So, I know there are some real jewels, but I didn't want to take the time to write down where they were in here during my first read. I earmarked one page with the one that made me laugh out loud the hardest:

"And then there the wonderful beasts in those distant lands. Dragonflies big enough to ride - imagine whizzing through the clouds, looking down on everything! Seeing how beautiful it all was, and then dropping hundreds of bombs on it." Sergeant Sunrise, DoD page 680.

Give me your epic DoD quotes, Malaz!

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

the whole exchange between Tarr and Pores after Tarr eats a whole wad of Rylig is pretty funny. my fav line exchange is

Quote

Pores studied the man's now glittering eyesm the sudden cascade of jumpy twiches on his face. 'You sure you're supposed to chew the whole wad, Corporal'?

'You m-may have a p-p-p-point theh-theh-there.'

'Spit it ow-ow-out, Corporal, before your head explodes.'

'Ccccandoat, Mas-Mas-mmmmmfuckface. Spenspenspensive-'

Off the top of my head:

Heboric in the prologue.

Quote

Behold, my friends, I am justice.

And the bit where Draconus comes back, and the final line is: Draconus. Just like Kallor in TTH. Awesome. That whole scene reeks of awesome, in fact.

So Heboric is Batman now?
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Well, he's speaking for the Abyss, so apparently Abyss is Batman. Watch out for signals in the sky, Apt!

He could be Catman. Catman's pretty awesome nowadays.

I guess then that, by his own word, Wolverine beats Abyss?

Back on topic... :)

The one in my sig, where Hedge is talking to Stormy about having sex with the two fatties Rumjugs and Sweetlard:

Hedge said:

'Get one over ya and one under ya and it's all pillows.'

Gall and his two young tear runners, this dialogue is pure gold.

"Glad to hear it. So, should they shit on the flag of peace what will you and Ganap here do?"

"We will offer our bodies between you and their weapons, Warleader, and fight until you can win clear."

"Failing to save my life, what then?"

"We kill their commander."

"Arrows?"

"Knives."

"Good," said Gall, well pleased.

Heres another one from sunrise

Quote

'Aye.' It's a good word, i think. More a whole attitude than a word, really. With lots of meaning in it, too. A bit of 'yes' and a bit of 'well, fuck' and maybe some 'we're all in this together'. So, a word to sum up the Malazans...'

pg 553

well put sir, well put.

Ublala: "Are you a God?"
Draconus: "More or less Toblakai, does that frighten you?"
Ublala Pung shook his head: "I've met Gods before, they collect chickens."

absolutely friggin hilarious.

gawd not really a quote, but when torrent backhanded olar ethil. what a fucking release! made me feel all warm inside, kind of like that part at the beginning where tavore gives a bit of her plans. to paraphrase: "if a god were to show its face in that tent at that moment, six fists would vie for it."

When Gall is thinking about the Bolkando armies, and how they think they can beat the Burned Tears, and he thinks

And you haven't met the Bonehunters yet...

I was all "COME ON!!!!" That might not be the exact quote but it was something like that... :p

You Scream
We all Scream

I loved the timeline discussion between Kindly and Skanarow.

"'I mean his timeline makes sense-'
'Excuse me, his what?'
'Well, when he did what and where he did it. A proper course of events but I figure that just means he's worked it out to sound plausible'" DoD UK HC, p 803

But the most awesome line has to be Krughava's

"Attend to your brigade, conquestor - it is tactically imperative that we obliterate your presence here prior to invading your kingdom.' DoD UK HC p196

Other bits i loved are the heavies and the nefarias bredd discussions, i especially liked the one footprint and the fact that he had no thumbs.

pg 778. I know its been mentioned, but i thought i'd put it up anyway.

"took a fall there High Mage.' said Fiddler

"A fall?"

"Aye, i'm thinking you was struck with a thought."

The answer is always 'Wolverine'.

Seconded!!!!

Couple that stood out...

HAIL THE MARINES! - you know the part. That scene made me cheer.

This bit was stunning in its simplicity...
"Mother Dark, hasn't she suffered enough?"
"Yes."
...the creator of the universe heard you a minute ago when you called her a bitch, Withal.

This made me laugh:
"What next, the Jaghut?"
"...still days away." Quick Ben and Bottle said at once.

There are more that i can't recall offhand. A bunch involving Tehol at the beginning, Bugg too, almost everything QB says, some of Brys' lines are priceless especially with Ceda Arancict.

- Abyss, chatty.

Just a few from the end:

Gesler and Stormy: "They don't expect to survive this battle." "Aye, bad attitude." "So fix it."

"I am Icarium. And I bring far worse."

Roach: The miserable thing snarled up at him. It had never learned how to smile.

The whole 'Painting of the Lether Throneroom, Tehol edition' segment. Brilliance.
