Just posted it on the blog!
As you can see, it's a direct pick-up from Steve Stone's UK cover, but with a different color scheme. . .

Oh I see. I think I like the brightening around the edges, Stone always has his fade to black in all directions from the center whereas I like a nice big vivid eye-catching scene. Thanks Pat!

I actually prefer this. Slightly better colour combination...

I do like this one better. Usually the UK art is tops but the coloring here is nice.

Now this actually makes me angry.
Call me obsessive, but I would like my epic fantasy series' covers to be a cohesive unit, all with the same art style. I'm also one of the few that has always thought the US covers are leagues better than the UK ones. Now this happens and not only is the cohesive art-unit gone, but I will have to buy the crappy UK cover re-do.
At least Wheel of Time keeps with the same-artstyle tradition - even if those covers are puke-inducing.

I'm with Tarcanus. Screwing with the cover design for the TtH MMPB was obnoxious enough, and now this. I actually like this art, but the overall effort gets a big thumbs down from me on grounds of inconsistency. If Tor thinks that switching to the Bantam design will make the series more bankable, I've got a thought: if you really want to make more money on the series, how about not releasing the book half a year after everyone else?
On the plus side, I guess my Bantam MMPBs of NoK and RotCG won't look as out of place now...

"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

I'm with the other two I like the art, but I too like things to be uniform when it comes to book series.

I prefer the UK cover to this new one, it has a more ominous feel to it i reckon.
In a world gone mad, we will not spank the monkey, but the monkey will spank us.

I have to say, Not bad! I actually like it better then the UK version. But, as someone who was pretty happy with most of recent US covers (I mean RG and TtH where just awesome) I agree with the inconsistency issue. I mean, changing the art style as of book 9 really doesn't seem like a good idea to me, but I guess that Tor for ya.

How do you reconcile this
with this?
I have mostly UK covers for everything, but for the blank white ARG of MoI and the US edition of Hoc (the sole US version I liked better). I'll be picking up the UK version of this, as waiting six months for it would put me too far into the forum discussion hole than tolerable.
However, I salute the decision of Bantam to dump the earlier cover style - the paintings themselves weren't bad; they just didn't work well for the covers or in depicting something eye-catching from the series.

I reconcile that because WoT != MBotF. I love the Malazan US covers 10x more than the UK ones. All of the WoT covers are ridiculous. I was just trying to give a comparison of how I enjoy cover cohesivity(new word, woo!).
