I actually enjoyed the cliffhangery-ness of the 1.0 finale back in March, and I think I have liked the show since the second episode really. Hell, "Gravedancing" (episode 4 I think?) really impressed the hell out of me, as did "There Is Another Sky" where Tamara shows up and begins to realize she has power in V-World as she can't die.
MINOR SPOILERS below...
I have watched the first two epsiodes of 1.5 so far and I love where it is going actually. The first ep of 1.5 had all that fun stuff going on in those ancient looking monasteries on the cliff by the ocean on Gemenon and Eric Stolz himself directed it...with quite a deft hand. Lacey & Clarice's (and by extension Barnabus [James Marsters]) plotlines are kind of meant to be slow....by their very nature actually. I mean, we all know the Cylon's of the future are devout believers in One True God, so their storyline is going to be a slow build towards the two plotlines melding. I don't mind it, and I don't hate Lacey....on the other hand I LIKE Lacey....I just think she needs to grow some balls...and she will, give her time. Clarice does kind of annoy me...but to be honest I feel it is the actress I don't like.
I find myself, more often than not, siding with the Graystone's surprisingly enough....the Adama's, particularly Joseph come across as petty and childish. That's aside from Tamara, who I kind of think is going to become super badass in the future. William is an absolute WIMP and has no personality at all...how he grows up to be Admiral Adama the hero is effing beyond me at this point. Sam is at least interesting, but he kind of perpetuates the hired thug/goon mentality and needs to break that shell to become more interesting. what these writers know how to do is drive their protagonists to make decisions that are tough. I love that.
...and I LOVE Zoe Graystone. Love her. Alessandra Torresani plays her perfectly IMHO. I don't even see her as evil (as I am sure we are meant to). I see her more as confused, angsty and ultimately betrayed at every intersection (ie. Her Father cares about her but is SO driven to accomplish saving his company that he will do anything to have her respond that she's in the Cylon body and justify his work, Lacey doesn't do enough to help Zoe accomplish getting out of the lab and offworld because she is too scared of the new company she keeps [ie. Soldier Of The One], Her mother brands her a terrorist publicly even though she didn't bomb the MagLev, and finally Philomen, in an act that I can't even understand given his admiration of the Cylon, betrays her by hitting a security breach [and I'm glad the little shit is dead now]). So the girl has every right to be pissed IMNSHO, and when she shows back up in the first ep of 1.5 "Unvanquished" I was cheering....especially because she realizes her status as another "deadwalker" in V-World who cant die...not to mention her Neo-esque anomaly-style powers being able to manipulate that thug at the end.....oh, and the samurai sword? SEXXXXY!
It will be nice to see where they take this show. They've made a decent beginning, that is ultimately very watchable, but I think we'll see much more interesting things happen later on in the series. I want to see what happens when the first production line Cylons roll off the line and what happens when Zoe gets her little controlling fingers on them.
Probably one of the shows I most look forward to each week.
As for this new show they are talking about doing BATTLESTAR: BLOOD & CHROME which will take place during the First Cylon War and shows Adama as a young Viper pilot.....we SAW this in those webisodes and Razor and it wasn't ALL that interesting. I don';t know what they are thinking. CAPRICA is interesting because it is a family dynasty drama that tells us a very unknown story of the beginnings of the Cylons....while BLOOD & CHROME would only stand to tell us a story that is far too close to the time of the BSG series...and it's something we saw a lot of already in the Second Cylon War of the TV series. what new things could they reveal? Come on SyFy, get your head out of your ass, BLOOD & CHROME will be redundant and won't fly, watch.
