Trade paperback copy of MoI

Hey all,

I'm still quite new to the Malazan world (just finished Deadhouse Gates), and am certainly enjoying reading discussion on those two books on these forums.

I figured this would be the best place to ask this question, even though I haven't read MoI yet. Does anyone know where I could find a trade paperback copy of MoI? I thought I had ordered one last week (since it said 'Trade Paper' in the description) but it was some small hardcover that was the size of a paperback...Paw Prints or something like that.

Were there just fewer copies of Memories of Ice published in the US? I can find all of the other books in trade paper. I've considered ordering the UK trade paper if I can't find the US one anywhere, they seem to look nicer anyway.

Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!

After looking for awhile, in the Tor edition I'm only seeing it in a mass market paperback, and a hardcover edition.

If I'm looking at the Steven Erikson website though, it does say it comes in Trade paperback...unfortunately I don't even see it on Ebay.

Yeah, it was published in 2005 by TOR as trade paper as far as I can tell, but apparently they didn't publish very many. I've found a few used copies, but the ones in decent shape are quite expensive.

I went ahead and picked up the mass market paper so I can get started soon (as soon as I finish Durham's The Other Lands -- check that out if you haven't already, it's the second book of his Acacia trilogy). I'm weird about books, though, and would still like to get my hands on a trade paper to match my others if possible.

Hmm, I don't know that TOR did a TPB - Bantam certainly did though - you might have better luck finding one of the UK or Canadian copies, though since they were the first edition I have no idea how easy it would be to get hold of one. The ISBN is 9780593046241 for the Bantam edition, if that helps at all.

I wasn't aware Tor ever did a TPB version of Memories of Ice until just now. I didn't know they had a hard cover version either though, I thought I read somewhere that they didn't come in Hardcover until House of Chains. Maybe I'm dreaming up things...quite possible haha.

Update: Found the ISBN for the trade paper on amazon.com (0765310031). I searched ebay by the ISBN# and found two copies, one 'acceptable' and one 'good.' Just ordered the 'good' one for $5. Guess I'll find out in a week or so if it's correct.

I think you might be getting confused between publishers. TOR are the american publishers, and released every book in hardback, starting in about 2004 for GotM I think.


Bantam are the publishers in the UK and Canada, and the first book they did in hardback was House of Chains - the previous ones had all been released in Trade Paperbacks first. Toll the Hounds was the first one Bantam released as just a hardback - before then, even since HoC, the hardbacks and TPBs had been released simultaneously :)

I order my books from here http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/ since I live in Canada.

Not sure if you can order from them .... but it does give a lot of info on differet versions of the book.

I end up ordering the Tor books because they're a few dollars cheaper. I read on the bus ... so the books do get a little mangled :)

Well that was a nice surprise!

MoI came in today...the trade paperback. And, it's in quite good condition. It's obvious that it has been read before, but probably only once, and whoever read it took pretty good care of it.

So, I'm glad to find out for sure that ToR actually did a trade paperback and there are still some out there. Now as soon as I finish The Other Lands I can start it (probably this weekend). And....WOW, that's one thick book...

I have a TOR MoI TPB - I wasn't aware they were scarce.

I ordered up the copy I've got in 2004 because the cover to the MMPB sucked so badly (the one with the ape-zombie-torch-wielders attacking a castle).
I finally have an avatar ... and it's better than yours.
