Tay vs Hairlock: To be fair we hardly knew the puppet. How good was he? And are we talking normal Hairlock or chaos fuelled Hairlock?

Chaos fuelled Hairlock I think might have a chance, unaided, no.

No matter what I think Tay wins, he is scary strong. The only mortal mages I reckon could have won over Tay would have been Kelanved or post Iccy encounter Quick Ben.

Cowl vs Sormo: Very hard choice. Cowl we know a lot about. Able to compete with both Dancer and Tay, played hide and seek with Rake, fucked up Sillanah, was not scared at all by Osserc, guy is badass.

Sormo on the other hand is unknown. From what we see and hear he sounds scary enough, very knowledgable, supposedly powerful, but not really much of a combat mage.

I think vs a guy like Cowl, he dies. Quickly.

Silverfox vs KB&B: What kind of fight is this? If KB&B get to plan, pull out some anti-T'lan stuff, etc. they might have a chance but otherwise, no way in hell. Silverfox is magical freak. She's like a mortal god walking the earth. In a power struggle she'd crush them and she has the knowledge and skill of an Elder Goddess who played mortal battle mage for thousands of years... just for fun.

Ceda vs Beak: I'm uncertain. Pure Hold fight? I think the Ceda wins, not pure Holds, Beak could probably surprise the Ceda. But otherwise the Ceda was a scholar of magic. We only saw him use a Fulcra to channel magic, but I'm willing to bet he could beat Beak both in power and skill. Beak doesn't have the necessary nastiness to beat the Ceda, the Ceda on the other hand showed he was willing to destroy and entire race to protect the Letherii.

Warlock King vs Sinn: Warlock King definitely. Sinn is strong, but she is very young. The Warlock King on the other hand is not only strong and skilled, he is old and he can draw upon the CG.

Gothos vs Baruk: Poor Baruk. This wouldn't even be a fight. It would be a handwave or something and Baruk is a snowcone.

Pust vs L'oric: This one is uncertain. We don't know how strong L'oric is or what he is capable off. How much power did he inherit from Osserc? How good is he in a battle? He is a hundred thousand years old after all.

Pust on the other hand seems very, very skilled and BH demonstrated that he is a very capable battle mage.

Going on what we've seen, L'oric looks like pussy, so I bet Pust wins.

Quick vs Bottle: It's been foretold that Bottle is a dangerous mage, and he's demonstrated that he's very knowledgable, but currently I don't think anyone would argue that Bottle stands a chance. He's not even a real battle mage.

I wanted to see the Tanno Spirit Walker on that list. I think he's ascendant badass level strong.

A couple first round matchups I think are intriguing: Pust vs. L'oric, and Sormo vs. Cowl. Can L'oric veery? If so that would help a lot. If not, I think the matchup comes down to the wire, but Pust has all the intangibles to win it in the end. Or his mule will just kick L'oric in the head ftw whenever it wants. The 8/9 game was tough to pick, bigtime contrasting styles there. Warlock vs. Assassin-Mage. In the end I went with Sormo. Last time we saw him he was hamstrung by the Path of Hands and forced to use very old and basic earth magic. If he can survive the initial burst from Cowl (probably a knife to the back) then he'll prevail. Let's also note that while Cowl has been able to hang in there with some powerhouses, he's never been able to finish off the job and get the decisive victory. Those kind of lapses are what get you killed come tourney time. If you're looking for an upset go with the Warlock King as an 11 over Sinn as a 6. He was dueling the Ceda to almost a standstill when he was channeling the entire power of his cedance, some big power there. I think this is a disappointing bracket for some of the fans as the 12 and 13 seeds are fan favorites, that unfortunately got paired against some real powers. I'll definitely be tuning in to watch the 2/15 matchup as well. Do I think we'll see a huge upset? Absolutely not, but this is almost a mirror match with the unexplained elder knowledge these two have and the ability to use multiple warrens and the holds. I am already looking forward to the regional semis pitting QB against a woefully underseeded Gothos.

Tay vs Hairlock: Tay could very wll be the most powerful mortal mage in the series(although I still believe the Ceda was the best) and we have seen he can stand up to chaos. Voted Tay.

Sormo vs Cowl: Cowl wounded a dragon, could survive Rake and Dancer and is definetly a fighting mage. Sormo has done some cool things and it was hinted through all DG that he was truly powerful. But based on stuff from the boo, voted Cowl.

Silverfox vs B&KB: Look, as my forum name suggests I'm a great fan of the necromancers but really, Silverfox has the souls of three powerful mages in her, one being an EG, plus a connection with Tellan. So, voted Silverfox.

Beak vs the Ceda: This is a though one. Beak is incredibly powerful and is pretty inventive with his Warrens. The Ceda wields raw destructive magic which he has always used to great effect. Plus he is old, has experience nad has studied a lot. In the end, voted Kuru Qan.

Sinn vs Mosag: Sin has power but Mosag has power, chaotic magic directly connected to the CG and experience. Voted Mosag.

Gothos vs Baruk. No contest. Voted Gothos.

Iskaral Pust: L'oric has the son of Osric obviously has power, it's said to have been the most powerful of Shaik's mages and killled two T'lann Imass.However based on what we have seen in books, voted Pust.

Quick Ben vs Bottle: Bottle may have potential but I really believe he is overestimated. Anyway against QB he has no chance.

Not much drama during the first round of this region. Although we'll see if Bauchelain & Broach can come from behind for the win over the next 24 hours. Then should be getting some great matchups in Round 2!

Tay vs Hairlock: Tay, easily.
Sormo vs Cowl: Cowl's got some nice showy stuff, but Sormo and the other wickan mages from DG showed some amazing things, like hunting down demon-spirits, raising earth spirits, boosting thousands of horses, etc. Sormo's the cream of that crop so he's both powerful and diverse. Cowl's got some strength but its stuck in a minor range of applications. Voted Sormo
Silverfox vs B&KB: Yeah so Silverfox has SoCN in her, but so far she hasn't shown anything to compare with B&KB, who are absolutely stellar - chasing off K'Chain Che'malle, summoning absolutely any kind of demon, taking on gods in hand-to-hand combat, etc. B&KB take the cake in my opinion, though I'll bet reading the novellas makes a big difference for anyone's opinion in this regard.
Beak vs the Ceda: Beak can do a lot with his many warrens, and I'd probably rate him over a lot of mages, but Kuru Qan is also rather wise and has, I think, plenty of diversity as well in his magic, so I think he'll be able to match Beak in that regard and then have plenty more power to back it up than Beak.
Sinn vs Mosag: The most evenly matched duo in this poll, imo.
Gothos vs Baruk: Gothos, no contest.
Iskaral Pust vs L'oric: It's hard not to pick Pust, but even if he is the Magus of Shadow his only claim to fame is blasting Dejim Nebrahl a few times, but not even killing one of him. L'oric on the other hand does seem to accomplish a fair number of things few others do, like completely masking his presence in a camp full of other High Mages, or journeying through memory warrens.
Quick Ben vs Bottle: Bottle's animal mind-meld is pretty cool, but it's hard to contest with someone who knocked down 3 dragons.
