Makes me want to get a PS3 or X360... why oh why no PC version? :)

Couldn't find anything sadly. The official site only has the trailer and some basic, mostly useless info so far. So I'm guessing it'll be a while.
Anyway, would be a nice interlude waiting for the Warhammer 40k MMO (release date "set" for that is 2012, probably will get moved, as they always do)

but... but... gorram PS3.

its only on consoles because its a console version of dawn of war, and will therefore suck. Buy Chaos Rising* instead, it'll probably remain a much better game even with a year left for space marine to not suck. Plus: Mods.

* Which is actually a top shelf expansion pack, and worth getting regardless. and standalone too!

I was pissed off when I learned it wasn't made for PC.

I'm sure that a year or two after it's released they're going to do a half-assed port for PC and it's going to suck, much like the Force Unleashed.

Well, I am going to. But the 54,99€ DoWII + Chaos Rising cost are something for the next month. I'm kinda low on cash right now (damn them restaurants, really!)

Why do you think it will suck? It looks like it'll feature Space Marines, Orks and over-the-top third person action, which is something that no game has offered yet. Strategy games are all cool, but I'd love to at least give personally controlling a Space Marine a go.

all I can say to that is zoom in while playing dawn of war 2. Its very very very much like this game, but with small squads rather than just individual heroes. And chaos rising being standalone means that unless you really really want to play the original races (tyranids, SM, eldar or orks) in -online- MP, you can just get chaos rising and enjoy both SP campaigns and any skirmishes you want for half the price.

I only think it will suck because its for console only :) I'm sure I'll still get it, rental at least, but by the release of this (2011 right?), we'll be looking at at least a new expansion for DoW2, if not DoW3 for the end of the year.

And wait a sec. Chaos Rising gives BOTH SP campaigns? As in, the original one too? (just curious, 29,99 EU is still a bit much for this month anyway)

Not too sure, as they offer a gold edition on Steam containing both DoW2 and S:R for 54,99 iirc. I find it a tad bit hard to imagine that you'll just pay the extra 25,- for the chance to multiplayer online as Eldar, Marines, Orcs or Tyranids.

I'm divided about Chaos Rising. I know I'll enjoy it, but I find the 30 EU a tad bit much for just 1 race, one that never really caught my fancy, too. Also because they'll probably do a platinum version of the next expansion, containing both CR and Tau and/ or Imperial Guard in which you may be able to play as something other than SM in the campaign... a la the last 2 expansions of DoW1.

EDIT: I do agree with Jusen though, that it looks a lot like it is a dumbed down version of DoW2 with just 1 hero per weapon instead of a squad. Probably more actiony (in which case, pray they get the camera right), but less strategic. And DoW2 is a great combo of action and tactics as it is.

I dont think Dawn of war 2 requires any tactics at all. In fact the further you go in the game the less and less tactics you need. Use a flamer against tyranids? Your bolter does just as well. Use chainswords against meat and powersword against vehicles? Just go power all the time, you can kill any meat no problem you need the help against vehicles. Use cover? Put on terminator armour and you will walk through walls!

I feel that an eldar campaign would have been awesome. Im a little upset its only space marine. I think eldar would be the best option for a second campaign since they have a highly specialised warrior cult (I think that word fits) for almost every job but evrything is a glass cannon. Start with more squads, with more men but no reinforcments untill the mission ends. Use the right tool on the right job or die.

Also 30 euros? You guys are surely getting screwed. We always have higher costs than you guys, shipping and value added ax I guess but the expansion is going for R250 here. 25 euros or so.

Its actually quite replayable with SP, (but still maybe not worth 30$ on an hour-dollar ratio just for that) since you have the whole corrupt or pure thing, with exclusive gear, skills and librarian powers depending on how you decide, and all the new skills in the tree mean you can actually go with a non-standard squad (ranged assault marines, melee tacs, ect) and not be near-useless on anything but the easy difficulty.

edit: one of the major reasons the campaigns are SM oriented (when there is a defined story) is because the owners of 40k only let Relic have the Blood Ravens chapter to do with as they will (more or less) - though I guess that changed with 'Speess Marine', so other races probably won't be getting any plotted-campaign love.

missed this before: I have only chaos rising installed, (though I do own DoW 2 and it was installed, but I dont think that can matter cause the only files remaining are saves, configs and some assorted mod folders) and can play both the original campaign and chaos rising. Don't get all the new wargear or longer skill trees in the DoW2 campaign though, but it is there for anyone who doesn't own the first game. - I guess they figure no one is going to buy DoW 2 just to play SP at this date, so why not include the maps and campaign files (which are tiny), since 99% of the model resources are already packaged with chaos rising.

I actually think that an Imperial Guard campaign would be best seeing as how they're generally weaker than most other races and therefore more dependant on good tactics. But then again, I might be biased, I only need to turn my head to the left and there's my Imperial Guard army....
