Hello Boys and Girls,

Currently I am reading The Crippled God, and am planning what to read next.
I'm an avid Fantasy Reader, and I think I have read almost all the great Fantasy Series that are out there, atleast the well known ones.
I was very pleasantly Surprised by how good the Series is, and am hoping to read much more from Erikson.

I have read the Malazan Book of the Fallen up to the 4th chapter of The Crippled God.
But i'm sure that in a few days (I only read during my work time, as between the times i'm doing something, i'm extremely bored) I will have finished that one aswell.

Hope to interact with you guys in a nice way, I have a lot of questions that the Malazan Wikia could not answer for me.

I had just about given up on reading a fantasy genre novel/series that moved beyond the cliches of what had already been done. Game of Thrones got me jump started back in to the fantasy realm again, but in forty plus years of reading scifi/fantasy I have never read a series as complex, engrossing, original, and enjoyable as the Malazan series. I read them all in about 6 months and am now starved for more. Hopefully, I can find some answers about some plots and characters here. It is great to see like minded people! I was impressed with all the pseudonyms everyone has adopted, but I thought I would stick with the mundane.

Hi,

New poster but I've been reading the forum on and off, mostly off I confess, for years. I remember the previous layout anyway.

So after reading the Crippled God I kind of lay off with the setting since I couldn't really get into Esslemont's stuff. (I read NoK and RotCG.) Recently, well about 5 months ago, I decided to re-read the whole series and actually ordered Esslemont's stuff that I missed since TCG. I suppose I finally signed up to look and search for references and what others said on various topic.
Well, I am done re-reading the main series now, minus HoC which I hated in the first place and really can't be bothered to read again. I don't care either about Karsa Orlong's youth and even less about the Tiste Edur and Letherii so I skipped that one.
I guess eventually I'll check out the Kharkanas books, too. However maybe only when the trilogy is finished. While I'm kind of curious about the beginning in the Tiste realms the dissolution and downfall described at in TCG by Sandalath Drukorlat doesn't really incite me with a hunger to read it right away.

Anyway, we'll see how Esslemont's stuff goes down this time. I'll likely mostly lurk instead of post, too.

I participated in the book-specific parts only for a solid year or so. Then I caught up to the present day (waiting for the next installment of the series to come out along with everyone else) and started posting in the non-Malazan specific parts.

one of the finest book out of Ian C Esslemont mostly a bit disappointing books
in fact i probably will be in for a re-read as it is a very good book

Hey all, newb here.

I have read the first 7 MBotF books as well as Night of Knives and for the most part enjoyed them all immensely. My main fandom is Brandon Sanderson's cosmere. You can find me under the same name at 17th Shard, the forum for discussing his books. There I met Briar King from here and I have occasionally discussed a bit of Malazan with him, so I guess you could say he recruited me.

Hi , glad I found you....I started reading GotM probably a decade ago...like so many others , I decided I was too dumb to continue after the 3rd book....I felt I couldn`t keep up.....Anyway, a friend`s son informed me that he`s reading `Forge of Darkness`, which I promptly started to devour after assurances that this book at least is more formulaic to the genre, meaning you don`t have to boast an eidetic memory, an IQ of 150+ etc. You get my meaning.

I`m 300pgs into FoD....I absolutely love it. Erikson is a great writer obviously and so I`ve decided to restart reading the Malazan Empire saga.....and I will do so tackling all 10 books consecutively....

So, I reckon I need all the encouragement I can get and any pointers, words of wisdom in general (!), would be much appreciated......

Hi everyone! I found this place while looking for visual representations of some of the non-Human (and seemingly non-Human) characters in the series. I'm currently about 1/3 of the way through Deadhouse Gates, and rank this series up with Zelazny's "Amber" and Gene Wolfe's "New Sun" series as some of the best genre fiction I've ever read, and I think I've read a lot.


I look forward to getting to know folks and joining in on the conversations!

Hello! Just joined. Have read all 10 MBoTF, FoD, and everything by ICE except Assail (should be soon though). Mainly joined to include my hair brained theories for the Kharkanas Trilogy (didn't see any of my ideas posted when reading through) as my friend who got me into the series has yet to read FoD and I have no one to talk to them about without ruining the story for him.

Do share with us sometime how you find reading FoD without much of the MBotF cannon behind it. SE claimed that you should be able to read the Kharkanas trilogy as a stand-alone, but I would think it does lose a lot of 'aha!' charm that way. Very interested to hear if it would work the other way around though, getting 'aha!' moments reading MBotF after the Kharkanas trilogy (or at least the first 1-2 books of it).

I am on book 5, Midnight Tides, right now. I just found this website the other day. It has been interesting and helpful reading different topics.

I had a very hard time with GotM. I had to read the ending on a website to see if it was even worth finishing. Now I am glad I have. While its not my favorite series, it does have some great parts. So far book Deadhouse Gates has been my favorite.

Greetings! I decided to join this community after finishing Midnight tides a few weeks ago.

I started reading this series about 14 months ago as I was about to embark on a vacation to the east coast. Waiting for my flight I realized I had not brought anything to read while away, and on a whim grabbed Gardens of the Moon on the airport book store...in retrospect it seems the man working the counter was likely a major malazan junkie, but at the time I just figured he was pushing a book he liked. Unfortunately I probably did not get to enjoy the vacation as much as I did the book. Not that GotM was fantastic, but more that I could see that the series had a lot of potential.

Some of you are wondering why I've just finished book 5 14 months later? I take my time, I read other books and series in between. After book two I realized I needed to savor this series, make it sort of a years long love affair if I could, so I restrain myself nicely. I'm also a bit of a writer (hack) and by reading several different authors I find inspiration and ideas about writing styles, etc.

I do have one question...can someone point me to the read order thread? I've just downloaded Night of Knives on my Kindle but haven't started it yet, and wanted ot make sure I have the right idea in mind for a good read order. :-)

Reading Order threads mottle the board like maggots on a corpse, so you're in luck!

Just find a post by D'rek, follow that order, and don't argue unless you want your face replaced with your butt and vice versa.
