Mark is a young Winnnipeg goalie whose life unfolds between hockey periods. He idolizes his older brother Jack, a tattoed Adonis with perfection in his blood, and together they idolize the Winnipeg Jets. After the team abandons Winnipeg, the disillusioned brothers leave Canada for England so that Mark can try out for the minor-league Cardiff Devils. In true Canadian fashion, they embark on a canoe trip from Edinburgh to Cardiff, portaging through London with their rented 17-footer.
As the journey progresses, Mark and Jack struggle to understand the loss of the Jets and their rage at those who let their team slip away. Awesome book. Originally published by Great Plains Fiction (my copy is nicer-looking than the picture above, which comes from Amazon.com), it may be difficult to acquire but it's definitely worth it.
