PLEASE NOTE 2: It is very important that you understand the mechanics of the card game. EVEN IF YOU NORMALLY SKIP READING THE RULES, make sure that you have at least read and understood the section labelled Method of Play.
EDIT: With 16 players, an extra Place Swap card is added to the deck.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Setting:
At The Great Table, weekly card games are held around the ginormous card table in the basement. The games are unusual and high-stakes, the players ambitious and thrill seeking. However, for the Master of the establishment, they aren't thrilling enough. In tonight's game, he has decided to up the stakes further by killing off some of the players!
Basic Rules:
(Despite the fact that this game is supposed to take place over the course of an evening, I'm going to stick with the terminology of Days and Nights for simplicity)
30 hour days
2 hour nights
The moderators reserve the right to extend night if necessary.
This game will be alted.
Coroner Finder is in effect. It will provide the name of the player and whether they were of the House or just a Card Player.
Victory Conditions:
The House wins when they achieve a majority.
The Players win when The House can no longer kill.
The Card Game:
The idea behind this game is loosely based on the card game Citadels. This card game uses a special set of cards. On each one is an ability - if you end up with that card, then you will be able to use that ability the following night. Every day the deck will be passed clockwise around the table (starting with the player who held the King card in the previous round), each player taking it in turn to remove one of the remaining cards from the pack.
Seating Arrangements:
You will all be seated around the Giant, Circular Card Table. (You are assigned a seat randomly at the beginning of the game) The lighting is such that you can only see the players sitting to your left and right - each player will be told who their neighbours are every morning (since movement is possible during the nights)
The person who gets to choose their card first on Day 1 will be chosen randomly after the seats have been assigned. After that, the player that holds the King card will be the first to choose their card. If no-one holds the King or the King was guarded the night before, then the Consort will choose first. If noone holds the Consort of the Consort was guarded the night before, a player will be selected at random. After that the deck is passed round the table in a clockwise direction.
The Deck:
The pack contains the following cards: (Note: The number of cards in play will vary depending on the number of signups. You will be clearly informed of any changes.)
King x1 - You are roleless for today, but to make up for this, you will be the first to choose a card the following day. If an apprentice chooses this card, they must use it, and do not get the option to kill.
Consort x1 - You are told which player holds the King card, and how many places to your right he is sitting. If no-one holds the King card, then you will choose first the following day. If an apprentice chooses this card, they must use it, and do not get the option to kill.
Vigilante x1 - You may kill one player at night. This card has two shots of usage. If both have been used, you will be roleless. You will not know how many shots the card has left until you've chosen it. If you are guarded while you hold this card and attempt to use your ability, you will not waste one of the shots. However, you will not receive confirmation that you were guarded. While the members of the House may choose this card, they cannot use it.
Thief x1 - You steal the card of one of the other players. You will be able to use that card's ability that night. The player you steal the card from will essentially be roleless, but he will not find out that his card has been stolen until after night has ended (when he will be informed that when he came to use his card, he found it gone). However, if you steal the Bomber card, you will die. Note that you will be prompted to make a decision as soon as the cards have been dealt, since you need to know what ability is at your disposal as soon as possible.
Bomber x1 - While you hold this card, you are roleless. However, should the Thief attempt to steal your card, he will die. If an apprentice chooses this card, they must use it, and do not get the option to kill.
Guard x1 - You can guard a player for the night. They will not know that they have been guarded. This will be effective both against card roles and attempts by the house to kill, with the exception of the Thief and Bomber roles.
Mayor x1 - Choose a player, and a player for them to target. Regardless of the vote cast by the first player during the day, their vote will be counted as if they were voting for the target you assigned them. They will not be told, nor will their true vote appear in the vote count.
Role Finder x1 - Choose a player, and you will be told which card they hold that night. If you are guarded, you will be told that the player did not have a card (You will also be told this if you target a player whose card has been stolen, or who did not submit a list of cards).
Card Finder x1 - Choose a card, and you will be told which player holds that card that night. If you are guarded, you will be told that the card is not in play (You will also be told this if you try to find a card that no-one has chosen).
Target Finder x1 - Choose a player, and you will be told who they targetted that night (though you will not be told what their action was). If you are guarded, you will be told that they targetted nobody (You will also be told this if they did not target anybody).
Socialite x1 - Choose two players (you cannot choose yourself), and they will switch places. You will find out who sits on the left of one of the players, and who sits on the right of the other after you have made the swap (you may specify which is which). If you are guarded, you will be told that they sit to the left and right of each other, even if this is not true.
Healer x1 - Choose a player, and someone tries to kill that player, they will fail.
Lover x2 - You can communicate off-thread with the other player holding a Lover card from the moment you are given a thread on which to do so (which will be as soon as the cards are dealt). If you are guarded, you will be told that no-one chose the other lover card (You will also be told this if no-one chose the other lover card). Your fellow lover is a jealous type, so if you are the apprentice, you will only be able to slip one message to your partner for the duration of the day.
Place Swap x2 - You can switch seats with one other player of your choice.
Method of Play
Now, obviously this will be difficult to coordinate. Here's how it's going to work:
Every morning, you need to submit a list to me in the conversation thread provided, ranking the cards in the order you would take them.
For example:
Vigilante
Place Swap
Card Finder
Socialite
Healer
King
Mayor
Lover
Target Finder
Guard
Thief
Bomber
Consort
Role Finder
If I submit the following list, then when the deck comes round to me, I get the Highest Available Card on my list. So if the Vigilante was available, I'd get that, and if it wasn't, I'd get the Place Swap if it was available, and so on. As soon as you receive your card, you will be made aware of your choice. This will be your action for the following night. Hopefully, the long days will ensure that everyone has time to find out their action and then submit a provisional for the night.
Now, if you want to make a more complicated provisional than that, you are welcome to, provided it only relies on what cards are available when the deck gets around to you. So you might pick a Lover card higher if there is only one left in the deck (ie. one had already been taken), for example. However, that is optional. The list of roles is a minimum, though.
PLEASE NOTE: It's very important that you submit one of these lists as soon as possible every morning (or even a provisional the night before). As a way of forcing you to do this, any votes you cast during the day will not be registered unless you've already submitted a list for that day. If you do not submit a list, you will not be dealt a card. If you want a specific ordering unless stated otherwise, you must make that explicitly clear.
Order of Play
During the Day:
-Cards are Dealt
-Steal
During the Night:
-Guard
-Find
-Swap
-Kill
-Heal
Players:
Role Distribution:
NOTE: This may be subject to change depending on the number of players in the game. You will be informed of any changes.
1 Master of the House
2 Apprentices
13 Card Players
PMs:
Card Player:
You are a regular at the Great Table. You came expecting high stakes, but little did you know when you sat down just how high they are here.
Upon death, you will CF as Card Player
Every night, you will be able to perform an action based on the card you receive. Make sure you remember to submit a request for cards every morning, or you'll find yourself without a night action. And that would be a waste.
PLEASE SUBMIT ALL ACTIONS IN THE THREAD PROVIDED. ALL OTHERS WILL BE IGNORED.
To your left sits XXXX
To your right sits XXXX
Play will be in a clockwise direction (ie. The player to your right will pick before you, the player to your left after).
Master of the House:
There's fresh meat at the Great Table! You run the weekly games, but recently you've decided it's not enough to play for money. There needs to be some extra spice to the proceedings!
You know you've got some minions working for you, but you can't for the life you remember who they are.
Upon death, you will CF as Master of the House
Every night, in addition to the abilities granted by your card, you may kill one other player. Make sure you remember to submit a request for cards every morning, or you'll find yourself with just the one night action.
Apprentice:
It's hard working for the master - sometimes it's as though he doesn't even know who you are! He certainly wouldn't be able to pick you out of a lineup. Still, musn't grumble. The master wanted high stakes tonight, so you and your co-worker will have to help out!
Upon death, you will CF as Card Player
Your co-worker is XXXX. You may talk off thread at all times, except when one of you holds the Lover card. If you hold the lover card, you are limited to one message to your partner in the period of a day.
Your master is XXXX. He doesn't know who you are.
Every night, you must decide either to kill (you get one kill between you), or to use the abilities granted by your cards. Make sure you remember to submit a list of cards in the morning, or you will not have a choice to make, and that would be a waste.
PLEASE SUBMIT ALL ACTIONS IN THE THREAD PROVIDED. ALL OTHERS WILL BE IGNORED.
If you decide to kill, you must both submit a kill action in your action thread. If you submit different targets, the kill will not succeed.
If one of you is guarded, your kill will fail. If one of you is dead, the surviving apprentice loses his killing ability.
To your left sits XXXX
To your right sits XXXX
Play will be in a clockwise direction (ie. The player to your right will pick before you, the player to your left after).
