fact that they were tall, but nearly as tall as him, so the difference is obviously quite noticeable between Tiste and Toblakai. So if the Tiste are roughly around 7' tall on average, and Jaghut are significantly taller than Tiste but shorter than Toblakai, then a Jaghut should probably be around 8 and a Toblakai should be at least 9.

I dunno, I'm probably wrong but after 7 books there's no way I can re-picture this stuff. Karsa just looks strange to me not towering over humans by double their height.

Though him being shorter then what I pictured does make his ability to go inside human structures more plausible, I always wondered how Karsa fit inside Samar Devs house, I mean I didn't think she had ten foot high ceilings.

Ah, I never saw it. Good catch there, and yeah, Tong Po did have the braid.

When I said Sagat was 7 feet, I was referring to his improbably wide frame for that size. It'd need to be scaled upwards for Karsa, but that kind of thickness is how he can be that tall and do the things that he does. Karsa's probably thicker than Dwight Howard and blessed with much, much thicker legs and a lower center of gravity.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Personally I agree with you. I picture Karsa's height as being better than
10' but less thatn 15'. He seems to dwarf almost everyone he runs across.

I always pictured the humans around 5'7 or whatever the average was for humans back in the day.

Tiste would be tall, 6'6 is likely tall for a Tiste

Jaghut would be around 7 feet

Leaving Karsa around 8, 8.5 feet tall.

Still astonishingly tall, averaging 3 feet taller than humans.
