Hi,

Read LOTR years ago and was reintroduced to the Fantasy genre by A Song of Ice and Fire. Read all of that in a few months and followed up by reading Joe Abercrombie's collection. Was then left looking for some gritty adult fantasy to build on what I'd read so far. Time and again I had been told of Steven Erikson by a friend at work and I have looked at Gardens of the Moon several times but didn't start to read it. However, yesterday I was surfing around looking for something to read and I again ended up looking at Gardens of the Moon. Despite many reviews saying it was hard to follow, complex etc I decided to give it a go. Have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed it so far. Haven't found it that confusing. Yes, there are a lot of characters and concepts but doesn't most epic fantasy i.e Tolkien !

As I always like to talk about things I'm reading I therefore decided to join what seems to be be No 1 Malazan forum. I look forward to asking a few questions in the months (and years !) ahead.

Cheers,

Paul.

Are you the one that was at the Naperville reading?

Regardless, hello.

Hi There,

I was introduced a few years ago in the malazan world thanks to an old friend of mine.
I usually read a ton of books from every single genre, btw fantasy still remains my favorite one indeed i hope to start as soon as possible the novels written by Esslemont,

see u in the forum,

Very nice! Absolutely love the series. I am on the third reading and just starting "Midnight Tides". His work is amazing. Love the dialogue, especially Iskaral Pust. It would be entertaining to talk like that for awhile. Also the obvious understanding of comradeship of people in tight situations. Reminds me of Steven Pressfield in that respect. Looking forward to starting his new series(Ericson's) as soon as I finish rereading this one. Constantly picking up nuances I missed or forgot about the last time. Cheers to all,and I look forward to conversing with all in the future.

Hello!
I am a longtime Malazan fan but I am new to the forum. I got into the Malazan series probably about about 7 or 8 years ago through a friend of mine and I have been hooked ever since. This is by far my favourite fantasy series ever. I have re read them several times and I just keep going back for more. I look forward to talking and discussing with everyone and having lots of interesting conversations in future!

Hi , I got here by the long road of someone giving 'The Reapers Gale' on realising it was the 7th book of the MBotF I promptly secured GotM, had to read it twice, but have since acquired all ten books, unfornately some criminal has uplifted 'the Crippled God'. I confess have not read all in the series, but I am a big fan.

Your QR code is disappointing.

EDIT: You can put loads of shit in these things now! Skype calls and app downloads...couldn't last time I looked. That's cool. Who even uses QR codes though? I've never actually seen anyone scan one before...

I was expecting something exciting but it was only your email address!

How about QR codes within QR codes, so that you have to have several people with QR scanners to read the final message?

Hi there,

I'm new here, obviously. I've recently finished Reaper's Gale and will begin reading Toll the Hounds pretty soon I expect. Still three books to go, but it feels like the end is coming closer (not in terms of plot, but purely in terms of books still to go)! Which is a weird thing, since having more than three thousand pages still to go would be a shocking amount for "normal people".

Anyway, I think Deadhouse Gates is still my favorite of the books, either that or Memories of Ice. House of Chains might be my least favorite. However, I think that if I were to reread the books my preferences could change, they're all good in their own way.

Don't forget the ICE books. Now (before TTH) would be a perfect time to read the first two.

My best friend, who introduced me to the Malazan books, doesn't have a high opinion of those books. That doesn't mean I'll feel the same, so I can probably still borrow them from him. But I think I'd prefer to finish Erikson's books first.

Hello all. I've been reading the Malazan Books for about 1 year now. I should finish The Bonehunters today on my metro ride home. I'm a lawyer and I love fantasy novels. I started off with Dragonlance in the 5th grade and have not stopped with the genre since.

Man I would never want to be in a public place when finishing a Malazan novel.
