as a former member of the shadow temple, lostara might have recognized the 'stink' of shadow about it, or known that acorns and shadow are connected, though that one seems quite unlikely.

Hmmm that is a plausible explanation.... The stink of shadow bit... as far as i know acorns are not linked to shadow they are linked to Quick Ben who occasionally uses shadow but defo not of shadow

...but Delat/QB was a high priest of Shadow, no? And there is a special affinity there for Lostara...remember her gurl-krush on him and his "lovely, long-fingered hands" from her days as a Rashan acolyte? Cot reveals that the attraction was mutual: QB would have adopted her as a Bridgeburner.

Taking it maybe further than I should: I wonder if this early infatuation underlies Lostara's conflicted yet seemingly reflexive present-day attraction to Pearl, who is often physically described in similar terms of "an almost effeminate grace". The appearance of Delat's token thus creates an implicit triangle...and perhaps his imprint subconsciously spurs Lostara to knock out Pearl--his rival for her affections--on QB's behalf. Even though consciously she simply assumes the acorn is Cotillion's...

either that or it was an acorn?

Why would Cotillion be interested in an acorn? besides Lostara said it was shiny. ;)

If you follow the trail of passages, you learn that Lostara picked up a shiny object in the shape of an acorn. Lostara found it and gave it to Cotillion. Kalam had it "dropped" to his feet at the base of the oak tree and placed it in his belt. Kalam then threw the shiny object from his belt at the feet of Kamist Reloe's assasins. From that object, the shiny acorn, out popped Quick Ben.
