Wow, this is hard (thats what she said!)

Roland Deschain - Dark Tower

Harry Dresden - Dresden Files

Fiddler

Kelsier - Mistborn

Eddie Dean - Dark Tower

Also could have thrown in

Kalam or pretty much any damn character from this series.

Aspar White - Kingdom of Thorn and Bone

Oy or Jake - Dark Tower

Mat Cauthon

I have to make myself stop now.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

Top 5 Sci-Fi characters:

1. Luke "you ain't my father" Skywalker
2. Han "you bet your ass I shot first" Solo
3. Martin "I built an entire vocabulary out of seven swear words" Silenus
4. Jim "3 Mile Island everywhere" Gardener
5. Raul "Lions, and Tigers, and Bears, oh my!" Endymion.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

TOP 5 DRAGONS

y'know, this was harder than i thought... and i left out SE's soletaken dragons who are essentially humanoids that got a power-up...

Ellegon - Sarcastic. Telepathic. Fond of biting slavers' legs off, Joel Rosenberg's dragon is pure draconic fun.

Un-named dragon in the Deathgate series - Because Weis/Hickman gave him a particular obsession for a certain famous film spy-guy that is utterly funny even if it throws you out of the story every time it comes up.

Tiamat - the classic D&D villainess in all her Lady of Hell six headed goddess glory in every version of her out there she is THE prototype uber-evil-dragon.

Ferrovax - What can you say about Butcher's Dresden files dragon... well, not much because he's only appeared in like ten pages of the entire series. But without fail he DOMINATES those ten pages.

Silana - SE does a really nice job of keeping Silana both alien and familiar. She's a bit of a mystery and a force to be reckoned with and just a realy perfect example of the cool things a talented author can do with a dragon character.

'But Abyss, what about Smaug?' - Smaug SHOULD have been an excellent dragon, but his end point in THE HOBBIT is just plain weak.

I actually think Tolkien was inspired by folklore there. Because I'm sure i remember about a dragon who was invulnerable except for one part and got fucked by this ( and even if I'm wrong and there's no dragon there are still Achilles,, Sigfrid, etc).
Adept of Team Quick Ben

Smaug was a death star, basically.

I have to agree on Ferrovax. My brother's reading the series now and although he's only doing it very slowly, coz of work, he's been so gleefully excited by seeing more of the dragon I had to break and tell him he's not been back yet, just so that he doesn't get too disappointed when he finally gets onto it. >_>

I only have a couple of favourite characters.

I have to agree with whoever it was that picked Tehol and Bugg. Even though I'm (still) not finished with Midnight Tides they really are a pair of awesome characters.

Another two characters I'd like to mention are Malakai Makaisson, a crazed dwarf slayer engineer. The other is Snorri Nosebiter, another slayer "Good thing something broke Snorri's fall, now where is that bloody vampire?"
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

This varies a lot for me, but there's a few that are always in the frame.

Lujan - Empire series by Feist/Wurts
Banokles - Troy Series by Gemmel
Arakasi - Empire series by Feist/Wurts
The bloody Nine - the first law series byAbercrombie (say one thing about Logen nine fingers, say hes a c*nt)
Dancer - MBotF - Erikson

theres more hovering on the edge, but these are probably my favourite 5, arakasi could by replaced by Hartcraft from honoured enemy though.

non fantasy fiction, Richard Sharpe and Patrick Harper steal the show

Thread necrosis ahoy!
Made me curious to look back and see what's changed in 7 years.

As a top 5 favourite characters the list has changed a bit for me but anyone off the list is still floating g around d in my favourite character selection book.

Banokles is still there
The Bloody Nine is still there
Lujan is still there
Mr Wednesday - American gods
Druss

Dancer has slid out
Along with Arakasi. Dancer probably has dropped off further, I still love Arakasi

I believe you mean necromancy.

Necrosis is what happens to a thread after too much Bakkake.
