Now there is a man who knew how to make enemies. The number of colleagues who jumped on the bandwagon to get rid of him is actually pretty funny.

Sounds like Robbie Keane will be going to West Ham on loan, they at least shouldn't be put off by his wage demands, having agreed to pay Wayne Bridge 95k each week.

Enjoying the fact that Andy Gray can no longer offend my ears every week (£100 says ITV hire him). I liked his appreciation of stats, however everything else about him added up to giant twat.

My major piece of evidence is his comments in the champs league final a few years ago when it was Barca vs Arsenal. Leman got sent off early on and he claimed that the ref ruined the game. His argument was that the ref could have just played advantage and waited to see if Barca scored, the logic being that if they did score, he wouldn't have to send Leman off. Bullshit, mate. A red is a red. If he had played advantage, he should have still sent him off after the fact.

Actually, the rules state that the ref has to stop the play if it's a send-off. He (or she, let's not forget!) can play for an advantage if it's a yellow, but not if it's a red. Just goes to show how much an "expert" commentator knows.

I think he'd be more suited to Spain. He shoots quickly and has a great aim, can hold a ball, is not always selfish. lacks a real dribble. He's marvellous at leaning against his opponent, back to the goal, and then wriggling past - but that's in the Netherlands, EPL defenders are made of sterner stuff. Finally, he's going to gather at least 5 yellow and maybe a red for diving and foolish, foolish fouls.
Oh, track record: 159 games, 111 goals. That's quite a lot, even in the Mickey Mouse league.

I think that if Liverpool had to shop in the Eredivisie, we'd have been better off with Toivonen, though.

Dirk Kuyt for Feyenoord: 71 in 101. Dirk Kuyt for Liverpool: 40 in 160. Mateja Kezman for PSV: 105 in 122. Mateja Kezman for Chelsea: 4 in 25. Afonso Alves for Heerenveen: 45 in 39. Afonso Alves for Middlesbrough: :w00t:

It's no guarantee, and I reckon he's closer to the likes of them than to Ruud Van Nistelrooy. Although Kuyt is hardly a failure and I think Suarez will do alright to a point, as he seems a clever player. Just can't see him being the superstar striker he was for Ajax.

I reckon Liverpool got the better deal for Suarez over Man City and Dzeko

Don't forget that Kuyt played as striker/ main target man for Feyenoord, but as an (attacking) midfielder (with defensive duties as well) for Liverpool.
Suarez has played as a 10/playmaker in the 4-3-3 Ajax system too (which fails because they lack good wingers), not just as frontline striker.... and yeah, it is much harder to score in the premier league. he won't equal Van Nistelrooy, but he'll do better than the others you named. He's not worth 22.5 million pounds, though, imho.

He played up front proper too for a bit. He moved to the wing when he wasn't scoring but they still wanted his workrate.

That said, I do think Suarez will score more.

Fuck off chavski please, bastards.
If Bando goes for the purported 50 mil plus sturodge 15 of that needs to be spent on negrada immeadiately, the rest on a centre back and a winger

I cant see Liverpool letting him go to another PL team, they'd be mental to. It's off to Spain with you, Fernando!

seeing as the verbal agreement was with gillet and schticks do liverpool have any obligation to honour it if a 50 million bid comes in?

His contract is with Liverpool, not the owners. If that was the case, then all contracts would be annulled whenever a club was bought.

I speak of the verbal agrreement that was reached this summer, where it was agreed that lack or champions league football or a 50million bid were ground that torres could force a move on.
Not his contract, that would be silliness

Legally, would they have had any obligation even if it had been Hicks & Gillet? I don't think verbal agreements have any proper weight in this country, do they?

Morally speaking, not in my opinion.

In Torres' case, it is all about money in the end anyway. Lack of CL football... aside from being totally subjective as to the cause (he'd have his own form and number of injuries to consider, too, when we miss qualifying (which we will)) - and there would still have to be a bid worth considering, too.

What worries me is replacing him. There is no way in the world that we'd be able to get Aguerro, Benzema or another world class striker with a future ahead of him so we can build a team around them, to sign for us. I mean, a swap with Anelka will not help much in a year or two.

You're looking at Carroll. Which is fair play, people will scoff at the prices quoted but on current form he's way better than either Aguero or Benzema.

£30m for Andy Carroll... Bahahahahahaha

If Liverpool are daft enough to be offering that money I will go and put him in a taxi myself... Everyone in the office pretty much finds it hilarious, don't forget Barca paid £28m for David Villa... The worlds gone mad!

Yeah, but it's deadline day. If you sell Carroll for 30mil, fail to replace him, and go down, you'll lose more. Similarly, Liverpool really really need to replace Torres and have the silly sum Chelsea are supposedly paying to play with but time pressure and other teams knowing about said silly sum, so the price goes up.

A week ago it would have been silly from both sides, two weeks ago it'd have been downright unthinkable. But now? It's logical, in the OTT context of football transfers.

Like you say, can't really win here, £30m is a ridiculous offer for him but there is no way to replace him...

Bah, Ameobi, Best and Lovenkrands to replace him... Got it made... :)
