Oh, shit.

Was chatting after a few drinks at work, then the top boss comes over. The man in charge, notoriously fickle and back stabberish, on the day where redundancies in each department are being announced.

It's a woman's borthday, a significant one, and we're all talking about her having kids.

I venture my own name as a good one, people ask why I think it's good.

I say, "well, you associate good names with good people you known named such, and as I'm amazing, obviously it's a great name."

"I mean, you wouldn't call a kid something like Sebastian, which is only a name for c**ts."

Complete silence. A few glances towards the boss. It's at this point I recall the name of one of his sons.

AWKWARD.

Nice work.

Reminds me of the time back at a school reunion in 2005 I spent 30 mins bagging out Victorians for being lousy drivers and worshipping AFL because they had nothing else to live for, then having a rant about how criminal defense lawyers are scum.

My old school mate - whom I had't seen in about 10 years - then introduced me to his fiancee, the Victorian defense lawyer. Oh wow. Quite a few chuckles at my expense.
I looked at them (she seemed to be taking it pretty well actually) and replied with something along the lines that I now had 2 choices: shut up and be embarrassed for the rest of the evening, thus ruining it for me, or keep going for gold and ruin it for everyone.

What option do you think I took? :p

I'm going to ignore that jab at Victoria, it's obviously the demented raving of an ignorant and jealous Queenslander. :p

Oh please, I'm from NSW. Yes, I know that's worse. :p

ooowwww, my head.

I am never drinking again. until next time.

woke up htis morning in anotehr person's rez, with the vaguest recollection of how I got there.
My hostess was gracious enough to make me a cup of tea, before we collectively passed out again. I did have to get up to drag myself home, though, because, oh joy, today's is training day at teh call centre, and supervisors such as myself are getting practice calls from trainees, and we have to pay attention and give feedback. oh joy.

Say what you may about Winnipeg's deathly cold, but stumbling home in minus 20-30 is a very sobeirng experience. I feel nearly coherent right now. and in another half hour, training will be done, and i'll be able to pass out again, yay!

gods, I haven't been this wasted since that time in August tried going shot for shot with a that romanian girl from my fundraising job.... ugh. I dread to think how much money we've spent. between me and the above-mentioned hstess we collectively blew somehting like 200 bucks.

Morning Tricksters!

That steak, egg and cheese bagel for breakfast was delicious.

Is there anything better than hanging drywall on your weekend off?

I thought not.

Spending an evening with 10 friends playing DnD then poker while watching bad horror movies with good beer?

Never actually played DnD, but the rest sounds awesome.

I was, of course, being facetious. It was a shitty weekend. 7 day work weeks suck balls.

I worked last weekend as well and the clients were coming in at the last minute more so than usual.

Well, it's Australia Day today. Woo. The bad? It's an excuse for immigrant-hating idiots to bash 'un-Australians' both figuratively (and literally in some cases) in a hilariously ironic display of bigotry and just general douchiness.

On the other hand, it's an excuse for an all-day pissup complete with BBQ, cricket, Aussie flags and (God willing) a pool. I can take the bad with the good. :p

You know, I'm getting this weird impression that bigotry is getting worse, though this might be the fact that I was not aware of it as much when I was a kid.
Even in Canada there's some springing up here and there, none so far during Canada day but, I'm starting to worry.

It's way better here (London anyway) than it was when I was a kid, so I'm grateful for that (despite the Daily Mail's best efforts). Although I think London may be an exception rather than the rule for the UK, as I have genuinely found it hard to ineract with people from smaller towns/villages on several occqsions recently because they hold views that are, and I can't think of a better word, xenophobic and mildly racist.

I don't get it. What point were you trying to make? That there are lots of CCTV cameras and they don't do much? Am I searching in vain for subtext?

Probably.

But i'm about convinced Falstad is a computer experiment somewhere to see how well someone can communicate using only videos and pictures. :w00t:

It's about pointless spending on something that yields few results while intruding on citizens' private life?
I've been hanging out with philosophy majors too much lately.

Besides if you don't like CCTV cameras just get one of these: Infrared umbrella

Something like that.... this is in the thread title: "Come in, sit down and share your random thoughts with a good pint.". So I guess my post doesn't break that rule.

And yes, I do rely heavily on pics and vids. I attempted to get into a respectful discussion one time here (on another thread) and was called a troll (which doesn't bother me), but I found that if you disagree with the unwashed masses that frequent this place, the mob takes over and everyone piles on.... so I try to keep it as weird, mundane, perplexing, idiotic, sexy, frustrating . . . <dot dot dot>.
