EDIT: I feel so bloody lost now. There's a part of me that keeps hoping there was some stupid mistake, like the prof losing my exam or smth. I e-mailed her, but haven't heard back yet.

The first set of application deadlines is on Friday. I honestly don't know if I should still be going through the motions with applying. goddamnit all

to make things worse, my parents (esp my mom)are going through some rough times. If I were to tell them now, it would end terribly. And my grandparents are coming to visit at the end of the month, so there's that thing as well. THe collective dissapointment of basically my entire family is something that I am not sure I can live with. At the same time I can't lie to them. I've sometimes been dishonest about marks and such in the past, but this is too major.

ugh, it's just bad all around.

Uh, maybe that's just American parlance, but are you in your final year? Is there no way to make up for a failed class?

no, I just finished second year. One more to go.
I'll have to re-take it, cuz its a compulsory class.

the problem is, I have to apply for articling NOW, to find a position for next summer. And my current transcript means that
1) I can pretty much not bother apply to any place that does Family law.
2) My overall GPA is f%^&ed, and on top of that anyone doing the hiring will see that I failed a course, making my chances of finding a position very slim.

anyhow, still going through the motions, whilst hitting up every single office in town to try to find any volunteer work for this summer. Exhausted, drained, and hurting all over the place, b/c I decided to try to get back and shape last week. THis has just been a very bad way to star the week.

Once i'm done with the current mafia game (my only real internet commitment atm), I am going to take a serious break from the 'net in terms of recreation. Setting a rule for myself that I won't be going on any forums/message boards/games sites prior to 10PM on any given day.

my latest Tetris + solitaire experiment has shown me that once I print out a WordArt of a statement/goal for myself, I am perfectly capable of motivation and self-restraint. If I don't my internal apathy/lazyness reigns supreme.

Ah, I get you. The US doesn't have an articling/clerkship requirement (though one certainly can include internships, volunteering, and stuff like that to become a better asset for employers), so I read up on what that is and I can see why you're down in the dumps. Not much to say besides my sympathies, and keep trying.

As someone who had a years worth of fails on her GPA and record, let me assure you it wont matter as much as you think it will.... I know it still sucks, but you can still get a good job afterwards and prove yourself. Who knows, maybe this will drive you to do even better?

no, I'm kidding Ment, I agree with Centz - it may cause short-term hassles but in the long run it shouldn't ruin your chances for success. You're a smart guy, there may be some way out you haven't seen yet because you're upset, or some way to turn it to your advantage

got my last mark back today, so now I have all my grades.


At this point i'm not really shocked, but i'm genuinely angry. I have an infuriatingly solid letter grade average, and a single failure. And I suspect shenanigans, because i wrote a ton for that exam, despite my sleep-deprived state.

Still waiting for them to announce exam viewing dates. I'm of a mind to fly back to uni for a day, to try to set this straight. since I was one of the few people who refused to take advantage of the ability to type out their exam, I also suspect some possible shenanigans due them losing one of my exam booklets--which may sound unlikely, but yet we've dealt with a case about a similar situation (though in another law school) this year... And I don't even know if I can get a confirmation of how many booklets were marked, because my prof hasn't gotten back to me yet.

as is, i've just finished applying to 3 different places, providing an "unofficial transcript copy" (because, oh, joy, my last mark cam in today, and application deadline is tomorrow!" with an F in there. I feel incredibly productive.

If you have reason to suspect then I fully encourage you to do whatever takes to get the situation fixed.

DW, drinks are on me, all day long. Got a call from an office I did an interview at yesterday--I got the summer student position!!!

feels great. I've been unemployed since beginning of April, when I stopped working at the call centre to cram for exams.


hopefully, this means the plan for the summer's almost set out.

no, articling is a hurdle yoet to be jumped. and it's for next summer anyhow.
Got a job for this summer, which is essentially a miracle, given how people were applying for those last fall. Whilst I spent 2 days walking around law offices, dropping off resumes and landed an interview, and an intern volunteer position, with prospect of it becoming contract work.

it's just that the fact I was able to find a law-related positoin at this point of the year after just about 2 weeks of searching is nothing short of miraculous.
