It was an end; not the end. There is no "the end." Only a new beginning. Roll on TCG and whatever comes next!

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

SE asked a little while who that fans don't send him friend requests to his personal facebook account, there's a thread about it here somewhere. He got a couple of hundred requests after someone posted the link to it here.

Congratulations to Steve, it has certainly been some crazy ride. I expect that I will read the final book, experience an emotional rollercoaster and then cry a bit at the end. And then probably just be at a loss for words, as it is done and just done, no more. I will probably need some whiskey as well to sleep.

That means that MoI was supposed to be the second book instead of DG, but then the MoI manuscript got lost and, frustrated, SE wrote DG instead before rewriting MoI.

I've never heard this before.
HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.

Computer malfunction, I think? Trying to remember just how it happened, but yeah, the second book got lost and he went ahead with Deadhouse Gates instead. I think it was frustration at having lost a fairly complete manuscript, and not wanting to write it straight away again, instead he wrote something new.

Wow that adds a whole new metaphorical layer to the Chain of Dogs.

I could be remembering wrong. It wouldn't be the third time. One of the older members could probably validate or amend that story.

Great news. The guy is nothing if not prolific. Other authors could take a queue from him *cough* GRRM *cough*.

Can't wait, preordering from Amazon UK today.

I'm outrageously excited. The man manages to churn out amazing stuff and in record time, it's unbelievable and we're incredibly lucky as fans that he's so dedicated.

Are you watching, George Martin? I hope you feel very ashamed at your comparative rubbishness.

I am on cloud nine, this is without a doubt the best news I've heard for a long while, however I should not be surprised, the guy is prolific.

I can confidently preorder in the knowledge that the book will arrive on or around the set publication date, unlike the two times I preordered Mr Martins books, I fall for it every time.

The fatman could definately take a couple of pointers on how to stick to deadlines. I know I'm going off topic but does George have a son but as and when he has his heart attack or whatever obesity related death then maybe he could actually finish the series?

Aw scratch that anyone remember the rubbish put out by Brian Herbert after his pops died, ruined Dune for me! :(

I will apologise if I went over the top but I got beat at footy tonight so I needed to vent.
