I liked the first game and I will play Riptide eventually but it is not a day one purchase for me. It's basically more of a sequel in the form of an expansion to the first game than a next generation. The graphics are the same, the gameplay, UI and inventory system hasn't improved (for the better or worse), the setting and story is the same.
I am not the kind of person who would actually complain about this. I don't mind sequels in videogames. If the first game was fun there is no harm in continuing to produce that content until the fanbase turns away.
That said, I think this was just an easy way to make more money of a finished build. Hopefully this game's profits are going to fund a "Dead World" next generation to the series with better AI, environments and less idiotic story.

So I finally got around to play Portal 2. Quite enjoyable, and still rather impressive I think.
I'm not sure what I want to play now. Using a mac makes my choices more limited, and I've reached the point now where the awfull awfull CIV5 AI actively takes away from my enjoyment of that game.
I could return to CKII, but I think I've sunk enough hours into that to continue my break until the next expansion.

The homeworld IP went to ... Gearbox
Paradox and Stardock both bid for it, but it went to Gearbox. Well, one less game I need to buy at least. I'm surprised Relic didn't try for it. I thought Homeworld had been their breakthrough game.

moof the Homeworld team have left Relic. Though Sega (who now owns Relic) did, apparently bid for it.
In other news: Crytek-owned Vigil didn't get the Darksiders IP either. It went to Nordic Games, along with everyhting else THQ used to own.

I can recommend Quantum Conundrum if you're hungry for more puzzle platforming like Portal.
I finished it a couple days ago and think I actually like this game more than the Portal games. It doesn't have the same dark humor and great stylistic world but it makes up for it in more interesting puzzle mechanics.

The things is I enjoyed Portal and Portal 2 exactly because of the great humour and style. I need more than just puzzles to keep my interest going. I want stories.

People would want to play something like Portal without GLaDOS?! What...who....WHYYY!??!?!?!?
(Well, to be fair, I do get the appeal of a good puzzle game, but seriously...that just doesn't compete with Portal. XD)

Dragon Age: Origins is on sale for $7.49 on Steam (includes Awakening and all DLC). Considering purchasing it. I bought Origins when it was first released but I wasn't a fan. I was playing it on the 360, however - battle controls just felt really awkward.

Oh it does have a story. It's just a more children friendly version of Portal. Instead of being an amnesiac clone/test person subjected to insane tests by a psychotic AI you are a nephew sent to your your uncle, the crazy inventor's house, for the summer. You arrive only to find out that something has gone terribly wrong and you have to navigate the uncle's gigantic maze of a house to locate the problem and save the day. Along the way you navigate the same kind of puzzles as Portal only with more diverse powers and you have the uncle as the voice in your ear to provide clues and witty or disturbing commentary.
It's a less engrossing story than the portal series, they could have done a lot more with the concept in my opinion, but on the other hand, as the game progresses I found the puzzles far more interesting than Portals. Because you have four powers instead of one each level becomes much more varied but in comparison I guess you could call the gameplay it self less refined because Quantum Conundrum isn't forced to only iterate upon the mechanic of the portal logic.
It's currently free on PS+ if anyone is a subscriber and certainly well worth the 5 euro or what ever they are selling it for.
In other news, my PC is getting fixed! The harddisk is dead and it's going to cost me 2000 kr to get it replaced, but it's getting fixed! Also I'm getting an upgrade from a 120gb SSD to 240. 120 wasn't bad but since modern games usually take up 20-30 gb's and I like to have multiple games installed at once this will give me some more memory to play with!
Oh PC games, how I have missed you!
Let me make a list of games I need to look at.
Got to finish X-com: Enemy Unknown (God I hope the steam cloud save system backed-up my campaign or I am going to be a sad commander)
Bioshock Infinite
Skyrim + all the DLC with every graphics whore mod I can download.
Witcher 2
Farcry 3: Blood Dragon.
That should probably take me well into the summer season.

Wait a second. Waiiiiiit a second. Now if you mean "those multiple games I have installed at once" take up 20-30GBs, I'm right there with you. But if you mean *each*, then...O.o In fact, the only games I can see taking up anywhere near that kind of space are the Witcher 2 and a *heavily* graphics-modded Skyrim. Every other game is about 5-7GBs a piece these days. E.g. Far Cry 3 is only about 6GB and that game is not small. :S
Just checking that we're on the same page here...
(Personally, when I get around to getting a desktop, I'm probably only going to have a 60GB boot-drive SSD, and will probably end up getting a second one of similar size for gaming if I really need it, but otherwise intend to just put one or two games on the boot-drive when I'm playing them...)

Rage, Max Payne 3, Hitman Absolution, Assassin's creed 3, etc. they are all bigger than 20 gb/GB. It's my impression that now a days a AAA game that is focused on visuals is never smaller than 20 GB plus the mods/DLC you download and then there's those gigantic save files some of them create.

Eh, ACIII is technically only 17GB by itself. Max Payne 3 (Steam download) is, for some reason, 35GB and frankly that is ludicrous. For single-sided dual-layer DVDs, the largest of which is, afaik, 8GB, that's more than three disks. Now I appreciate we were approaching that point back when DVDs were just coming in, in games which had 3 or 4 CDs to install (and that's not including things like Final Fantasy on PlayStation...) but if an installed Max Payne 3 is 35GB, they should be shot for bad compression of their files. The game is not even that ludicrously good-looking! It's poor optimization or a vastly unnecessary array of extra data, it has to be.
Crysis 3 is only 16GB, ffs!
I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that at *most* a "triple-A game focused on visuals" should not exceed 20GB installed in the current market. Different if you're running texture mods to push the resolution beyond reasonable, i.e. a fully-modded Skyrim or similar, but otherwise the developers have done something wrong. Bearing in mind most of these games ship on Xbox 360 and that console is best used with games installed to the HDD - proud owner of a first-gen 360, and I frankly only have 20GB of available space. Now, can hardly complain if games are getting really large these days, it's the end of the console's life and I'm still on a ridiculously small HDD, *however* that is still a technical consideration for these people. Granted the consoles are only running these games at mid-range graphics at best so you don't need the higher-end textures which make up the bulk of the file sizes but even so, they should not account for more than 15GB of the total game install.
In sum: they are starting to push 20GB, fine. But over that, and the developers have clearly dropped the ball. Still, makes it more reasonable to spring for a larger SSD if you're going to run your games off that.

Mine was 16GB, which is pretty ridiculous when you consider that they are just very long text files. I was wondering where all my space had gone.

What.
How in the HELL can that happen? If I take a 204,000 character text, and save it as a .txt file, it is barely 200KB. That would equate to ~84,000 text files of that size to fill 16GB. If I make that 2.04 MILLION characters long, it barely pushes 2MB, which (funnily enough) is STILL about EIGHT THOUSAND text files to fill 16GB. O.o
So, either, there is 1) formatting, 2) the file format is heavyweight, 3) it's more than just text files, i.e. spreadsheet layout, or class structures to relate data, etc OR...you save a SHITLOAD of games!

No, they're just very long text files, but there's a lot of them. Individually mine ranged from 23 MB to 66 MB a piece, and I had about 170 of them (I did it today, that's how I remember ).
They're not .txt files though, which may be the issue. They're .ck2 files that open in Notepad.
