Im about 3/4 of the way through my 1st read of BH and there seems to be a usual convergance going on all centred on this Sepik ilse place. I understand Iccarium is being led by the nameless ones, mappo &co are following, the 14th need supplies but why is Karsa heading there aswell? as far as i can tell he just randomly picked his destination from one of samar dev's maps. It fits karsas character perfectly but is there any deeper reson why hes goin there?
I know its a minor thing but just thought of it and im curious
cheers

"Ignoring him, she stepped back out of the ellipse and began singing in the Woman's Language, which was, of course, unintelligible to Iskaral's ears. Just as the Man's Language-which Mongora called gibberish-was beyond her ability to understand. The reason for that, Iskaral Pust knew, was that the Man's Language was gibberish, designed specifically to confound women." - BH

You're asking for spoilers for something that iirc isn't quite what it seems you think it is. Suggest you RAFO.
- Abyss, FYI, btw.

Two reads of BH under my belt, and I still don't know why Karsa picked Sepik as his destination.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

because he can.
But correct me if i'm wrong but did Icarium at ANY point say he was going to Sepik? As far as i recall he and Mappo were headed north of 7C when the trohlbaral ambushed them, Veed stepped in, Veed and Iccy got on the Edur fleet and that was it.
And i vaguely think Tavore and the 14th were headed there for resupply.
- Abyss, whose recall re Sepik is septic.

Karsa was going to Sepik because he heard in Ugarat about a race of people being more or less enslaved by the human populace on Sepik and he decided he would go there and break the chains, as he is wont to do.
Iccy and Mappor were not heading to Sepik, but after Veed took Mappo's place, they were definitely heading in the direction of Sepik. Maybe Veed was going to show Iccy Sepik to set him upon the path to killing Rhulad. I vaguely remember when they get to the coast Veed being like "we need to find a way to cross" and iccy being like "there's no need - look an edur fleet"
The 14th intended to resupply at Sepik, the last Malaz territory they would find on their journey westward around the continent (and Sepik, being an island, was hopefully plague-free).

Karsa doesn't just pick Sepik as his destination. Samar Dev tells Karsa Motherfucking Orlong about the island-kingdom Sepik, and then adds:
(The Bonehunters, p. 261)
When Karsa hears one of the populations is subject to the other, he wants to go to Sepik. I think he wants to release them from their chains, since he is a 'chain-breaker'.
Quote
"I have heard, now and then, certain odd stories about Sepik. There are, it seems, two distinct populations, one the subject of the other.’ She shrugged at his blank look. ‘Such things interest me.’ Then frowned, as it became obvious that the distant expression on the giant’s tattooed visage was born of something other than indifference."
