Don't know if this is covered elsewhere by anyone else but i really want to know what happened to Republic of Theives. Does anyone know what's going on? I need to know the further adventures of Locke and Jean!

Lynch has set no time-table for the release of Republic of Thieves, Book 3 in the Gentlemen Bastards series. It is, however, expected to come out within the next couple of years. Wert could probably detail this better.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

That is really distressing. I don't want to wait a couple of years. I need more immediate satisfaction. I suppose I could reread the first two... again...

Find one of the threads on here about other awesome books. Lynch is good, but others are just as good, better, or almost as good.

Definitely read the first two again! I re-read Lies of Locke Lamora a few months ago, and absolutely loved it. Only then did I realise how good it was :(

Lynch recently posted that his grandfather recently passed away after a very long period of illness. This is one of the 'personal issues' he's been dealing with which has taken time away from the book.

It was reported some time ago that 'a very rough draft' of the book was in existence but Scott wanted to really go to town and make it outstanding (Book 3 apparently marks a major sea-change in how the story unfolds from this point onwards). Combined with the personal issues and a recent bout of illness, this means that RoT has taken a lot more work than the first two books.

Gollancz are still planning to release the book in summer 2010, but a final draft has not been submitted. I'll let you know once I hear otherwise from them :(

Well I suppose that's acceptable. At least we can be assured it will be as awesome as he can make it.
Thanks Wert.

Good to know this is acceptable to you, god forbid an author delay your personal gratification.

That's a little antagonistic, don't you think wolf? You can't deny there are some reasons that are unacceptable when it comes to delays when the author is contractually obliged to meet deadlines. He's not a bloodthirsty fan thirsting for blood because Lynch is being lazy, his goddamn grandfather died, and Ullem deems that reasonable to there being a delay. Sure he'll be disappointed, but I doubt he feels the way you're implying he does. Get down off your high horse, wolf, like you haven't been annoyed or disappointed when a deadline has been pushed back.

Either joking or not, the way he phrased it bugged me. Stating because someones grandfather died is merely an "acceptable" reason for a book to be delayed is somewhat cold.

It doesn't help that 30 seconds of googling gave me the answer to why the book was delayed.

You, are, however, correct, it was antagonistic. It's a small pet peeve of mine whenever I see someone wanting someone to give them an answer for something they could easily find on their own.

Heh, I was thinking the same thing.

Luckily the high horse is big, and can fit 2 people fairly easily.

I would also interject the never ending debate about GRRM and ASOIAF, has made me weary of people demanding books from authors.

Just because you bought a book in the series does not mean that the author now owes you the rest of the books within a tight one year schedule.

Exactly. Since Brent Weeks we now know they they need to be delivered every month. Writing books is easy, and even the simplest of minds can come up with complex fantasy stories that will not horrify Apt.

I also doesn't help that the causes delays of Lynch, GRRM, and Rothfuss have been discussed ad nasuem, and are readily available to anyone who spends a couple minutes searching and reading.

Why does no one care PN Elrod hasn't released a new vampire files book in 4 years?
Because she's no where near as popular.

PN Elrod who?

Is this actually good books?

Are these sexy, miss understood vampires who like fashion but don't do well in the sun without shades vampires? Or nasty, undead, half rotten predators of the night spending their days digesting blood and their nights stalking virgins and slaughtering children for sport?

It's a good vampire, with powers similar to Dracula, in 1930's prohibition Chicago.

I quite enjoy them.

They aren't as good as Dresden Files, but still quite enjoyable, the first ones are quite short, though.

Wow. I don't know what to say. First, don't paint me as a jerk due to my intense love of good fantasy. Second, of course any author can take as much time as he/she feels is necessary between books, regardless of reason. Perhaps I was too glib to suggest the death of a family member was merely "acceptable". I don't take myself that seriously, you shouldn't either. And lastly, what's it to you if my method of research is to ask someone rather than google? I thought that was what forums like this were for...

Alright, let's not let start an argument over this, gents. Be civil, or I'll close the thread.

I was a bit dissapointed in RED SKIES. It was a decent read in terms of the continuing adventuares of some characters i had liked in LIES, but the overall plot seemed to wander. I'm hoping Bk 3 is closer to LIES. Lynch did lay down some interesting groundwork for his world and the series could ultimately turn out awesome.

In any event, RED ended with sufficient closure that i'm not dying to know what happens next. He'll get to it when he gets to it.

- Abyss, yaaarrr.
