Myth

So did anyone here play the Myth games from Bungie? I only played Myth II Soulblighter and that a few years ago. I'm tempted to get my hands on it again but I have no idea if it works on windows 7.
If you can get it (and if it works) then I recommend it to anyone who loves RTS games. It might not be pretty now but what other game let's you paint the landscape in your enemies entrails as well as Myth - body parts, craters and blood being permanent features on the map. If you love the malazan sappers then this game will let you play around with them - as in dwarfs who throw molotov cocktails that go off like moranth munitions and then you get to watch body parts bouncing around. Sometimes they throw a dud which doesn't explode but is still there, so if something goes off nearby then that dud will also go up and make a bigger boom. God help you when you have a lot of dwarfs - after all, what can go wrong when they are all carrying munitions and satchel charges?
This was not an easy game (no base to build, just troops to command) so you have to take care of your guys but each mission was a different kind of awesome. You can look here for a play-through if you want to get an idea of the game.

Myth: The Fallen Lords
Myth 2: Soulblighter
Myth 3: Whatever it's name was. Durign Connachts time.
Myth: TFL is one of my favorite games ever. Played a ton online on Bungie.net against other people. Great early online gaming. King of the Hill and Body Count were my favorites. Highest rank was as a Prince, just below King and Emperor.
God I loved that game.
Myth 2 has it's ups as well, including playing with Trow and Heron Guards. All 3 are ridiculously hard.
The "Hero" missions are to die for. So much win.

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Awwwww I loved these games so so so much back in the day. last time I tried playing them was right after XP came out and there was much crying and gnashing of teeth when they failed to work in any way.
A quick look see says Myth 2 works on vista x64 with the latest patch, so it should work with Win7 too I'd expect.

I'll have to try. Reading about malazan sappers just got me in the mood to blow up a horde of thrall. That mission in the mountains were you had to buy time for that journeyman to dig up the Deceiver was the perfect defensive mission. Narrow passes to funnel the enemy? Check. High ground from which to rain down death? Check. Lots of archers and dwarfes? Check. Satchel charges set in the narrow passes for added fun? Check.
Ghast hunting in the first level was also fun. I set up my guys in a demolished house in the village and went hunting with the dwarf. Taking the Baron's castle is probably my favorite, followed by the one were you have to get Alric to a ship, Landing at Whitefalls (felt like medieval Normandy), the one were you have to keep the damn intact ... oh I could go on.
I never played in multi (I usually just play the single player campaign and ignore multi) but I recall someone saying that the game had a co-op capability. Did it allow you to play the single maps in co-op? In which I have to try and get my mates into this game.

Great game, though I never beat it myself. It has to go into my "stuff to do when I have time" list.
Of note is tha incredible similarity of the narrator, the narrator's perspective, the whole war and setting, to the Black Company. It's incredible. For me, that perspective that you are a small part of a tiny army facing impossible odds in a doomed world... it was half the game.

I couldn't get the first game to run on windows XP, never mind vista/windows 7. I did find this however. And I found the bug fix update that should make it work on vista/windows 7.
Also, I think Bungie admitted that the Black Company novels were used for inspiration.

This is just hilarious. And painfull. I imagine Fidler saw a lot of this in service to the Empire.
Balin is carrying signal grenades, which let's dwarfs in air balloons to know when it's time to drop satchel charges. When Balin get's killed, he drops the signal grenades which is why you see a bunch of satchel charges drop from on high.
