come on, it's a book aimed at teenagers and deals with high school. I'm sure it MUST include an archetypal "slutty hot popular girl" or two in there somewhere, so that Bella at least has a reason to be all emo and cry about "why can't I be as pretty as the ASHPG"

Ment, doesn't she sparkle too? Granted I haven't actually read any of the books, and not seen the second movie, so I have no idea what the business is here. But I would agree to being either cuddly cute or horribly evil as long as I don't sparkle.

Yes, precisely. She is (or at least thinks she is) the complete package. And then she sees sparkly people. And rages against her lack thereof. SHE WANTS TO BE COMPLETE! Thus Edward is but an unwitting tool in her cunning and heretofore unrevealed plot to become sparkly whatever the cost, whether it involve intensely painful super-powered sex, almost being eaten by the baby resulting from the aforementioned unprotected super sex, or having her dear ol' Ed nom his way into her gut to get at his kid.

Well the books are from Bella's perspective, and she thinks she is ugly. However, every single male in town wants to get with her and every single female in town wants to be her... you make your own conclusion.

Goddamit, I keep crossposting. D'rek, isn't that a fairly stereotypical attitude for insecure teenage girls? Self-deprecation certainly seemed common in my high school.
