just noticed something during a reread of moi. At the end of the book, in the list of characters/terms drek's listing says (sometimes mistress of disease see poliel). At first i thought sweet this makes BH make more sense but as i ran through it in my head i realized that it would make the book make less sense so wtf?
Has anyone selse noticed this? Has it been discussed?
I'm thinking maybe Drek and Poliel are in opposition to each other, competing for the position but i dunno
Thoughts?

I noticed it as well not too long ago, but really didn't pay any heed to it. It is clear they are not the same God.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I think this may be a facet of worship that Erikson hasn't given so much attention in the series. Like in our own ancient cultures, it is possible that over time humans get their deities confused and legends, myths and religious rituals mix and one god becomes another, mothers become sisters, sister becomes the wives of their fathers in the pantheon, etc.
That doesn't mean that D'rek and Poleil are the same, just that some cultures and random cults have lost their original concepts of these deities.

Or, much more simply, there was originally no distinction back in GotM and the disparity was carried over in the glossary until MoI, so its just a GotMism. The common sections of the glossaries for the early editions of the books of DG and MoI are mostly just copies of the GotM, and there's other errors/discrepencies in them (more than 11 free cities, no Mockra warren, etc). As it is, D'rek really gets bum-raped with inconsistancies in the first few books, from gender to being called D'riss several times and more...
