any theories why Baudins "bronze " skin didnt protect him from fire, while it does protect Gesler and co.? I am asking here because I dont want to spoil people in DHG and I think you only find out how gesler and company are fireproof, but not explosion proof, until BH...

2 points:

1. My memory is sketchy but wasn't there something about Baudin not getting as big a dose of dragon spray paint as the others?

2. There is being a near ascendant tough guy, and then there dousing yourself in a flammable substance, lighting yourself on fire and doing the funky chicken.

You saw in Y'ghatan that enough enough heat and a big explosion killed Truth.

Being ascended or near ascended does not make you unbeatable.

Ascendancy ain't a fire blanket. I mean, if an Elder God can get fried by a little bit o' sorcery in the mortal realm, a semi-Ascendant (if that) ain't gonna be able to stand being lit on fire. Simple as that.

Yeah I realize this, thats why I said I knew it didnt make you explosion proof, and I am not really talking about ascendancy, but the bronze effect of that warren(which warrebn was it do you suppose?)

I thought Gesler said in BH that he knew the fire outside in Y ghatan would not faze him... or at least I think he thinks this to himself in the tunnels.

We're talking about Ascendancy in the sense of vitality towards the elements that those beings have, said vitality being gifted to Gesler and Stormy by being annealed in Kurald Thyrlann. Dragon spray paint, as Apt so aptly puts it. Still, there are limits to protection, and there are levels of protection.

I don't think ascendancy really has much to do with it, let's just focus on the effects of passage through KT. Felisin said that Baudin thought he'd be okay. Plus, even after all that scorching-ness, Baudin was still alive, albeit charred. I think, like Truth, it was just too much fire and it surpassed the immunities he got from KT. Part of the idea of him having a lesser dosage than the marines is that he (and Kulp) went overboard during the KT passage, so the marines got a bigger dose by staying on the ship and spending more time in the effects of KT.

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.
