Teillos watched as the dragons departed, not knowing what to feel. Part of her was enraged that Pug had left. Another was glad that he was gone, for perhaps the Imass would feel no need to take further action now.
She was angry. Angry with the Imass for having the nerve to cross her, angry with Pug for his ancient betrayal, angry with Tolkner for his defiance.
And, most of all, angry with the man that dared to stand before her wearing her lover's face...
And just when I had resigned myself to a typical immortal life, with much power and no passion.
Teillos Asiant was angry, and she would not hide it. She would not expel her fury through useless, pathetic sobs. She was a goddess, the Daughter of Light, and the world must learn that she was not to be underestimated.
They would bend. They would all bend.
There were two men in the world she knew for her equals: Anomander Rake, her beloved and adversary, whom she had spent centuries following, and Rael Taronn, who lurked somewhere in that undefinable area between brother and cousin, friend and lover, enemy and ally. He had been all these things to her, and more.
The others, she would challenge. With some, she would prevail. With others, she would, most likely, fail.
But not this day.
The Imass had committed themselves to battle for a reason that no longer remained. But she would not allow them to turn away from it now. She would show them that hers was the fury of a goddess, not some moonstruck girl who happened to wield Kurald Thyrllan for all the wrong reasons.
She took to the sky, feeling her power surge within her. As she did so, she felt the presence of another, a dragon of darkness, her equal and opposite, working in concert with her.
This feels so...right.
He was the other half of her soul, come back to complete her again. She had always been the one to come back to him, before, in different guises.
And what face will you wear now, Anomander?
She was lost in her own need for destruction, and the presence of darkness beside her did nothing to alleviate her want. She was dimly aware of the cries beneath her, felt herself weakening as the Imass answered back in kind. Teillos and the dark dragon reached an accord, settling back down to resume their Andii and Liosan forms. She surveyed the ground before, littered with the broken bodies of Imass. However, there were a number still standing, and it was their leader she addressed.
"I see no need," she told Monok Ochem, "to continue this further."
The Bonecaster nodded once. "For now, Lady, I would agree. You will have kin to bury, on Drift Avalii."
Kin?
Monok Ochem answered her unspoken question. "We ever seek to rid the world of arrogance."
Rael!
The Bonecaster bowed to her, then he and his army collapsed into dust.
"Teillos..."
She froze. Turned slowly towards him.
It is not fair, that everything should stop for this love. But she was powerless. She took a timid step. Then another.
She wanted to throw herself upon him, crying his name. She wanted to run as far away from him as possible.
She brought a hand to his cheek, just barely letting herself touch it. "You kept your promise," she whispered softly.
It was painful to turn away from him. But she had other duties, whose call as, for once, stronger than her heart. Perhaps because the person they concerned owned as much of her heart as Anomander Rake did, albeit in a different manner. She entered her Warren, making for Drift Avalii and the Throne of Shadow.

*The sand in the crater boiled upwards in a short, squat column, before coalescing(sp?) into Monok Ochem, bonecaster. Seeing the new arrival, Tolkner scrambles to his feet.*
You wished to speak with me Priest?
Yes. I have a... proposal for you, which I think you'll find interesting.
You seemed to be unique among your companions in showing some sense during our recent conflict. I will listen.

IC:
From the roof of a nearby building, Ragnar watched as the heaving mass of filth, rage and malevolence descended upon the temple of Oponn. Between the temple and the vulgar riot stood one man. Or more accurately, one man and his Ascendant...
Ragnar narrowed his eyes. Apparently, more is at stake than the lives of a few bloated nobles...
Turning around, Ragnar descended into the warehouse.
OOC:
This is the first time I have participated in one of these. Are there any rules other than don't use someone else's char without permission?

A cold breeze blew across the field as the two groups converged. The Imass, cold and unmoving, stared blanky beneath their helms at the 4 Liosan mages and lone mortal. It would be, by their account, a simple task to dispatch the group. In a similar twist, the Liosan mused on the same thought.
Flint and iron raised in unison as the undead masses charged the Daughter of Light and her companions. Metal clanged loudly, showering sparks along the ground. Scores of Imass crumpled beneath the sorcerous onslaught of Kurald Thyrllan let loose by Teillos and her attendants. In the heat of battle, neither side was aware of the darkening sky until they were cloaked in inky blackness.
"What in the abyss...?" murmured Teillos.
A loud tear was heard across the field. Pausing in midstride, the Liosan woman watched as a portal formed opposite the battle ground, a gaping hole of unfathomable darkness. Her eyes widened as a figure stepped from the rift.
Clothed entirely in black, silver hair flowing down his back and covering the hilt of his sword, the man looked around. His angular eyes glittered harshly as he recognized the Liosan and ranks of Imass. Raising a long fingered hand, power surged from his palm in frightening amounts to collide with a score or more of the undead warriors.
"T'lan Imass, we meet again."
A Bonecaster stepped forward at the acknowledgement. "It would appear," he rasped, "that you are not as dead as you would have us believe, Son of Darkness."
Rake laughed. "Have you set your eyes on the Liosan now? I would have thought the Jaghut kept you well enough occupied."
"Arrogance is a challenge we always meet, Andii."
"If that be the case, then look no further." Moving into a crouching stance, Anomander unlimbered Dragnipur and addressed the remaining Liosan. "Leave this field if you wish to survive."
"You do not command us!" screeched the woman Nerisa. "We follow Teillos, and none other."
Rake paused at that name, his heading tilting as he focused in on the woman to Nerisa'a right.
"Teillos...."

Despite himself, Shalk dragged the boy out of the fray, all the while keeping a close eye on the fleeing dragons.
It was, he felt, a pity that the dragons had left. It did not mean this fight had any less potential than before, though, or at least not much less.
Even without his warren open, Shalk could feel the powerful energies surrounding the fight, and he could not help but sigh happily. Beautiful, deadly and wondrously destructive energies. He hoped he could join in, if just to widen the destruction already wrought on the land.

IC: The Daughter of Light surveyed her followers. Their numbers were small.
Very, very small.
But loyal to her, and unified in purpose- although holy war was not a purpose Teillos normally espoused.
And you expect the Tiste Liosan, these pure, shining children of Father Light, will be content to hide forever in Thyrllan, living like common mortals?
Teillos smiled to herself. No, her followers were too warlike ever to want the safety of obscurity.
And so, she realized, was she. Teillos Asiant, despite her mortal failings and her green eyes, was still a Liosan goddess. She was beginning to feel a god's hunger...a need...for something. Power? Control? Worship? Liosan in general were arrogant creatures, and their ruler, Teillos thought ruefully, was no exception.
Except that your arrogance has always caused harm to those you love instead of just yourself.
I have no one to love now.
It was her defense, this lack of love, the substance that for so long had shaped her entire being.
I watched my daughter be ripped apart by Nah'rhuk. I bled when Hood tore my son from my womb. I watched my husband die even as he killed the one I hated. And I gave my daughters the means to kill each other. That is what love has done to me.
She still grieved for Anomander. She knew she always would, no matter how many thousands of years she lived. But now, with her people beginning to return to her, she felt, if not content, at least as though she had something to do other than mark time towards her death. She no longer sought oblivion.
It was something.
But she could not allow her people to descend upon Anomander's Andii or the remnants of Rael's Edur. It would destroy everything they had worked for. For her love's memory and for her own- surprisingly intact- ideals, Teillos would prevent it.
I will need to find my people a war.
Cereh, her second and most faithful, stood. "You granted us an audience, Light's Daughter."
Teillos saw fear in the woman's eyes. Perhaps she thought Teillos would consider speaking without permission insolent. "I did, Cereh."
The woman made obeisance to her. "Shining Lady...do I have your permission to speak?"
Teillos almost laughed as she heard Tolkner's name for her from Cereh's lips. It didn't seem right, somehow.
"Of course you do, Cereh. What news?"
"We...Nerisa and I, that is," she said, gesturing to a woman beside her, "have sensed a clash within Thyrllan." Nerisa nodded mutely.
Poor woman. She and her twin Aniesa had been Morneson's bodyguards, thousands of years ago, and had been absent when their charge died- twice.
No, no, no, Teillos, do not think of your daughter!
She managed to keep her voice impassive. "Oh? And just where might this use of power have come from, Cereh?"
Cereh fell to her knees. "Forgive me, Lady, but...we think it is the Renegade."
Every Liosan in the room flinched. Teillos bit her lip to keep from gasping.
Pug. The D'ivers who had transgressed against the laws and been banished for taking too much power.
He had tried to kill Anomander. Had...stopped. Chaos had seized the moment of her love's weakness and taken him, and it was only Teillos's sword, Melrasch, that had saved him. Him and the mortal Tolkner.
Thinking of that day made her think of what had happened after.
His eyes were gold as he greeted her...
No! No thinking of Anomander, either, or the child that was made then, when you, Teillos, finally overcame your foolishness. Or maybe just became more foolish.
"Lead me to the place where this clash occured, then," she told her second. "I must see for myself."
The golden dragon was appalled at what she saw. The destructive force that had been unleashed was enormous. But what had caused it? She could sense Thyrllan, but what had been the other side of the conflict.
Teillos landed and veered out of her Soletaken form. Her two lieutenants came out of their Warrens.
"What the hell happened here?" muttered Teillos to herself.
Nerisa hissed. "Bringers of Peace!"
Assail. Oh... Had the other women not been here, she would have let out a string of curses that would make a soldier of the Malazan Empire proud.
She noticed the prone figure of a man lying on the ground. Liosan. Teillos rushed over.
"It's him," she said. "And he has vanquished the Assail Lord."
Nerisa drew her sword. Teillos looked up from the man.
"Nerisa, do you see anything?"
"The Renegade must be destroyed," she said. "The laws tell it so."
Damn Liosan! "The laws also say that an opponent should never be killed when he is defenseless. Especially not a child of Father Light. And in any case, I need to question him."
"But, Lady..."
She flashed Nerisa a quelling glare. "Thank you, Nerisa."
Pug moaned. Against her will, Teillos's hand came to rest on her own sword hilt.
Renegade, I think it's time you and I had a long talk...
Insert profound statement here.

*As he was facing off to the Lord of Moon's Spawn Monok heard the desparate cry of Tolkner, smilled a sad smile and spoke silently to the priest.*
Indeed Priest of Light, I came here for the one called Pug; this fight, I fear will be our last, we go to our deaths, my clan and I. But we will not, cannot back down. The price would be to great.
*The words of the human stranger rang out across the crater and Monok replied, speaking loud this time.*
This battle is beyond even me and mine, mortal. You would be pounded into nothingness, leave while you are still able.
OOC: I appologise for the Monok-sized-ness of my post!

Shalk watched what was happening more or less expressionlessly, save to raise an eyebrow at the man's outburst. It was certainly not what he expected, and he needed time to reconsider his plan. The boy beside was was becoming increasingly edgy, fully aware that he was in no way a match for any one of them.
Someone's getting angry now...
He chuckled darkly to himself, then cleared his throat politely and loudly.
'I agree with the man, although I must say I would have chosen more appropriate words. I'm sure my boy here feels the same.' He smiled broadly. 'Of course, if you're inclined to hack at each other, I won't stop you. Hahaha... in fact...' His voice trailed off as something else occurred to him, then he continued. 'I'll join in the fun, however insane that sounds.'

Teillos knelt down next to the broken creature. "I want..." What did she want, anyway?
"Pug Threllos Khran," she said slowly. "Renegade. Apostate of the Light."
"Yes."
"Can you tell me what has happened here?"
Pug's eyes widened. Evidently, that was not what he'd expected to hear her say.
"There was...an Imass dragon..."
"Imass?"
But they had sensed Assail...
"But..an ancient came. I could not sense what it was."
"An Assail," she told him. "A Bringer of Peace."
"Ah." said Pug. He paused. "I destroyed it."
"As you must," she said. "You must destroy...
A thought occured to Teillos. She would need...a destroyer.
"Have you come to kill me?" he asked. "Have you come to end the threat I pose?"
She shook her head. "That would not be honourable," she said ruefully.
Pug snorted. "There is no honour. There is only death, and rage."
He was my friend, once. My companion.
Suddenly, she felt a presence in her mind. A flash of light appeared before her, and a mortal man stepped out of the portal.
"Tolkner!" she cried. "I must admit, I didn't expect to see you here for quite some time." He had lost his love too, she remembered.
She went to him and took his hand. His eyes were haunted by pain; mirror images of Teillos's own.
"It is good to see you," she said gently.
"And you, Lady,"
One of her Liosan cleared her throat. She turned to see Cereh staring at her, her eyes widened in astonishment.
"My lady...who is this mortal?" She spat out the last word.
Teillos smiled calmly. "My priest."
"Your what?"
"Was I not clear?"
"But, Lady," said Nerisa, "he's human."
"So?"
She had known this would come up eventually. She had dreaded it.
Pug looked on in disdain. Tolkner stiffened.
I'm sorry...
It looked like her two Liosan were about to explode. Just as the tension became unbearable, two men appeared through a new portal. Teillos didn't register what the conscious man was saying until he said the two words.
Morneson's grave...
Morneson...
My daughter...
Insert profound statement here.

OOC: this topic seems to have died down... and sorry for the double post... I feel the urge to post
A small rip opens near the group of Tiste Liosan, and two men step out of it. The rip, like two pieces of cloth being woven together, mends, fading away.
The first man sniffs somewhat distastefully, dabbing a few splatters of blood off his cheek. Then, he proceeds to tighten his rope belt around his waist, and shakes some fur off his green robes. The second younger man is quietly standing in the background, his face pale and hands trembling from fear and exhaustion.
'That was fun.' The first man remarks, as the younger man crumples silently onto the ground. Hearing no response, and ignoring the Tiste Liosan for now, he turns to see his companion unconscious. 'Hm... That certainly poses a problem for the return trip, hm?'
Finally, he smiles brightly at the Tiste Liosan. 'Good day.' He gestures apologetically at the limp figure on the ground. 'My friend here can't greet you, I'm afraid. And I just visited Morneson's grave.' He sighed. 'Pity...' He brightens up. 'So how're y'all?'

Marrus sat a his table, the Deck of Dragons arrayed before him. The rooms furnishing were well appointed but worn with age. Everything seemed to have some small flaw.
He gasped as he laid down the next card, his halfhand deftly handling the creased cards. The field before him was astonishing. The Daughter of Light - an ascendant long inactive - in direct opposition with Obilisk - the Imass. And, veiled in ambiguity, the House of Shadow were arrayed in the backround.
Debates with himself were concluded within Murrus. His Liosan armour awaited in the cracked wardrobe.

Hardly surprising that Death has no taste. [Nerruse]

After trawling through the entire Phoenix Inn looking for this topic, I had to conclude that it was deleted. Take it away Anomander/SL!

Slightly phased from the transition from the portal it took Tolkner a couple of moments to be aware of the anomosity from the other Liosan there. Trying to push out the image of a cold altar bearing an even colder body from his mind he regained his composure. There was another sorrow in his head, a sharp pain that had now faded to a slight throb.
My Shining Lady hurts too.. The curse of those who walk in the light.
The strength of those emotions from that relatively brief handshake had brought a surge of sympathy and a perverted comfort in knowing that he was not alone.
Although i am..
Turning his gaze to the figure lying on the floor Tolkner had to quickly look away again as the aura surrounding him was blinding. Such power in one person.. How is this possible? And just how does Teillos intend to use him?The hatred and fury boiling in those eyes that had locked onto his in that brief moment had made his blood freeze. Hood follows this one like an old friend
Before he had a chance to voice his words of caution, no doubt enraging the other liosan again, two more people entered through another portal. He didn't recognise either one.
As always things get complicated. And complicated has the nasty habit of becoming unpleasant.
Sighing internally he bit down upon his tongue and witheld his advice. Best to see what happens first. A quick glance at Cereh, who was still staring half in incredulation and half in barely constrained rage, was enough to confirm he had made the right choice. Best not to annoy them just yet.. if more for the peace for Teillos than myself. The light knows she needs to know some peace..

"… Lost in a shadowy portal between two lights;
A place where bladed pain runs throughout all delights.
My soul is lost in the blissful, melancholy moment,
Wanting no fulfilment - just an everlasting instant …" - Mort
