This looks surprisingly good

Is this a TV movie? The quality of the effects look quite high (Golems not so much).

Hmmm, indeed. Hopefully it will be good.

I like it. I wish they'd do a TV remake of Jingo. Or one involving the City Watch.

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

Although these things are generally poor, they should go for the Watch. Those books are all murder mysteries, and there's plenty of audience for that kind of thing these days.

If they were going to do Golems, they should really have done Feet of Clay -- still, IMO, Pratchett's best plot ever.

Didn't watch that one, because David Jason was a poor choice for Rincewind.

Hogfather was passable but unfunny, so overall not great.

I've seen it already, it's how I knew about it. My problem was, thought funny, I get the feeling that the books would make me chuckle/laugh/smile a lot more. I got the distinct impression that the descriptions in the books are extremely dry/sarcastic/usual english humor (which is good). Yeah, haven't read the books and considering the praise I'm sorely tempted. It's just that I already got a long list of books to read (and once TCG is out I'm gonna re-read the MBotF). Which books would be a good starting point? Consider also that I found Death very funny and what I heard about the Watch sounds interesting.

Traditionally I would always advise people to begin with the first book in a series. However, the first three books are Rincewind novels and poor (in comparison to others).

I would advise starting with either Mort (which has a lot of Death in it, but also if you ask me not that great), Wyrd Sisters (first proper Witches book) or Guards Guards (first proper Watch book).

I'd say, start with the omnibuses. Equal Rites is an excellent early Discworld book, though Granny Weatherwax is not fully realised as she is in Wyrd Sisters. I'm a particular fan of Sourcery, which is chronologically-speaking just after Mort.

In fact, you could do worse than starting with Equal Rites > Mort > Sourcery, and thence to the omnibuses. (Though Mort is the first book in the Death omnibus, which also features Reaper Man and Soul Music.)

With the recent news that the City Watch is getting an ongoing tv series...has anyone watched GOING POSTAL yet?

I didn't realize Angua was going to be in it. The Watch outfits were fun, plus Angua is hoooooot!

Yeah, it was quite good. If it's more like the Hogfather or Going Postal and less like Colour of Magic, it should be a very good series :)
