I was discussing the movie Saving Private Ryan with an old housemate once. This guy was doing a PhD in Neuroscience so ostensibly he was quite bright. The conversation went something like this

Him: You know that bit where they are crossing the river?
Me: Which bit is that?
Him: You know, that bit at the beginning where the army is crossing the river.
Me: The bit at the very beginning?
Him: Yeah, where they are in the boats and stuff
Me: You mean the D-Day Normandy beach landings?
Him: Errr....what's that?
Me: D-Day? Huge event in the 2nd world war, you might have heard about it once or twice
Him: Yeah, whatever ...... *continues some shit observation about the blood and guts and how cool it was*
