On the subject of Doom 3 floating around (that it's shit), well, here's a little something from the sound division:

It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; because there is not effort without error and shortcomings; but who does actually strive to do the deed; who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotion, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement and who at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly. Anyone here played Dungeon Siege III? I'm thinking of picking it up, but from what I've read it doesn't sound too promising...

Honest Admission: After seeing a review and seeing how they changed the game to even more console style, I can only say: don't buy this shit.
Elated Elaboration:DS1 was a brilliant mindless hack'n'slash with a rather original leveling system, fluid gameplay and an awesome soundtrack.
Sad Realization: DS2 was something of a letdown, though I couldn't say why. DS3 is a sequel in name only from what I've seen. Advanced stage of consolitis.

Addendum: Jeremy Soule, who made music for DS1 and DS2, also made music for Morrowind, Oblivion, Dawn of War, Total Annihilation, Neverwinter Nights and Knights of the Old Republic. Quite a record.

Dungeon Siege was a beautiful game. The graphics too, especially how they'd constructed the scenery.

I'd honestly never heard anyone have anything good to say about Dungeon Siege until DS3 came out. The more you know.

I really liked Dungeon Siege 1 and 2. I would describe them as team based Diablo clones, a newer generation with some great innovations and fun ideas, but unfortunately lacking the same polish and atmosphere that Diablo 2 had. I would certainly recommend trying out DS2 if one liked D2 and wanted to try something in the same vein.

Dungeon Siege 3 how ever is getting shitty reviews all around, all though most of that seems to be based around the controls. I find the gun user class interesting, but I'd never pay anything close to full price for DS3.

What sets DS apart from Diablo is (apart from 3d graphics, harr harr) that your class really depends on what you use. Of the four categories - melee, ranged, combat magic and nature magic - you can learn everything. And you learn through practice. Kinda like in Elder Scrolls games, really.
Must say I preferred to go at that game solo with no henchmen. Melee, 27 combat magic for triple attack, and nature magic for healing - a pretty self-sufficient one-man army. I sometimes miss the game, I must admit, though I've way too much to play in my limited spare time to go back to it.

DS3 is... gods. I... I just can't describe the half-assedness of that game. And especially the PC port.

Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

The faction missions can be completed after you finish all the story missions if you want to speed through that, and I at least recommend finishing them for there are some excellent missions in there.

However this is a game where I could and did grapple a soldier to a gas cylinder, hit fine aim and shoot it with one bullet and watch them fly off into the distance before it exploded, so the little flaws don't really bother me. Also pick up every minigun turret you see, it saves you so much money on explosives for destroying bases.

Yeah, I was floored the first time I realised I could pick up the miniguns. The first thing I do when attacking a base is either hijacking their gunship or stealing a minigun and then I just walk through the compound laying waste to everything. I've done that at least a dozen times now and it still doesn't get old.

Unfortunately I couldn't make the game run properly on my laptop so I'm playing it on PS3. No mods for me.
