This game somehow manages to look more fun and interesting than all the AAA multiplayer shooters released this year:

That's because basically ANYTHING is more fun and interesting than Call of Field, Battleduty and Modern Bullets.

So what were you guys' favourite games this year?

For me it's definitly either the Witcher 3 or Bloodborne. Probably the Witcher 3. Apart from those two, I thik it'll be Rocket League, Journey (ps4 version), The Beginners Guide and maybe Fallout 4, though to be honest I'm not so sure about that last one.

This has been a good year I think, all in all.

Favourites:
The Witcher 3 is my game of 2015.
Invisible Inc probably comes second. I fell in love with the art and idea during the first three missions and decided to not treat it as an-between snack but give it full attention when/if I finish TW3 with all DLC on my blood&bones playthrough, so paradoxically, I shelved it :p.

Galactic Civilizations III will one day be AMAZING but that will be 2-3 years in the future, when most DLC is released and the core-game is unrecognizable, it feels now like an updated GalCiv 2.

I guess most of my time was split between W3, EU 4.

Disappointments:
Act of Aggression.
I was hoping for something like point&click RTS-y like C&C Generals, and while it has that, it is imho a bit of a mess: the action is frantic and almost over in seconds, which sucks because that frantic pace plays out on huge maps and your figures are tiny. In addition to that, there's a dire need for micro-management to actually get combined arms ops to work. When it gets to that micro-management, well, many units on each side look alike because they are unit customisations. Tough luck if you select the ground-to-air specialised APC from your convoy of 5 instead of the anti-infantry vanilla APC when you spot an ambush: you're shot to pieces.

And as a peek ahead: in 2016, both Hearts of Iron 4 and X-COM 2 are the game I am really looking forward to, plus Total War: Warhammer - once the reviews say it is ok.

Unquestioningly, Witcher 3. It was a game that occupied my spare time in the summer, when I generally tend to spend a lot less time gaming. TW3 broke that trend. It was immense.

My other 2 major gaming past times this year were Pillars of Eternity and (and I still can't believe this!) Age of Empires II HD.

My top would be BlazBlue: Chronophantasma Extend (as if waifu as my avatar didn't give THAT away). The best 2d brawler out just now. Excellent mechanics, every character plays differently and the pace is good and fast.

Fallout 4 was great fun, other than that I've not really played any new games this year as such.

The Steam Christmas Sale is live and of course Steams server is getting crushed.

Apparently, because of the automatic refund system Valve introduced, things like daily deals and flash sales are gone. All games have the same discount all through the sale.

Looks pretty poor so far. Most stuff I have on my wishlist that's not this year's release is only discounted in a bundle.

This is a very prelim look (checking via phone, not logging in). But so far I have one "must have"- the African Kingdoms DLC for AoE II HD, which seems to be 20% off. I'll use one of the multiple prepaid gift cards my employer gives me for every gift-giving occasion on that. All the "big" releases it seems are worth waiting for a weekly sale sometime down the line.

EDIT: Ok, so there's some OK sales. Shadow of Mordor and Dying light are both 66% off, I'll probably grab those eventually.
Far Cry 4 is still ludicrously expensive. Arkham Knight and FarCry3 aren't discounted at all (though FC3 is part of several bundles)

Missed this post last week.

There's a ton of games I haven't played that I am sure would be on my list if I'd played them, like Until Dawn, Bloodborne, Mario Maker, Halo 5, Tomb Raider, etc.

But going by the games I played and enjoyed the most this year a top ten would look something like this:

Witcher 3
Batman: Arkham Knight
Dying Light
Tales from the Borderlands (I just played the first episode today and that one 2 hour experience was honestly better than most games I've played this year.)
Her Story
Grow Home
Mad Max
Mega Man Legacy Collection
Saints Row: Gat out of Hell
Metal Gear Solid 5. I don't even want to give this game a mention but I can't ignore how good the actual gameplay was.

Honorable mention: I played a ton of Dragon Age: Inquisition this year. If DA:I had come out in 2015 I'd put the game in third.

Hey! Want to relieve those awkward early 2000s when you were just getting into messaging systems and going through school? Back when friendships and love was this weird thing you couldn't really talk about directly?

I just may have to buy that.

New Deus Ex Mankind Divided actually looks promising. Who knows, maybe EM can actually do it well?

DXHR wasn't bad as a game, but the story was incredibly forgettable. This trailer seems to have almost an "Alpha-Protocol-type" vibe to it.

So who is excited for Civilization 6?

I think this time around I will be waiting a year or so after release before buying it. I mostly just play the games for military conquest and I don't think the games have changed enough since Civ 3.

If it's anything like Civ 5 was to Civ 4 and Civ 4 was to Civ 3, they will overhaul and improve several mechanics from Civ 5 but also remove a few. Then they'll re-add new and improved versions of the missing mechanics (and a bunch more civilizations) over the course of a couple expansions. And then eventually you'll be able to get a big combined bundle on Steam for a big overall discount. Definitely worth it to wait, I think.

I don't really like the sound of the city infrastructure changes (because it sounds like even though you build districts around your city centre it is still only the centre that can defend itself?) but the more flexible culture/policies system and environmental research bonuses sound like smart improvements. There supposed to be adding more interesting mechanics to the religion part of the game, too.

New Mirror's Edge is out, but it doesn't seem to be mind-blowing, based on review sources I generally follow.

I'm still likely to get it when it becomes reasonably priced (40 and under), because although IRL I have slight discomfort around heights, the idea of free-roaming parkour really appeals to my inner 10 year old who spent waaay too much time trespassing on nearly-abandoned unfinished construction sites. The story is mediocre, but I totally expected that from the trailers.

From the footage I've watched I think Mirrors Edge 2 looks sub-par. I want to play it as well, but like you say I'll buy it when it's 66% off or something in 2 years.

Dark Souls fans might want to keep an eye on this thing. It's from the makers of Lords of the Fallen:
