Oponn

Recently re-read GOTM, and am still confused about what Oponn seeks to achieve. Essentially Oponn does two things in the book.
1) Save Paran's life a few times and give him the magic sword Chance.
2) Save Crokus's life a few times and give him a magic Coin.
So, why these two and to what possible ends ? Paran bought Chance a couple years before GOTM events, so it seems Oponn sensed some potential in him. I can buy this especially since future books have shown that the whole Paran family have led some pretty remarkable lives. But does Oponn want of him ? Neither he nor Crokus are ever asked to do anything. Does Oponn forsee Paran's importance against Raest or even further in the future him becoming MOD. What exactly was the purpose behind reorganizing all his memories when bringing him back from Hood's Gate.
2) Crokus. Everyone gets all worked up over who the Coin Bearer is, and either want to kill him or protect him, but Crokus doesn't really do much. (No-one seems to have any trouble finding him either.) Aside from knowing a lot of well-connected people, why Crokus ? Do we know anything about his parents yet? The only thing Crokus really does is stop Vorcan from killing Baruk.
3) Oponn says "we delight in uncertainty." So if the whole purpose was just to get people worked up about their plans - how exactly does this benefit them ? In the end Paran gives the sword to the Rope and Crokus throws away the coin. Some thanks for saving their lives. Was this just a poorly executed scheme ? I'd be interested in any theories on plans, powers , warrens etc. of Oponn. Sorry if this was all covered in another thread.

The important point to all of the above isn't the answers, rather, it's that Oponn's plan was foiled by Paran himself, as well as the involvement of Rake, Cotillion and other forces. So whatever Oponn had planned, all you really have to draw from it is that it didn't turn out the way they wanted, quite the opposite it ended with their pawn, Paran, breaking free of their influence, and their tool, Chance, in an enemy's hands.

There's an element of RAFO to Crokus because as is obvious from the end of GotM his story is continued in later books.
In terms of what he accomplishes however, he stops Vorcan, yes, but he also stops Lorn from killing Kruppe and co, and he's a factor in Sorry's recovery from possession.
And again, he tosses the coin and breaks free from Oponn, so whatever they wanted may not have come to pass.

Oponn does to an extent just enjoy throwing chaos/chance into the mix to screw with other people/ascendent/god's plans. The point i took from the above was that they themselves can have their schemes turned on them bu the humans they try to use as tools.

Agree with Abyss above.
Furthering the Coin-Bearer bit - basically, being a tool of Oponn not only gives the mortal tool incredibly good luck for themselves (ie: Paran deflecting 5 Rhivi javelins, Crokus dodging crossbow bolts) but also lets them pull off really lucky moves and influence those around them, both with good and bad luck. The other Ascendants and important people wanted the Coin-Bearer eliminated because as long as he is around they might be killed by the weirdest coincidences, or their own plans might get foiled by them.

You gotta keep an oponn mind about these things.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Cheers! I suppose in the grand scheme of things, the nitty-gritty of what Oponn wanted doesnt matter so much?

There's an element of RAFO/reRAFO to that question, but for the purposes of GotM specifically i think you got it.
