My 2 cents, RDR2 is not worth full price.

That's why I'm considering getting 2 free games alongside it.

I wanted to like RDR2, so badly. I mean, the amount of detail in the game world is astonishing, an incredible achievement. And then it also has the most infuriating, aggravating control scheme and some baffling gameplay design decisions. After about 15 hours of playing, I still hadn't managed to 'get into it' in a way I had with the first game. It's quite an overwhelming game, yes, but I don't think that's the reason I stopped playing. There was just something about it that just didn't engage me. Technically, it's incredible. But I never became passionate about playing it.

That having been said, I do want to give it another go at some point.

I totally get the criticism around this, and it's quite possible the controls may turn me off (I dunno, I haven't played a Rockstar game since GTA 2. I tried 3 waaay back, but my PC at the time was crap, so I didn't get far into it before relapsing into RTSs again).

One thing I'm getting from it though is a sense of place that's giving me strong S.T.A.L.K.E.R. vibes. And that's one of my favourite games ever, even though when you aren't following the story, for the most part it's a meandering mess where stuff doesn't really happen unless you start messing with the world. But I still loved that sense of loneliness and "being lost in a harsh uncaring world" to death. If RDR2's frontier can recreate that sense of relief getting back to civilization, than it's be worth it.

Plus, y'know, controls can be fixed with mods'n'shit

The detail is absolutely incredible. Wild animals interacting with each other, the physics of, well, everything, from water leaking from shot barrels to what happens to people on horses when you roll rocks down a hill at them.

That said I stopped playing around chapter 4? I think I got distracted when Sekiro came out, and the story just wasn't enough to drag me back.

What makes me want to play again is heading out into that landscape without a map to just see what else I can find, and blow up/set fire to/drink/fight/hunt/drive trains over...

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

A new dlc for Warhammer Total War 2 has brought me back in. I still love this game. Trying out the new and improved Empire as Baltasar Gelt, the metal mage. It's very engaging so far. The elector system works much better, and the additional units have made an already great roster even more fun!

Because my ISP is being a bastard and throttling any app that's not Steam (GOG, Rockstar Launcher, Windows freaking Update!), I am not gonna be able to take advantage of the RDR II pre-order, cuz the Launcher only starts up in "offline mode" (while at the same time I can download a game thru Steam!), so fuck it.

EDIT: re-booted the modem and still got the deal. Since I had gift card as a birthday gift, I used that to do the pre-order.

So, anyone gonna be picking up the Outer Worlds? the reviews appear to be pretty good.

I'd be interested in checking it out via GamePass, but I need to upgrade to Win 10 first.

I think I'll get Outer Worlds next week. I'm kinda eyeing the list of games that's coming out around now and it's expensive.

On the other hand I cancelled my Stadia preorder, so I've got an extra 1000 crowns to spend next month. Google have been walking back their promises in terms of streaming, so I'm going to adopt a wait and see approach. I am still interested in Stadia. If it can replace the need to buy a new computer every 3 year to play top of the line games I'm sold.

I have Game-pass, Outer Worlds looks really great and yes I'll be playing it this weekend.

COD is also out tonight. Looks like it might be a good one.
Monster Hunter World Iceborne: It's like hunting monsters, but on crack, but the monsters are also on crack.

It's been announced that The Last Of Us Part II will be pushed out 3 months (from Feb. to now May). I really like that decision because how busy spring is going to be with games, so moving the release to late spring/early summer is just fine by me.

Girls' Frontline is getting busy.

We currently have a Halloween event on, nice and easy, a bit of fun really. To cover the incoming PTSD that is Singularity.

Most of the EN server will not pass this event. Shit starts getting hard. And I am going to enjoy it.

Prep is done - 6.4k memory shards so I can mod3 M4A1 and ST-AR15 instantly, tons of equipment, but then I also have to get AK12 and AN-94, get them to skill10 each AND level 100... Wew lad.

Ubi is moving their Q1 releases (Gods & Monsters, Watch Dogs Legion and R6: Outbreak) into FY 2020

Bloodlines 2 announced a delay "sometime into 2020"

Q1 is clearing up for me, actually- Only Dying Light 2 and Doom left there now.

It’s Fallout meets mass effect. You have a ship you use to travel to destinations in a solar system. Both planets, moons and other ships.

Played an hour or so of Outer Worlds yesterday. Got to the ship, went to the first town.

Feels like returning home to a Bethesda game. Only now it's fallout in space. And it's next gen and somewhat more polished.

Ok, read a couple of reviews, interest piqued! I quite like the fact that it's not supposed to be a long game... and that it's not really what you'd call an open world game. Restricted game time for me means I never seem to complete the big games now; I still have Rdr2 and Zelda waiting to be completed.

I've seen someone say 'it's like playing Futurama' and other comments about the shameless copy of Kaylee from Firefly - these all seem pretty positive! If it's not a long drawn out game with a ton of collecting missions and a fairly tight story I might go for it.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I recommend it without caveats. It is stylish and quirky and polished and genuinely funny. Not to mention that the choices you make are not at all as obvious as they first might appear to be. I was supposed to make a choice about power, whether to divert it to one place or another. On paper the choice felt obvious, but when confronted with the actual consequences I was no nearly as confident in my choice. At no point have I felt the choices I have been to be the binary good vs evil choice.

Also, in conversation with the very first ranking corporate type I met I was given the option to betray the doc brown like character that frees you at the very beginning and provides you with the main quest. In a replay I'll have to try that out.

Borderlands endgame has gotten stupid. To keep enemies scaled to your level you need to engage Mayhem mode which beefs everything up. OK, fine, except now as a melee siren my melee attacks are basically useless as they do almost no damage to anything (despite about +400% on the modifier), but that's not the worst of it.

Anointed enemies need to be rebalanced kind of heavily. Most of them are bearable at least, but then you get I think Anointed Militants who can (and will) repeatedly chain into skills where they are invulnerable to all damage but can keep hammering you for free. God forbid you go FFYL against one because they will always use their invuln skills then. Because of all this, they take about fifteen minutes to kill. Each.

*watches 8-minute long launch trailer for Death Stranding, remains completely confused about what the game and story is*

Still, some feat not to entirely spoil a game in such a long trailer. I mean, either that or the game is completely nonsensical. Hmm, wait...

Yeah I’ll likely still end up buying it :p
