Okay Ever since I got a PS3 I have started to notice I have a problem. Coming so late to the game I was lucky in that the market is flooded with awesome games at second hand and discount prices. So I went a abit crazy. I bought dead space for R99 which is an amazing deal. Only played it for twenty minutes though. You see it was too good a price to pass up even though I still have 5 or so games I have not gotten round to playing yet. They were all at too good a price to pass up. Thing is even though I realise their is little point to buying more games untill I have played what I have I just cant help but looking for good deals.

I also in this past week realised that march is set to destoy my life. Tiberium Twilight, Dawn of war 2 choas rising, Final Fatasy XIII, God of war III and Batman Arkhym Asylym (I hear its one of the best games on PS3) are all coming out at once. Okay so I will probably just borrow Tiberium Twilight from a friend once he has finished it. I dont actually own Dawn of War 2, my friends computer just cant run it so it lives at my house. Since it is his and is on his steam account he will probably be the one to buy it. That leaves the last three. Final Fantasy (R600) is a must buy as far as I am concerned. I hear batman is amazing and the game of the year edition means the price (R450) is lower and the content greater. Apparently it comes with 3D glasses. Which sounds gimmicky but also very attractive. God of war III! Today I came across the god of war ultimate trilogy collection for R1250. It has god of war 1, 2 and 3 included. A replica of pandoras box, an art book, the soundtrack of all the games and free dlc. Actually sounds rather attractive. GoW III will be R600 on its own and the god of war collection including GoW I + II is about R500. So its not that bad a deal it sounds like. Still seems alot of money to dish out at once. (can someone who has played them tell me the game length of GoW I + II )

So if your already shaking your head, I wish I was finished. Im seriously looking to grab some of the following.

Ratchet And clank-Hear its an awesome game
Demon souls-Forum Recommended
Uncharted drakes fortune-Forum Recommended
Uncharted 2-Forum Recommended
Super stardust HD-Best indie game Ihear
Dragon age origins-Forum Recommended
Metal gear solid 4-Apparenlty one of th best PS3 games out there
Dark siders-Sounds awesome
The force unleashed -Any good?
Bionic Commando- Looks good
Red Faction: Guerrilla- Really cheap, any good?
Infamous-I think Raymond told me to stay away from infamous and prototype. Or he might have been saying only play one or the other. I forget
End War-Its cheap and I want to like it. I like RTSs. Is it worth it without voice command? I dont have a headset?
Army of Two: The 40th Day-Looks good, Ill wait for it to be second hand.

So please do me a facour. Talk some sense into me. Tell me whats not worth bothering with. Do an intervention. Or if you want to see me bankrupt myself suggest other games to add to my list (Whats fun to play socially).

Already own
Fallout 3
Moder Warfare 2
Devil MAY CRY 4
killzone 2
Dark Sector
Brothers in arms Hells Highway
Little big planet
Heavenly Motor Storm Pacific rift
Dead space
Resistance 2

Also it woould be a comfort to know Im not alone battling this terrible disease

NEither Army of Two game is worth buying at full cost, especially if you don't have a friend to play the other character with you at all times.

The Force Unleashed was a good, fun, star wars game. Not the best ever, but tearing through somewhat destructable environements with force powers is fun if you are into that kind of thing.

I don't remember how long GoW 1 was, never played 2, but they are very good, fun games.

Is this the new final fantasy you are talking about, the one completely on rails with no leeway or towns or anything? I am probably going to pass on that one myself.

If you need to save cash, I would get:
Demons Souls (long and hard, just the way nubentanktantkantkantkanta likes her video games)
and
Dragon Age: Origins.

Those two have the most 'length' and/or replay value to them, except for FF13.

Both Uncharted games, although great, were only 10 hours long in single player, and you already have some amazing multiplayer games.

I never played or even thought about playing Tom Clancy's 'End War'.

I suggest you look up each game on gamespy, gamespot, and ign to see if they are what you are into and what scores they were given.
Monster Hunter World Iceborne: It's like hunting monsters, but on crack, but the monsters are also on crack.

First and most importantly, God of war 1 and 2 are glorious. So buy. Worth $50 US, definitely worth whatever double-pack discount awesome price you can get. (unless for some fucked reason they wont work on your PS3)

My take on the list:
Ratchet And clank-Hear its an awesome game Worth it, maybe not worth full price
Demon souls-Forum Recommended Well apparently, since Oldicock says so, its wonnnnnnderful :p (prolly worth a play though)
Uncharted drakes fortune-Forum Recommended Definitely
Uncharted 2-Forum Recommended Definitely
Dragon age origins-Forum Recommended If you don't have it yet, might as well wait to get it -for PC ONLY - and get a bundle with the expansion pack and dlc included, march isn't too far away.
Metal gear solid 4-Apparenlty one of th best PS3 games out there Doubleplus buy
Dark siders-Sounds awesome Sounds like it, doesn't it. Where oh were did it go wrong?
The force unleashed -Any good? Rent or get 2nd hand... its kinda short, and when you've got a list of better games that need playing...
Bionic Commando- Looks good Nice throwback for nostalgia's sake (i.e. the 80s) kinda fun... maybe 6hrs to beat though? Rent if you can pass if you can't get it cheap.
Red Faction: Guerrilla- Really cheap, any good? Fun, more fun if you skip the stupid 'drive car across mars because likes... you can' side missions.
Infamous-I think Raymond told me to stay away from infamous and prototype. Or he might have been saying only play one or the other. I forget I liked it, and also liked Prototype, so what do I know?
End War-Its cheap and I want to like it. I like RTSs. Is it worth it without voice command? I dont have a headset? Avoid. Seriously. Big on promise, so very low on execution. Buy/Acquire World in Conflict for PC if you have an itch for a modern war RTS, its much better in single and multi.

Can you rent stuff in SA? With the volume of worth at least playing, seems like it'd be a much cheaper way to get stuff unless you have as little of a life as me and spend 5-10 hours a day fucking around on the computer/console/tv. God I need to do something.

also: 3d glasses require a display that supports steroscopy. If you didn't pay $2-3000 for your tv or monitor, its not going to do anything for you.

PS: I, Jusentantaka, Queen Majesty of the Interwebs, do solemnly and most resolutely swear upon my sex life and all things related to it, that I shall rent Demons Souls upon my return from BRAZIL BITCHEEEES, just so it shall make Oldbigore happy.

Multiplayer is not really an option for me. South Africa while the brightest light on the dark continent is still in the dark ages of the internet. I have a 5GB cap which I already, without any online gaming, often exceed each month. I remeber someone on this forum bitching about his 10GB cap. My head nearly :p .

I have looked at the games rankings. All of them are ranked good to very hihly. I still prefer to hear 'reviews' from average people. Game designers are often a bit elitist in the way they think, If I can use that word. Soundtrack, graphics, originality of sotry or concept etc etc all great but how does it play is all that I really want to hear.

End War for example gets good reviews, I would love an RTS that is good on console. However I would like to hear from someone who has played it. Is it a real RTS. Also every reviewer focuses on how it can use voice commands. I dont have a headset. Is the game still playable without, is it still fun? Niether Wiki, reviewers or the game seems to discuss the possibility that someone wont play it without voice command

Ok, End War, Juju style. The voice recognition is absolute dildos. I use dragonspeech regularly (though not right now, its pissing me off having to spell things) and I never have problems getting it to pick up what I'm saying - rented that game, and at absolutely the wrong moments it 'decides' that it is unable to recognize what you're saying. Add in that the gameplay is as rock-paper-scissors (Tanks-Helicopters-APCs, in that order) as you can get and its just boring and repetitive. World in Conflict nukes the hell out of it, no contest. The voice command/recognition, even when it works fine doesn't transmogrify the game's system out of mediocrity. This game and its reviews are one of the reasons, oh mr. obi, that I don't trust anything that most IGN/Gamespot reviewers say. complain left and right about the features and its mediocrity, and then in the end, give it an 80. The fucks?

ps. if you buy the game, you get a cheapo mic included.

Also: way better to check out the metacritic average for games. This one has about 60 separate critic-reviews, the last half painting a much different picture than the top ones. Though, as usual, the Eurogamer score can be tossed, unless you're like me and think that '5/10' means 'average' (where I of course put Deer Hunter MMXCVIIL at O, and MW2 Titanium/Jetpacks and discs of exploding blue awesome (version 1)/Throne of Bhaal at 10. Rather than the IGN/et al system of '5/10 = abysmal waste of time, space and oxygen'

Played world in conflict. Borrowed from a friend. It was fun. Struck me as old school in concept. I disliked the reliance on fire support that so often seemed to take over the game. How many times would the soviets really send tank battalions over the same open ground once they knwo my artillery, navy and airforce have the co-ordinates zeroed in?

Well Juts (I honestly have no idea how to pronouce spell your screen name) you seem to have destroyed quite a bit of my list. Thank you. I can get bionic commando cheapish but for 6 hours game play, no thank you. I really wonder why game reviews so often overlook this important aspect. Also never considered the problem of the T.V. I dont even have High def :p A working on the parents though.

Speaking of renting. (I do do stuff, Im doing my masters but I have never understood those people who bitch about how they have no time for anthing.) I saw an awesome add in my favourite game store. Apparently they run a service where for R100 a month (A sixth of the price of a new game for comparison. It seems alot, but its also the price of two movie tickets, so maybe not so bad) you can rent a game and keep it till your finished and than swop in for a new one. Im still hesistant though. How many people must be on this service and asking for the same popular game titles. How long is the waiting list. Perhpas I can email them and find out. I think I will. Thing is I also get pleasure out of owning things. Will I ever read half my library of books again? Probably not but I love seeing them on my shelf. Still the more I think about it, instead of bying bionic commando for R250 I could play 8 games over two and half months.

Edit-I saw a bundle years ago that included a mic but I dont think the ones I have seen lately do. At R180 for the game it would be a damn cheap mic.

Whats the cost of a new game in dollars? In SA its R600 for new PS3 games. Thats 78$ Which now that I look at it sounds crazy. Has the dollar weakened recently?

Darksiders was alright. You play as Link the second Horseman of the Apocalypse as you explore dungeons a post-apocalyptic city where you get the compasshoardseeker(that shows you chest locations) and maps that reveal the dungeon to you and items that help you progess through each dungeon traverse the world and defeat dungeon bosses Chosen who guard the gate to Ganondorf's Castle the Black Throne so you can destroy the Destroyer.

Hopefully you catch my drift.

TLDR version: Do what Obdi says.

Husentantkantkantaktnaktnatknatkantaktnaktna will and she will be happier for it.

PS - Nubentakna , the only reason i do not currently have demons souls is because I do not have a lol3, nor any desire (beyond this one game) to get one. Is White Knight Chronicles amazing? maybe I will get a ps3 when they are under 200$ (american).

Like I said, most of those games are quite short (average single player for shooter/adventure seems to be only 8-10 hours now. I'm not paying that much for that little if I can help it) and that is why I suggested the two I did.
Monster Hunter World Iceborne: It's like hunting monsters, but on crack, but the monsters are also on crack.

Ratchet And clank-Hear its an awesome game - From what I've seen it looks really good, I'd buy it: Quick Look
Demon souls-Forum Recommended - I don't know about this game. It has the reputation of a game you need to cut your teeth on, but from what I've heard it also sounds frustrating and downright annoying at times because of the ridiculous difficulty. I'd rent it or something first.
Uncharted drakes fortune-Forum Recommended - I'd buy it. A must play
Uncharted 2-Forum Recommended - I'd buy it. A must play
Super stardust HD-Best indie game Ihear - Never heard of it
Dragon age origins-Forum Recommended - Personally I'd wait for the GOTY edition, especially with these new expansion being released.
Metal gear solid 4 - Apparenlty one of th best PS3 games out there - I've only ever played the first one on the PSX. I dream of playing 2, 3 and 4 in a row. I hear the story is amazing, if convoluted.
Dark siders-Sounds awesome - Legend of Zelda on steroids? Yes please!
The force unleashed -Any good? - It's getting old. From what I've heard it's an interesting game, a must buy if you're a SW fan, but it also has problems with graphics and controls.
Bionic Commando- Looks good - No idea.
Red Faction: Guerrilla- Really cheap, any good? - Just completed it last week. It is AWESOME! Never mind the weak story and poor car handling. This game is about destruction and man is it fun.
Infamous - I think Raymond told me to stay away from infamous and prototype. Or he might have been saying only play one or the other. I forget - From what I understand they are much the same gameplay wise, but Infamous is the better game. Both are good, Yatzee really liked Infamous and didn't mind Prototype. If you I had the cash I'd buy both.
End War-Its cheap and I want to like it. I like RTSs. Is it worth it without voice command? I dont have a headset? - My impression is that it is bad.
Army of Two: The 40th Day-Looks good, Ill wait for it to be second hand. - All though the first one got a lot of flak, I really like the concept of this game. If you have some co-op friends who like to shoot stuff it's a must by, if you're a single player I'd still want to try it out.

So please do me a facour. Talk some sense into me. Tell me whats not worth bothering with. Do an intervention. Or if you want to see me bankrupt myself suggest other games to add to my list (Whats fun to play socially).

Above is my suggestions in red.

Thats why I have yet to pay full price for anything. Will do for FF13 I think. Am tempted to do so for God of war 3. But ...

I suppose we will see how many student Gaming bursaries I get before march.

Apt you bought all that on steam? or is the list a seperate point?

True, very true. Less offensive than the End War gameplay to me though. Also, 80's military doctrine from the US side said that that is what the soviets would do. *eye rolly icon is needed*

wow. US retail is 49.99 for a PC game, 59.99 for 360 or PS3. For 78 bucks that's almost 'buy from amazon and suck it up for the shipping if you have a bank to reimburse you for the currency conversion'

& to the mic bit, yeah, it is a really cheap one, no getting around it. (to be fully honest, I played it on 360 with the mic that comes with the system, PS3 might have better luck on the voice-control since its more powerful on the processing end... game's still gonna be the same though) & a stereoscopic tv is great... (Duty free? 20% off? God bless the american armed forces) but a little useless, since there isn't much to do with one yet, except watch avatar on bluray or play a handful of games whose support of it doesn't add much to the experience.

In addition: Apt knows his nerd shit. Damn. (And you should get Call of Pripyat if you've got a DX 10 or 11 video card... gloriously nice night effects (Crysis killer if the day shaders weren't a bit fucked) and most of the bugs are gone)

That is all over the course of 2 months. My game list on Steam is probably twice as long as this.

Seriously, Steam sales are worse than crack. You'll end up buying stuff you already own, just because you feel like owning a digital copy and you want to add it to your list of games, much like books standing on your book rack.

At least you have a phoneline, telkom says I might get one "sometime in the next year or two" :( So 1GB of ridiculously expensive 3G is all I've got. Check out Axxess, they have a decent deal on uncapped, plus there's a bunch of ISPs that have dropped their prices to around R20/GB, WebAfrica being one of them. Extra R100 bucks a month and you can double your cap. Unless you made the big mistake of getting a 24 month contract from somewhere...

Hey Alt. Do you know what the story with amazon is? I seem to recall hearing they wont ship to South Africa anymore? It might acually be worth ordering games from them otherwise. Than again the delivery fee did seem expensive.

No idea - I got DoD from amazon.co.uk, but I havent used them since. Unless you want something right-damn-now, or you're buying a large number of items; it's generally not worth the shipping. Exclusive normally has books pretty soon after they are released, and BT Games and a couple of other places normally get games pretty quickly too, all for a little less than what it would cost to get them from overseas.

BT games always seems to match or beat take2s game price. Still after looking at amazon if you dont factor in shipping games in dollars or pounds terms are very much cheaper than what we pay over hear. By about R200, can it really be that much to ship a small case over the ocean? I suppose it might.

Alt never buy from incredible connections again. WWW.TAKE2.CO.ZA its half the price at least!

Oh and whats peoples experience with batman arkhym asylum. As cool as I have heard?

Arkham Asylum was pretty fun. Kind of short-ish, but probably the best batman video game ever made.
Monster Hunter World Iceborne: It's like hunting monsters, but on crack, but the monsters are also on crack.

Prototype and Infamous were ok. They were pretty much the same game, sandbox worlds that exist for you to kill a bunch of randoms with your powers. Meh. I wouldn't buy either, certainly not both. I'd rent or buy used if you have to. If you want to electrocute people buy Infamous. If you want to stab them with your arm swords, get Prototype.

Here is an excellent review of Prototype, and here is an even better review of Red Faction: Guerilla, with bonus song! The song gives you an appropriate idea of what you can do ingame. It's called Space Asshole.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.
