The fact that a modern console-bound shooter even HAS prone in multiplayer is ridiculously awesome. Respect for that, hah.

Hrm, well, my gaming list is a bit shorter, though I'm sure I'll get DA2 eventually (don't want to, the story having been somewhat dumbed down, apparently, and it's gone a lot more action-RPG, too...might download it), and I already have Red Dead. ;)

Come to think of it, though:

Crysis 2
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Battlefield 3
L.A. Noire
SKYRIM!!!!!

And *maybe* Mass Effect 3. Ah, who am I kidding, I'm getting it even though I liked ME2 less than ME1. XD

I'm not sure on Ghost Recon: Future Solider, though. I liked Ghost Recon 2, but it's tactical, slow gameplay was partially let down by quite linear levels (given what it could have been), and I'm not sure I want that type of gameplay mixed with futuristic capabilities. :p

Gears 3 I'll borrow off a friend I know is getting it, and I'm actually hoping the latest CoD doesn't release this year. It would be better for the franchise, I think. Especially if it's not Infinity Ward...

And yeah, AC: Brotherhood, L4D2, I haven't got around to those yet, either. Ugh. :p

At least the list isn't super-long, and I didn't really buy that many last year, except I ended up buying RDR, Fable 3 and Fallout New Vegas...the last two of which I was kind of disappointed with, in terms of time I actually spent playing them. Skyrim, L.A. Noire, ME3, and Deus Ex ought to be different, though...many, many hours will be spent, probably hundreds in Skyrim alone. D:

Lots more shooters, though, for me. Normally I'm not a huge shooter fan, since Battlefield 1942...Halo, of course, but no more Halo games from Bungie now, so instead I seem to have taken up like 3 other shooter series, lol.

Ah well, hopefully I get into (and have time for) Crysis 2.

Good luck on your MCAT's, btw...hope the gaming doesn't distract you too much, lol.


EDIT: Thanks Ment, wasn't aware it had a set month yet...at least it's a ways away, or else I'd be screwed for mid-terms, lol.

Ugh, and THEN I find that one site here has a fixed date for Deus Ex - 26th August.

Oh, and Operation Flashpoint: Red River or whatever it's called. Might have to get that, too, if it comes off properly. ;)

yeah, i'm happy Witcher 2 isn't out till MAy... or I'd fail all my late-April exams, lmao.

I think S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 might be out this year too..... far, FAR too much gaming goodness

Bought Magica yesterday, but didn't have the hardware to play this little indie game.. Now I know what all those programmers do at the big firms. They OPTIMIZE.

I like flags and guns as much as the next man, but abducting and slapping women has never been on my gaming wishlist. Yes, footage of the mode in action hasn't yet been released, but it's really, really hard trying to imagine how this could be work out fine.

OXM details four multiplayer modes which will support up to eight players each: Dukematch, Team Dukematch, Capture the Babe and Hail to he King. Duke Nukem Forever will come in multiple editions, and is due for release May 3 2011.



Honestly, I think this sounds funny as hell. It's typical Duke Machismo. I can easily see the feminists getting upset over this, but hell, it's something new and interesting.

Bah, what exactly are people objecting to? They're playing a game in a genre which also portrays fictional conflicts between major world powers, which oftentimes requires you to shoot other people in the head, leg, arm, chest, groin, wherever in order to kill them or incapacitate them...yet they object to 'Capture the Babe' instead of 'Capture the Flag'? Is it because of the capturing, or the slapping? If it's the slapping, well, I can get the problem, but really...it's over-the-top silly, not serious business abuse. If it's the capturing...honestly, let's call it "rescue the babe", then. :rolleyes:

I mean, I can kinda see the issue people would have with this, but really...it's a game, people. Get over it. If you don't like it, don't play it...but don't criticize something for a unique take on an old concept if the gameplay is the same...that's just a matter of taste. You watch, though - the whole "encouraging domestic abuse" or "it degrades women" angles are going to pop up soon.

The stupid thing is, this guy at OXM or wherever is just giving the response that he thinks people want/respect. Which only makes it easier for others to jump on the bandwagon. He probably actually doesn't give a damn, or finds it funny or entertaining, even. Stupid response bias...the curse of our time, seriously.

The problem as it presents itself is that, unfortunately, we all come under the heading 'gamers'. Which means that our opinions are invalid because we've already been desensitized to all the violence and gore and sex found in the industry. So of course we won't be offended. After all, computer games are like mind-destroying drugs, so only people who HAVE NEVER PLAYED THEM OR DON'T LIKE THEM can comment on them, arbitrate the industry, or create laws to do with them. Ugh.

The stupid thing is that no-one (that is, no-one on the other side of the issue, or in a position of power/respect) seems to recognize that, before video games, the exact same thing was said about movies. It's just one of those things. Next entertainment medium to crop up will become the new focus, and games will be left mostly alone. I just don't get how people can have such a knee-jerk reaction to new stuff. Especially if people like it. Especially without any conclusive, scientific evidence of the supposed 'effects' the thing is meant to have. It's like...hating on books you haven't read yourself. Or entire GENRES because you don't read that genre. Moreover, there's the "modicum of common sense" issue, when it comes to parents complaining about kids playing violent video games...RESTRICTED violent video games, specifically.

Duke Nukem has a history. It is a special game, as far as the evolution of PC games in the 90s was. it too the genre to new places, for better or worse.

Duke Nukem forever is continuation of that history. it is the evolution of that philosophy. Since a Duke Nukem game is being made, that simply means that there's demand for it. there's demand for the over-the top violence, crudeness, and obscenity which made the original a classic.

none of this means anyone playing will actually take it seriously, though.
