Those arms don't look much like swords, but still very cool. I'd have liked it even more if the other two Seguleh had been present on the sides.

I kinda like the k'chan's arm, they have a much more organic look than a lot of the other drawing that have been put up, and they suite the bulkiness of the Hunter.

Wow, great job, Dolmen! :p

The K'Chain really looks evil, I like his armour.
Great detail, as always, and I'm indeed envious of you background-skills...

So, happy birthday and my congratulations for this awesome pic! :D

Great stuff! Mok has that arrogant pose and Hunter looks more terryfing... and I agree that this organico-metallic sword looks more...believable:)

Belated birthday greetings Dolmen and sweet pic !

That K'Chain looks brutal !
Now all the friends that you knew in school they used to be so cool, now they just bore you.
Just look at em' now, already pullin' the plow. So quick to take to grain, like some old mule.

LOL @ Apt: I Knew you'd say that :D the truth is I practised a lil artistic licence with the swords (I thought it more realistic this way too). as for senu and therule I initially had them in the picture but it proved too busy. I feel its better this way.

@)MiMo:The backgrounds are murder! they take forever to do, I'm glad you noticed lol.

Thanks guys for all the birthday wishes!

Happy birthdays by the way.

Anyway, I can't remember if DOD mentioned something else, but the Swords aren't supposed to look realistic or natural. They seem to be grafted on to the arms of the Kell Hunters. I imagine it like a very big raptor with longswords for underarms. Covered in plate metal.

i feel a little guilty cuz its your bday and your giving us a gift, but i got nothin for you so i'll just say thanks for that pic man, its beautiful portrait of the scene. even with the little license you took on the k'chain, its still captures the moment pretty damn well.

happy birthday and kudos

very nice dolmen

awesome take on the hunter too.

To nitpick, you could use a bit more definition on the hunter's foreground elbow.

The whole part where you see the other sword arm behind the foreground sword-arm is a bit ill-defined.

Maybe a bit more highlighting on the foreground upper-arm would help set it apart from the background....not sure

It would also help to define the cool ropey muscle stuff you have going on there.

Wow

thats a very insightful point to detail. Thanks Cervez
I'll try give those elements more attention

@Apt: I'm very sure you're correct. I think I'll keep more to the quoted swords in my next
Pic  Thanks for your input.

@sombra and Sinisdar: Thanx :p

@Abyss: I hate you too buddy :p

No problem. I'm not an expert by any means but seems to me it would help.

I think I figured out my problem with that area. Its the color scheme of the arms overall vs. the far background. They all use the same colours, which is fine of course....but for the arms of the k'ell to stand out I think they just need a bit more definition.

Highlighting on the foreground arm would help a lot, and a hardening of the edges on both arms would help set it apart from the background. They're a bit fuzzy now, which I suspect is because of the brush you chose in Photoshop or whatever. The trick would be to harden them to the point of getting good definition without drawing a distinct black line and making it look cartooney.

There is a really good discussion in one of Onrack's threads (I think the one with the revised pic of Coltaine and the one with Trull, but not sure) on that issue, with links to another art forum with further excellent discussion and further links to tutorials on hardening edges and effective use of lighting. Very interesting reads all.

The main issue I had with this picture was trying to unify the colours, sadly in achieving this
I merged the colour of both arms too much. I'll take your words under close advisement
and will try contrast and define the images much further.

Again thanks Cerveza

Sweet.

Work hard on it. The pic and potential end result is waaay worth it.

Plus the practice will help a lot on future efforts.
