After really enjoying Gears 1 and getting very good at it online I sort of fell off the wagon with the sequels. I completed the campaign on normal for Gears 2 never got Gears 3 and got Gears Judgement with my new xbox. I wont go online but the game is pretty much the same. The campaign was enjoyable and a fun playthrough but really they could have done it in a DLC format. They didnt for teh moneyz of course but its a bit short for a full 40 pound title. It was either that or Farcry 3 though so not much choice really. I did enjoy it though.

Now to start something else. Might go for Prototype so I dont have to think for a few hours.

God I need to do productive things with my week off.

new game on kickstarter:
http://www.kickstart...weapon?ref=live

I'm getting very strong "Soul Reaver" vibes from this in terms of gameplay--use powers to shape your environment, there's supposedly a ton of optional stuff to explore, too (which was my favourite part of SR, that the rest of the LoK games ditched in favor of the best story ever told in a game series) I asked the devs the question on this both on Rock Paper Shotgun (where I heard about it) and on KS, and got pretty prompt replies in both places. Team seems pretty open about their work too--they're doing weekly dev diaries on youtube.

I'm backing this and I think other people should too--it's an international indie studio, and it looks like they're trying to do something really cool with this game.

Put prototype 2 in for an hour or 2. It seems somehow less fluid than the original somehow. Its actually put me off the game which is really odd. I cant seem to get into a game nor do I have the motivation to restart Dark Souls though my ocd is frightfully aware that I did not complete it.

I've just been playing through GTA IV again and I'm only just realising the massive change in immersion between it and San Andreas. Don't know why I didn't notice it before. What ever happened to the cool little side missions like delivering pizza, buying property and customising cars and stuff about your character other than clothes? Liberty City just feels so...lifeless compared to San Andreas, despite all the realism and pretty graphics.

Ive been playing Witcher 2 after my Dark Souls playthrough went with my old xbox. Its very good as is the plot and such but I am just terrible at the combat. Im not sure why im so awful and hopefully ill get bteer but good lord.

I also (and this may be linked) struggle with the alchemy and cant make traps or anything or have any idea why I need so many crafting components or how to use the mutagens. Im not very far into the game but I did play the tutorial and have no idea what im doing.

Still graphically very good as is the plot and voice acting.

I also went straight from Dark Souls to Witcher 2, and the drop in combat quality was jarring. I imagine I would have quite enjoyed the combat if I had had Dragon Age 2, or something similar inbetween.

That, right there, answers your question, does it not? :apt:

Not really. A big theme of GTA IV is the pursuit of money, and about America as the land of opportunity. Niko spouts that his sole motivation is money in like every cutscene he's in. And yet there's virtually nothing to spend it on. My favourite part about Vice City was that you could use the money you earned to buy businesses, you had plenty of missions that actively contributed to growing that business, and so you saw your empire grow, and had an active hand in doing that. San Andreas was very similar in that regard, and even had an RPG-like system of character improvement and customisation. In GTA IV on the other hand you basically play errand boy for the entire game, you're not really contributing to anything that's yours. Your cousin owns a cab business, and as your fortunes rise and fall so do his. How hard would it have been to integrate your contribution to his success in the missions? You earn the money that he spends after all, yet it's him that bloody buys everything, even the safehouse in Algonquin that it's continually stated that you need. Everything gets given to you, you don't actually earn anything for the entire game. It would have been much cooler if you actually had to invest the money you earned by working for the Russian mob, for instance, and you had to actually grow the cab business yourself. Then certain events in the game would have had much more impact. Hell, you never even see Roman's cabs in the game unless you ask to. As it stands the only things I spent money on were cab fares and the occasional clothes purchase, and that's peanuts. I think a good example of the difference is

Spoiler

I suppose my point is that from a story perspective, I couldn't care less about Niko Bellic's rise to power, whereas Tommy Vercetti and CJ had much better stories because you were much more involved in that rise. The graphics argument doesn't cut it I don't think because the things I mentioned are in the grand scheme of things not huge or even big changes, like being able to go to the gym and change your physique, or being able to buy better cars for the cab business. I honestly don't see how you could look at San Andreas and Liberty City side-by-side and think that the latter is even close to better.

I enjoyed GTAIV from a story perspective a lot more than the other games. However, that's never been what has brought me to GTA games in the first place. No fun stuff to do on the side, nothing good to spend your money on, and awful cheats made story about the only thing IV had going for it. Thankfully, I think Rockstar has realized the mistakes they made with IV.

Anyway, I really hate how I can't purchase any sort of Steam credit via Amazon since I have a lot of credit with the latter right now. I've been wanting to purchase Dragonborn since it came out, but spending $20 in anything other than giftcards isn't something I really want to do (I'm a cheap ass who waits for all the 50% off sales).

And then I went to purchase it.

"Out of stock."

How the hell is an online-only item out of stock? Oh well, thanks for trying.

Awesome article. I didn't know that so many Colossi were cut from the game. It's kind of sad. There is such a thing as too long of a game, though, and I have a feeling if there had been 48 Colossi there would have been a lot less variation between each one, and things would have begun to drag on. You don't want a game like that to lose its novelty. Haven't played the game in a few years, but I still remember my favorite Colossus - number 13. Standing up on Agro to rush alongside it, jumping off, climbing its wings as it rose high into the sky. It was exhilarating. To this day I have yet to play a game that matches Shadow of the Colossus when it comes to fighting giant enemies.

So im playing witcher 2 and why does it let me make superb leather pants? Seriously i thought that you get materials and with them get someone to craft stuff and sell them to make money but it costs more to make an item. I get why it allows you to make daggers at a fraction of the cost with the materials but why trousers. Im annoyed because i spent all my money thinking i was crafting trousers to sell before i realised i was making a loss.

Enjoying it though im still terrible

I only crafted stuff to use. I think that whole craft system needs a tweak, as the rate that you find materials means that you just increase stats by the same fraction as the enemies - its really very linear.

I always seemed to be able to get a good upgrade just before the next stage began anyway. Also, I collected a ton of materials that never got used, and by the time the game lets you acquire the best armor, it suddenly ends.. I think I only used it for the final fight.

I like the game, the combat is easy but it's quite satisfying taking out a large group, moving quicky and using that force push spell.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is 66% off on Steam right now, kind of tempted to buy it despite being ridiculously broke.
