I was reading another topic that5 was about the nacent and the flood there that was caused by hanan mosoq in
MT. I had forgotten this and had thought that the water ther came from raraku during the shattering of shadow. So...where did it go? Where did the water return from? I think it might be the shallows QB, Hedge, trull and onrack were wandering through after leaving cottilion.

Anyother ideas.

First thing that comes to mind is magic. As in, the desert just vomited up water and decided to be a grassy landscape instead. It has something to do with the Whirlwinds power and the reawakening of the memories of the land.

That or possibly that giant iceberg the Semk God was stuck in during DG melted and spilled into the present.

The water that flooded the nascent came from the realm of the Korvalahrai demons who are seafarers.

Memmories? I don't know. Raraku has a piece of shadow touching it right? I think this will lead to the answer. Or maybe it was the memmories of the imass who was trying to possess the whirlwind/ fragment of shadow?

I wish I knew what exactly happened when shadow was shattered. Maybe the raraku sea was displaced by the fragment of shadow that ended up in raraku?

When Raraku found out, how many insanely badass beings are there (Quick Ben, Kalam, Deragoth, Cotillion, "Karsa fucking Orlong", Bridgeburners), it just pissed itself.

Raraku was once a sea, the water is a memory.

The water being a memory is just to abstract for me. What triggered it? Was it the eresal touching the imass? Was it the prophecy in the book of dryhana? Was it the bridgeburner ghost compelling rarakus awakining? There has to be some connection to the fragment of shadow tha wanders raraku. I'm just not sure what.......a memory? So a memory can take physical form? I have some searching to do when I get home.

You see memories take shape several times in the books.

In HoC L'oric visits his father in the past, and that same memory of his father some how enters the present and rescues him in the end of the book.

In Midnight Tides Feather Witch and Udinaas step into a memory of the Imass' ancestral plains, in this place the Imass a living and breathing unaffected by time passing.

Did the sea there originally disappear naturally or unnaturally? I can't recall if that's a part of it.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Part climate change over the course of some hundred thousand year and part Jaghuts creating massive Ice fields I assume. The ice eats up the sea and lowers the sea levels.

Over-farming and irrigation did something to the area, but I can't recall if that had anything to do with the sea.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

The water was sucked up by a massive pile of potsherds.

I don't think that osserc was a memory. For some reason he was observing one that had hounds of some sort and either humans or eresal following them. This is a idea that still has me confused. Are realms then memories of a race? I think so. So can a land remember its self? And then bam...water? If so kinda corny. Alive again like a tlan too a imass. Right.. Kruppe and them used the mhybe and memorries to shape a ream/warren. I get that raraku has memories in it. All the layers of people buried. How then was raraku awakened. Topic change then.....

What caused raraku- the holy desert. Home of the whirlwind goddess and the holy prophecy vomit up thousands of years of bad dates.

Water.....oh and all the ghosts.

He was. L'oric himself states that he has been drawn into the past and mentions something about Osserc having been missing. In a later book we find out where he's been. The curious thing is that Elder Gods apparently can be in more place than one, even if they are only a memory of themselves.

He was observing the Elder Times on the 7 City continent. When Deragoth ruled and the Eres'al followed them. The KCCM were forced out of the continent. We're some 400,000+ years back in time here.

Realms can be memories. Like a pocket warren. But everything also has layers. Memories. History. Lives. Eras. Pain. Glory. Power. All you need is magic or presence of mind and you might find youself stumbling into something else.

As far as I call it was part of the Prophecy of Dryjna. It just did it.

bah! my bad - was reading a bit in MT and put two and two together and made... er 15? :p

Raraku was a sea originally. IIRC - silting, over farming, irrigation etc drained it dry.

Or, you know, he just decided to take a break from visiting the past to go rescue his son. It's like QB manifesting himself in places while his body sits back in some shed in front of some sticks and string, being guarded by Kalam, only Osserc does it to the extreme and sends himself into the past. Either he just decided to switch to the present for a bit after L'oric's visit, or Dryjna's own little pocket warren the assassins went to is also a memory-warren and Osserc went there.

The whole past-present memory warren thing is a bit weird, and its hard to say whether those who travel into them can actually change anything. L'oric certainly seemed afraid that he would be eaten by the Deragoth. And yet, (MT spoiler)
