Ha!

In your scoring system, a good QB will average 3 TD's and 300 yards. That is 30 pts. A mediocre one will get you 1td and 150 yards, or 12 pts.
A great running back will average 2 TD's and ~120 yards, which is 24 pts. A mediocre running back will average 1TD and 100 yards, which is 16pts.

It is much easier for a QB to rack up TD's than any other player on the field. In this type of league, the QB is your money maker.

And yet, a person who goes QB round one will need to make up a massive number of points by not going RB, RB and having two SOLID contributor's every week, as opposed to platooned running backs.

Also, just FYI, a quarterback who averages that Obdi is having a 48 touchdowns and ~5000 passing yards. It's happened, but is EXTREMELY RARE, like in it's happened 3 times. Ever.

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

And the RB is averaging 32 TD's and ~2000 Rushing yards.

It has happened, but is extremely rare. I rounded up.

Also, why are you guys arguing that 1QB is not equal to 2RB's?

You need to argue that 1QB and 1RB is not equal to 2RB's, but that means you are arguing my side. The best couple QB's in the league are going to be better than all the RB's. Why you guys are trying to prove your argument by using 2 players vs 1 I don't know.

And your argument about platooned running backs versus guaranteed starters at quarterback every week available in the 2nd and 3rd round?

And your rebuttal about 1 great QB and 1 good RB and 1 mediocre RB vs 1 mediocre QB and 1 great RB and one good RB?

NFL.com is another 6 pts per QB touchdown league. I won my league once, and was in the playoffs the other two years without having drafted a quarterback in the first 4 rounds. I feel a value pick can score nearly as much as the highest QB point total (outside of a record year, you can't prepare for those), as opposed to a value pick RB (who are all now mostly platooned) compared to a top 5 RB.

Edit: Done debating topic, I am divulging my draft strategy.

In this type of scoring system, a QB will be the top scorer for the year, by quite a bit.

I have been in the playoffs 2/4 years I played, the years I wasn't I was playing in 3 leagues at once, which is a big no-no for me. In any system where a passing TD is weighted the same as a rushing/recieving TD, QBs absolutely dominate.

Edit: Be done then! Draft the best Defenses over Tight Ends!

They will score the most. I agree. However, the difference between the highest scoring QB and the 5th highest scoring QB is quite a bit different than the 1st and 5th highest scoring RB. I'll agree to disagree.

But the difference between the #1QB and the #10QB is a bigger difference between the #1RB and the #10RB.

I win.

I disagree. #10 RB is being platooned most likely. Veng, get on here and pick so Obdi can make fun of someone else's good selection.

Wow, you guys put a lot more thought into this than I do. The fantasy sites told me AP was the best bet for a #1 pick, so I picked him. I thought about picking Manning, but I honestly don't know if he's gonna be that great this year. That's as far as my strategy went. You can tell I'm pretty hardcore.

This is my first time ever playing fantasy football, and I wasn't exactly clamoring to join (if Tehol didn't convince me, I wouldn't have). Whatever happens, happens - it's no skin off my nose. ;)

Fine. I won't really be getting that into this once teams are set, anyway. Too much to do this semester.

For the first selection in the 2009 NFL Fantasy Draft, Slum picks Adrian Peterson.

Let the good times roll. ;)

Woot the draft has started and "all day Peterson" went first as expected. Congrats Slum and btw it isnt really that much work to be involved in these things. Please dont just leave your team after weak 1.

And btw this is my first time in Fantasy also. I used to play some manager games many years ago and hope this isnt to different. :p

I'm away for a day or so, so if my pick comes before tomorrow night, I nominate Toby to pick for me ;)

He helped me lots last season and with no real back up to speak of and a decent o line this year he should be able to put up decent numbers. My other choice was to take a QB but with this high of a pick I wasn't going to do that. Last year I had the number one spot and took LT and then was stuck with him for the entire season. This way I know exactly what I'm getting. Plus if Cutler is actually able to do anything at all then look out. ;)

can the discussions about the draft be moved to another thread or back to the other one? so we dont have to read through all the discussions about the picks to see who people are picking? we have had 2 picks and we are 2 pages in. silly imo
