Matriarch.......find a start point or person that interests you...then by the time you have tracked sons/daughters/predecessors it starts to hang together......The War of the Roses is a big bag of fun in those respects......Top Tip Dont read anything without a UK map beside you and get used to the scale of this tiny island.

Yeah... British history is a bit like the history of the Malazan Empire. No idea who was there first or what happened in the meantime.... Thanks for the input.

That is so clever, and utter nonsense at the same time! Yay Britain!
Thanks for the web-site link. I added it to my favorites.
And as for Queen... yeah, not so much.

Hello everybloody(Benny Hill reference for all the recent Anglophiles here). I was a history major in college many a moon ago. I kinda remember a paper I wrote in high school about Charles I, if I remember correctly, he was the only English king ever beheaded. I think it had something to do with all the fighting he was doing with parliament about taxes.
Just introducing myself. I remember buying GotM several years back and I just could not get into it. I am an avid reader and have not put down many books without finishing them ever. So confusing and boring to begin with. The confusing part I probably could have dealt with, but boring not so much. I came back because of a certain RJ site and I think you know the one. So I tried again and after plodding along for the first 150 or 200 pages I got into it. The thing is, only after the first re-read can you even begin to understand the sheer complexity of this series. No other series I can think of has the scope of this one.
So from now on I will probably be a lurker here. Why, I only post while drunk and I've had a few. But hope to continue getting all the inside info and insights from y'all( did that just identify me as a Texan?)
By the way, I chose my name because I think it is the best joke punchline ever. Granted, it takes several books before it makes sense, so you can't ever really use it as a real joke, but in this site it should be fine.

Well I've just found out about the MBotF series in the past month or so. Having seen GotM in my local Chapters with its UK cover not that boring US one. I Picked it up and after strugglely through the first bit, eventually became hooked. SO far I've finished it and DhG and am over half way through Memories of Ice

Hi all!
I've been lurking on these forums for a while now but have never actually posted anything before. I'm a huge Malazan fan and am currently a couple of hundred pages through Toll the Hounds. I'm finally posting something today because I'm going to Steven Erikson's booksigning in Milton Keynes today and can barely contain my excitement!!!!
