Hi. I didn't know where to put this, but I've had some crazy theories on the Crippled God baring in mind I haven't finished Bonehunters yet, I'm up to the
Spoiler

So to my theories on Jade Giants and their connection to the Crippled God.

Theory one. They're the Crippled Gods original followers and are coming to find their missing God.

Theory two. This one came after I read a DUST OF DREAMS spoiler
Spoiler

I know it's bare and just clutching at straws and probably disproved in later book, but I like them.

I think you should edit out

Spoiler
.

This is not BH info. Just because you were subjected to a minor spoiler doesn't mean other readers need to be exposed.

But it's an interesting theory, I don't recall anyone ever comparing him with the Jade Giants. How ever, there not been any suggestions they are connected either. The Crippled God seemed to be made out of flesh and the Jade Giants have not been described as either sentient or having any form of working bodyfunctions, let alone feeling.

EDIT: Abyss just raped vastly improved, clarified, strengthened and saved this thread and possibly the universe... where the hell is this sub forum? It's like the thread is in limbo.

It's as good a theory as anything else i've read concerning those pesky green buggers. I'm pretty sure it says somewhere that the CG's body was in bits when it came down, maybe it was "shattered" as opposed to dismembered, but then you have the problem of the Ravens (Crone et al) and the "flesh" they were spawned from.

I like the idea of the Jade hand in Deadhouse Gates belonging to the CG, it certainly makes Heboric's relationship to the CG more interesting. But i'm not convinced as it doesn't tie in with his vision/prophecy thing in the prologue of DOD.

I thought it was pretty much understood that the multitude of souls in the Jade Giants were followers of the Crippled God, trying to find him. Well, that's what I believe anyway.

I remember that the statues were filled with souls...but where was the Crippled God connection? In that same part with Heboric, or is it meant to be inferred based on another part of the series?

This is the connection between them.

Quote

As he swung round, he saw—
—and cried out.
A cry that made no sound.
A vast - impossibly vast - red-limned wound cut across the blackness, suppurating flames along its ragged edges. Grey storms of chaos spiralled out in lancing tendrils.
And the giants descended into its maw. One after another. To vanish. Revelation
filled his mind.
Thus, the Crippled God was brought down to our world. Through this… this terrible
puncture. And these giants… follow. Like an army behind its commander.
Or an army in pursuit.

Refutable since Heboric qualifies it with 'like', and is an imperfect observer. He knows nothing of the origins of both, or the nature of the Jade (at least at the moment). The only connection here could be that the giants coming through are a byproduct of the rent itself. The Crippled God is not necessarily concerned with justice, and those within the Jade never mention the Crippled God. Still, it's an attractive theory - the Crippled God could be this 'master behind the Jade'.

And that would be it, except that in that same section in HoC, Heboric falls into the Jade chunk and there is dialogue from the souls... and it appears they aren't even from the same world, let alone one belief system. One even makes the point along the lines of "We killed all our gods!".

It does appear that the Jade chunks are falling through the rift opened when the CG was pulled through.

Despite the 'other worlds' part, i can't help but wonder if followers in his own world are sending sacrificial souls through. Or perhaps it's just a form of worship unrelated to him, but based around the rift. Souls close rifts. Maybe someone is trying to close the rift by pitching souls into it and the jade statues crashing on the Malaz worlds is just an unforseen consequence.

There also seems to be an increase in numbers of Jade chunks. we know one statue, possibly more, landed on Otataral Island. we could guess another one is somewhere under the Teblor lands on the Laerdon Plateau. But now we have the almost-impacts in TB, the moon, and the coasting chunks in DoD. Something is building.

- Abyss, could say someone is blowing chunks...

but the jade and the CG are connected. Remember Baruk traps that entity from the CG's home world? the one who is meditating and Baruk calls a very spiritual individual. that entity was glowing with a jade light and had jade eyes iirc. i think it happens in TtH. will look up quotes when i get home.

Faith seems to build power for a God, e.g. sacrifices to/in the sea for Mael. Imagine the effect of the potential huge number of believers in those statues. Then again, I agree that the souls might not be CG believers at all.

Here's a quote :-
Spoiler

It's not definitive that it's from the Jade Giant statues, but I think the resemblance is close enough.

Quite right, Abyss

It's been so long since I reread HoC, I had completely forgotten that bit. I still think the statues are connected to The crippled God in some way - perhaps, as someone else said, they're sacrifices?

I guess we'll find out one way or another in the last book :D
