I've lurked this forum a lot in the past, started the series sometime in '09. Finished the first 8, now re reading them all before tackling 9/10.
I guess a bit more about me is I'm going for a computer science major (1.5 years to go wooo!) and I love most music, motorcycles and long walks on the beach, in the rain.

I had a computer science major for a roommate in college. Clickity clack, clickity clack...all night long typing away on the programming assignment, or whatever. Because he wasted all day playing Castle Wolfenstein. How am I supposed to get my beauty rest?

What are your opinions on fiat currencies, the Illuminati, the end of the world as we know it, and survivalist culture?

Don't know if this was for me but i'll reply anyway.

I'd prefer trading to Fiat currency but it would just revert to Fiat currency again so..
The illuminati are still a viable concept! in my mind... Dunno..
The end of the world as we know it? I can't wait..
And i'd rather not comment on the last one..

A friend and co-worker who also likes to read allot highly recommended this series, so I went out and bought the first 3 books. Gardens on the moon was neat but did not blow me away. I probably would have walked away except for I had bought the next two books so I kept going. Dead House gates hooked me, and Memories of Ice made me lose my mind. I think the publisher should package the first 3 books together in a "cheap break even hardcover collection" at Barnes and Noble. The revenue from people hooked on the series would make up for it.

I started reading the first book about 2 years ago but.. it was very hard for me to understand it so I just stopped.. I started again last year and I read all the books for 3 months. They blew my mind. Now I cant stop comparing all other books I read with the Malazan.

Just registered after being a fan for six or so years. May not comment much. This has been my go to place for most things Erikson related. I note just now the word "Erikson" is not automatically in the forum dictionary. This makes me sad and I shall now withdraw from the world and write a long treatise about it.

Oh hai. Been lurking here for several weeks. I'm re-reading the whole series. Well the first eight books since when i started the series Erikson was only up to toll of hounds, and after several years and countless other series i was at the library and saw he had finished the series and i wanted to re-familiarize myself with the fall of the Malazan empire. Before moving on to dust of dreams, I've been looking up every single obscure reference i can because I'm obsessive about these things. However I'm on part three of toll of the hounds and I've found a reference i can't seem to find clarification on anywhere.I'll address that in the appropriate part of the forum. Sorry i know i tend top run on a bit.

Hello All,
I am a relative newcomer to the Malazan Empire. I've been an avid reader of mostly fantasy since the age of 12 or 13 (I'm now mid forties). I'm a huge Wheel of Time fan and stumbled upon Dragonmount a few years ago. As I looked for suggestions from members there of other books to read, I kept coming across Steven Erikson's name. I picked up Gardens of the Moon used about 2 years ago. My reaction to it seemed to be the norm; a pretty tough struggle to get your feet under you as you get dropped into this world with little to no back story. But I made it all the way through and was very impressed by the ending. I ventured into Deadhouse Gates still unsure whether or not I liked this author enough to continue, but willing to go a second book. Somewhere around the halfway point, the hook was set. The very powerful ending settled it for me; this guy is good and I'll be reading the rest of this series. I just finished Memories of Ice and wow! Erikson is rapidly climbing my list! I am glad to have found this site so early in my trek through the series. I don't know many people (one in fact) that read fantasy so I'm glad to have somewhere to go for questions, discussions, character art and just general commiseration. Thanks!

Hello All,

I just recently discovered MBotF, I am currently reading House of Chains and I am already completely addicted to this series. I thought A Song of Fire and Ice was good, but it clearly pales in comparison to this series. I have lots of questions and ideas about details of the series and I would love to hear what other people have to say about it. I look forward to discussing it with you.
