It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

No need to spoiler that, I don't think - this is the HoC forum, and it's not particularly spoilerific anyway. Perhaps the magic forces unleashed between the T'lan Imass and the Forkrul Assail/Jaghut in the Laederon Wars was sufficient enough in magnitude to create otataral.

ATTENTION: Incredulous Kruppe Has Something to Bray!

Kruppe wonders mightily where all this Otataral that's being mined is going, since in the three-and-one-half books he has read thus far, the only items made out of it have been two swords and one knife. The Empress Laseen must have quite a bit squirreled away in her mattress.

I think it is just not used very much. Sort of like nuclear weapons, it's a tool you don't want to wield too freely.

If the Gods and mages of the world suddenly found themselves in an evironment where everyone was using ottataral they might become pretty pissed.

While a mage or young god can't affect the wielder of ottataral, that doesn't mean they can't throw a meteor through their enemies head, create a flood, a plague, earthquake, etc. to take care of the pesky humans.

This is why Kruppe wonders why they bother mining it on a large scale to begin with. It would make more sense just to leave most of it in the ground under heavy guard.

Of course, Imperial prisoners need something to keep them busy and on the brink of death, and mining otateral is as good as anything else, Kruppe supposes.

It's probably a delicacy. The aristocracy sprinkle it on their tofu.

Kruppe, I think you're gonna pee your voluminous pants when you reach The Bonehunters.

"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Kruppe is without doubt that you are correct, good Salt-Man. Not that Kruppe hasn't ignobly soiled his trousers several times already over the doings in The Malazan Book of the Fallen.

Kruppe is on the brink of wrapping up House of Chains and moving on to Midnight Tides - aptly titled in light of Kruppe's nocturnal incontinence.

Well, if i remember correctly, Blood Oil is a mixture of the "Dust" they scrape off their mountains and the sap from their Blood oak trees. Toblakai talks about it with a Jaghut i think about half way through the book (Correct me if i'm wrong). And since this thread is so far along, i'm probably just repeating a several others at this point and i'm just behind the ball on this one.
