Edit: post fail.
I had to put the foot down after the second one. They wanted me to throw up on everything.
Double edit: Oh look, you can see the scar from the first drinking competition on my neck.

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

It was ridiculously warm for this time of the year in Chicago. I came with a sweater and sweatshirt. Like 30 degrees warmer than normal. Beautiful weekend to visit.

Nuh-uh, bro. Read the Chronicles below.

It was a great weekend to visit - the gods smiled upon us for that.
And they also shit all over my girl's car. Four days after getting a ticket for a parking violation, her car wouldn't start when she was getting ready to come pick me up at the airport on Thursday afternoon - which I didn't find out until I landed and turned my phone back on. So I reassured her, asked her to call a tow truck company and spent 35 dollars to get a cab out to her place and waited for two hours for the idiot tow truck driver to come jump the car. She's really down about me having to wait and speculating that she left her trunk lid slightly open for a day or so. So we get the jump and we drive the car around for 15 minutes to make sure it has enough juice in the battery. Parking the car after losing the posh spot she had was a hassle, but we got it done. The rest of the evening was very nice.
On Friday, we took a train down to the Magical Mile and did the walkabout there, so the car went unused.
Saturday morning, Bent texts me. We get going around noon, figuring we'd manage the Art Institute in two hours and change, then go hang out with the Malazanites for a few hours. But we find out that the car won't start again. After some questioning, I strongly suspect that the battery is kaput and spent the next hour and more walking to the auto parts store, lugging a battery back to the car, loudly cussing out the idiot who designed the VW Jetta battery cradle because there is a stupid strip of metal holding the battery down that requires a socket wrench to be placed in an awkward position and moved with tiny, idiotically incremental movements, and then putting the new battery in. The time we spent doing this compressed our plans (museum, few hours with Malazanites, few hours with her friends, home) - so this crimped things everywhere.
Once we get that done, we drive down to Millennium Park to the Art Institute while the Malazanites are headed to the Field Museum. For whatever reasons, they decided to do like this super-quick, short'n'dirty tour of the museum and finished waaaaay before we finished our round. Anyways, they were at the hotel and left for the meet-up just as we got to the Big Metal Mirror Blob Thing in the Park that you see in the pictures above. So, we ended up doing a tour of that Palmer Hotel-Depaul area, before collecting the car and heading back up to Wrigleyville for the meet-up.
I didn't notice that we could actually park in front of the bar, so I ended up parking maybe eight or nine blocks away (parking in that area is RETARDEDLY difficult). The actual meet-up was fun - even though I had no idea what Mafia was and Manisha, my girl, sorta/kinda understood who you people were conceptually - but not really. Anyways, I got up from my meal to go move the car as its 1:40 meter parking was about to expire. Manisha decided to come with, to give me some company. I spot an open space in front of Goose Island (place where we were at) and we hustle over to the car to move it.
But the spot is taken. And there's nothing in the vicinity. So we cruise around and around. For what must have been 15, 20 minutes. No dice. We finally get a spot precisely one car behind where we were originally parked. At this point, I wanted to kick everyone who decides parking stuff for the city office of transportation in the teeth. Letting bars put cones in supposedly open-to-the-public spots is legit? Making dang near the entire Wrigleyville neighborhood permit parking only is the work of a sane person?
I sent a text to Bent expressing my frustration with this nonsense. He says everyone's speculating that I just bailed on the group. I think I pointed out that my jacket was still there and my dine and dash days are over - mostly. I tell this story to the group - and they all start laughing and clapping our exercise in futility. A-holes....
Anyways, it was a fun time hanging with people. Manisha managed to talk to Lauren a bunch about the Chicago school system (I think), so those two weren't completely bored out of their skulls. The Mafia game participants were definitely having fun. I think I entertained Jackie with some dog stories, Morgy and I talked some martial arts stuff and even managed to get the Strikeforce fights up on the TV above us. We had to leave around 9ish to meet with her fellow graduate students - who were also meeting that night around the same time.
The fries were terrible. But the company was good.
I'll definitely contact you all the next time I go back to Chicago.

Wow, I've never seen a meet up where people actually, well...errr....did things before.
Don't get your hopes up Old World team, there will be no sightseeing only painful, traumatic levels of drinking.
Oh and that is very definitely a Mrs Cougar, but still...

I know if I walked into the washroom and saw a man standing at the urinal with a camera in hand, I would slowly back out of the room hoping he didn't notice me.
